Interesting course, staff not so friendly
I've play here a few time but have noticed an unfriendly vibe when using a GN hot time. Maybe understandable but if they don't like it don't participate.
I'm not sure if I would go there again too many great courses on the No.Shore.
Good Course
Golf course was in great shape, greens were in great condition. You can't really go with driver off the tee that much because of the hole layouts. Very annoying when a couple of the holes are placed alongside a busy street. And the biggest thing that annoyed me was the fact that they didn't let me take a cart. First course that I have encountered where you have to be 21 to ride (I'm 20), as everywhere else I've played is 18. I checked their website and their rule is nowhere to be seen. Very disappointing.
Flawed but still good value
Pros: Good value, pretty good pace of play, very nice staff.
Cons: Leave your driver in the car. Total target golf on every single hole. Water everywhere. Also, the Canadian Geese run the course; clearly the staff has virtually given up on controlling them and their...gifts. Expect to be hissed at a half-dozen times and perhaps to be putting through these gifts on a couple greens.
Good golf now value
Course in great condition despite the heat.
At Golfnow hot deal price of $18, a great value.
Busting a drive off every tee is not recommend on this track. Several holes require fairway wood or long iron to put your ball into good scoring position.
Fun course to play when your game is on.
Played in 3 hours, then replayed in 2-1/2.
Challenges you
Course forces you to be comfortable with all of your clubs in your bag. Water comes into play with the driver very often unless you are a massive hitter. The starter however seemed to be more interested in driving around after his friend than actually keeping the pace of play appropriate at the beginning of the round. Nice course. I'd go back if invited but probably wouldn't go out of my way to play it again.
Excellent Layout
The course is tricky. Many shots are blind so you have to use your imagination. Better off being safe then adventurous. Very nice layout and tricky greens.
Two Very Different Nines
I was surprised at how different the front and back nines were. The front was a fairly typical layout while the back was a short layout that relied on water and target landing areas to add challenge. As a first time golfer I much preferred the front finding the back nine gimmicky.... Also played very slow due to the bunching of groups in short holes.
Overall a well run course with nice carts and well manicured.
A lot of water and there are some lay up holes
98° day only saw two water containers on the whole course Lotta rain the night before greens played pretty slow
The pace of play
We started 12:09, we showed up earlier , so that we'd like to start earlier, because there were nobody in front us, but starters were not there(There were starters, but they were not "Noon "duty. This was our 1st experience)
During we played, rangers came to several times, because of our slow pace, but,we finished at 4:20pm. Is it slow???
Rangers said that we played 1&1/2 holes behind, but there were nobody in front us, because there were no starter at Noon!!
Good course
Highly recommend. Good course and fun to play.
Gloomy Tuesday
We play every Tuesday & Thursday but one of the members in the group plays on the weekend. He said to me after weekend play that he played at the Arboretum and it was outstanding. I hadn't played there in 10 years. I told him it was an unfair course with narrow fairways and too much water. I went back last year and realized what a wonderful course it was. I was so bad 10 years ago that par king was tough. Now that my game is much better I can appreciate all that The Arboretum has to offer. It's a wonderful course.
Arboretum Buffalo Grove
Arboretum Buffalo Grove. Course was ok we had carts but cart paths only which made it troublesome , and no sand in sand traps?? Dirt? Don't know why it's a nice course . Get some sand !!!
Nice Course
Wife and I played this course and enjoyed ourselves a lot. The course was in such great shape. The only rub is that there are no bathrooms on the course.
Very challenging
The round was on the first nice 80* Sunday morning of the year and it was packed... But none of the tee boxes ever got backed up. Very surprising. The layout is VERY difficult. I had played 20 rounds before this season averaging in the upper 80's and this course through me for such a loop I was lucky to manage a 99. I'll definitely be back for the challenge again this year and look forward to it. I was a I little disappointed with drink selections but hopefully that increases as the year progresses. I'm not a huge beer drinker so I prefer a mikes hard lemonade or something of the sorts and they had about 8 varieties of beer and that's it. Hot dogs were stone cold at high noon for lunch and took about 5mins go someone to show up just to serve us at the bar. But golf was great!
Great lay out
Aboretum is a very challenging but fair golf course. The natural design of the course is visually very appealing and its condition, even in February, was nice. The staff(especially the starter) are excellent. I enjoyed playing this course and I will play this course again.
Good fall golf
Course was great but greens were rough and slow.Could use more on course restrooms.
excellent golf course
checked in as a single but teamed up with one nice couple. Fall season but still no leaves on fairway.
Well maintained course..
Beautiful!
Sunday, November 1 (time change day) was perfect for golf: mid-60's and clear skies with little wind. The course was well manicured, no leaves on fairways or on greens. The greens had been aerated, but my only other round at Arboretum this season featured lightning fast greens.
Poor design, no staff.
Let me start with the course itself. Tees, and fairways were in fine shape but the greens were pretty rough. Spike marks everywhere and it appears it not proper etiquette to fix your ball mark on this course. I mean every hole has a few half dollar sized gashes all over the greens from people who didn't even attempt to fix there mark. Makes for some pretty bumpy putts.
Then there's the layout. Unless your Bubba Watson or you only drive the ball 200 at best, just leave your driver at home. Split fairways on 10/14 driving holes makes for long-mid iron off the tee so your not in hazard or rough. And on a few I think the fairway was split not due to hazard or design but to just make course maintenance easier as they don't have to cut the grass.
And my last gripe, which really eats at me. Played Sunday afternoon as a single and got paired with a threesome who just played the slowest golf I've ever seen. Three groups just gave up behind us and skipped onto the hole in front of us. I was trying to pick up the pace of these people but nothing got through. And not once on a Sunday did a ranger come around to monitor play. It left me playing a 2.5 hr front and I didnt get to finish my 18 due to light. Not only did it suck for my pace/rhythm/game but I felt so bad for the entire field behind me. If the starter is going to pair me with this kind of golfer he needs to monitor the course.
This course use to be regarded as one of the better courses in the NW burbs but not anymore. I would go play Buffalo Grove instead as that is just as well maintained, nice staff, decent layout and for a steal on the weekdays.
Arboretum Golf Course
The course was in great shape. We were able to play our round in under 4 hours. It's a good course that will offer challenges to a golfer.
I saw 5 water jugs on course. One after 3,7,12,14,16
Greens will be soft after rain. I played next day and it was in fantastic shape.
