The greens were in good shape.
I have played several rounds in the area the last couple weeks and this course had the best greens by far. They rolled true, not bumpy as other courses that were impacted negatively by the harsh winter.. The course was in decent shape.
Arboretum -After 10am
Very fair but interesting course with diverse features. Cannot beat the price of $50 after 10am on Weekends. Never have to wait, pace of play is great. Friendly staff and awsome bloody mary's....
Nothing like fall golf in the midwest.
When we teed off it was 46 degrees and drizzling. By the time we finished it was 32 and snowing. We also had 15 mph. All things considered the course was in great shape for this time the year.We finished in @2 1/2 hours,we played ready golf in order to stay warm. You have to love this game to endure less than ideal conditions like these.
it was good condition
I play many times this course allways staff goood and good maintnance pro shop has good merchandise and good prices so nothing complain super+++++
Course was too wet because of rain. Motor cart had to stay on cart pad.
It was very difficult to play in rain and wind. I don't know what should I say in terms of review.
Definitely requires a good tee shot!
I really enjoy the course because it is quite challenging. The real key to a good score is getting through the first 4 holes without hurting yourself due to the water on the right & tight fairways left.
Two different courses between the front & back.
The pro shop is ample & the restraint is very good.
Underrated
Beautiful landscapes, underrated and an unexpectedly challenging course will sum up the Arboretum's golf course. The entire course was very well maintained and to my surprise was a tight course to play. The front 9 have some drink holes that will put your game in gear early on. Being a first season player, the Arboretum proved to be a challenge but kept the entire 18 holes interesting.
Challenging and Scenic
This is a challenging course with numerous doglegs, broken fairways, and hazards challenging you to use every club in your bag and rewarding well placed shots and punishing mistakes. Got a huge discount on the course through golf now and because of recently aerated greens. Also, playing after a heavy rain made the course less than perfect but I could just tell it would be great under normal conditions.
Beautiful course, interesting holes.
Loved playing this course (although we were behind an outing which was excruciatingly slow). Hard to believe you're in suburban Chicago, rolling topography and lots of water, but not so challenging that it isn't fun for average golfers. The holes are all interesting in different ways. This is truly one of my new favorite courses.
No Driver Needed
To quote Hemingway from The Old Man and the Sea... "Agua Mala..." Water is everywhere on this course. From the tips at 6400 yards theres no need for a driver. Bring a steady supply of balls. If you don't you'll be buying them at the turn. The greens were great and rolled true. The staff, especially the manager of the carts, were awesome. The Golf Now hot deal for $26 bucks is a steal. Though I still have a bad relationship with this course and the centruy mark I put up here in my high school conference tournament 20 years ago.
good course poorly managed
ball marks on every green ,ranger came around once because someone called and he was looking for them, people hitting 2/3 tee shots giving lessons ,backed up on every tee.
good variety in 18 holes
good course, lots of water and curves, variety in length of holes. The fairways have been through some abuse after the summer, but otherwise in decent shape. I will try and play it during the week next time; it took almost 5hours to play 18 on a Saturday.
Great course for the price!!!!
Lots of water (15 of 18 holes) makes this quite the challenge if you can't keep it in the FW off the tee. But what a great challenge. Lots of fun. I'd definitely recommend it!
Beautiful, yet challenging golf course requires precision
When I saw a hot deal come up for late Saturday morning of Labor Day weekend at Arboretum, I was very excited. I had played there years earlier, found the layout of the course to be truly treacherous (water reachable on 15 out of 18 holes on the golf course), and found it to be a true test of "postage stamp" golf.
The course conditions this time around did not disappoint- lush fairways, well-manicured greens, and of course, that same challenging 18 hole layout. I think the course was even more difficult than I remember it being previously; the narrowness of the fairways with water lurking seemingly everywhere, not to mention the kind of shot-making required there definitely is more suited to the game of an advanced golfer (which I was not on the particular day in question). Several Par 3 tee shots and Par 4 and 5 approach shots demand that your ball flight go directly over a body of water, a lot of times with guarding greenside bunkers, both of which can be intimidating prospects.
For $45 on a Saturday morning (of a holiday weekend, no less), Arboretum was a steal, given how well-taken care of I believe that course is. I was even satisfied with the pace of play for the day and time in which we played. Would definitely return if the price is right- and it was.
The course was for the taking if you drive the ball well
It had rained days before and the course took on a lot of water, but while it played soggy, it was still fun, and very challenging, even more so when wet. I'd play this course again and again...
Challenging but fun course!
Course is in great condition, and fun to play especially if you enjoy a challenge. Water hazards come into play on the most the holes, however the back 9 seems to open up a bit more than the front 9 and little bit more forgiving. From the blue tees, you can easily keep your driver in the bag on most holes, and leave yourself with some good approach shots teeing off with a 3 or 5 wood, or a longer iron if your not that accurate with a driver.
Fast play.
Water everywhere. Greens inconsistent . Other than that nice.
Too tight....uptight ranger as well!
Houses are way too close to the holes. You'll see what I mean off the first hole. Tons of water hazards and OB so you have to hit fairway. Ranger hounded our group telling us to keep up when we were very well on pace, always waiting on the group ahead.
Well maintained course
The course was well-maintained and beautiful. It was a bit tricky due to many water hazards but was ok and enjoyenjoyable.
Very good course!
Was pretty much what I had hoped for in this price range. Would definitely golf here again. Just wish they didn't have so many hazards to the right that gobble up my sliced shots...
