avoid this course this year
This course is in absolutely terrible shape. The rough was incredibly long and unplayable at times. The fairways looked more like rough. Some of the greens were way too small as well. It's a shame because the layout is actually very good, and the course has a lot of potential.Look elsewhere to play, as I will certainly not be back here.
Wet Nightmare
Course is in terrible condition. My wife and I have played many times in the past and knew not to expect too much, but right now they should not be letting golfers out. Holes 2,3,4 are unplayable and we had to skip (course rule, no one can play these holes). Paid for 18 holes but only got to play 15. Pro shop did not even inform us that we were supposed to skip those holes, had to read a little sign. Please save your money! Do not play!
Overpriced, overgrown, and underwater
not much good to say here. course was covered in standing water, grass was extremely long, zero cart paths, and extremely expensive carts. Round was way overpriced. will not return. considering asking for a refund.
Course should've not opened...
Well, it was a disappointing experience here today. We arrived at 5:45AM for our 6AM tee time and were the first ones out on the course. Chicago did get hit late last night with a storm that should've probably shut a course like this down.
Unfortunately, no grounds-crew walked or drove the course to inspect it's condition and it was HORRIBLE.
Uncut fairways, no markers on the tee boxes, and massive lakes in the fairways that even with a great drive or iron shot you couldn't locate the ball OR get it because it was sitting under 4" of water that was 20ft in diameter
After about 4 holes we called it and informed the staff we would like a refund because this was not something we would say is playable conditions. They should've let the course dry out for the morning and only had afternoon tee times maybe.
I will eventually give this course another shot when the weather leading up to the round is a bit better but today's experience was a bummer.
By the way, I have played plenty of other Billy Casper Managed courses here in Chicago and never had a similar experience. Hopefully this was just a fluke.
Weather permitting
With the weather as bad as it’s been, it’s easy to see why it’s been hard to keep up the course. People with the bad reviews aren’t taking that into consideration.
Pathetic Course
This is the worst course I’ve ever played. Just stay home if given the option to play here or not at all. Much better courses around for the same money.
Nice course. Only issues I had were the rough being a little too long and a lot of leaves making it very difficult to locate your ball.
Potential
This course is showing lots of potential. Greens are small but great. Fairway needs some improvement, need to clear leaves. Hard to locate your ball when its not in the fairway.
Keep up the good work Reggie.
Thank you for your kind words and review. We are working hard to ensure that our course conditions provide for an enjoyable, yet challenging round. We hope to see you back again soon!

Reggie in pro shop is awesome
My wife and I played a quick 9 here. Our first time there. Nice enough course. Green are small and fast. Talked with Reggie after our round and he seems to be righting the ship. Good man! Hope to play again soon.
Thanks for your review, Raymond! Reggie is a great employee and we are so glad that you think so too! Hope to see you back again soon.
Pleasant Surprise
I played this course a few years back and was not overly impressed with the condition. Today was different. The fairways were freshly groomed and the greens were in very good shape. On this course, you must keep the ball in the fairway. failure to do so will add strokes to your round.
The staff was extraordinary and everyone I encountered seemed genuinely happy to have me as a guest.
Well done
Good value course puts forth effort to be greag
I’m in Chicago for the summer, and have played a few of the local courses so far. This is my third time at Burnham Woods, and they have made every effort to make the course acomodable to players. The first couple times it was an alright course, but they had a few spots of weeds and growth that was just too long, and you were sure to lose a few balls. They’ve since manicured the entire course it seems. I’m a college student, and shoot in the nineties, so if you’re looking for PGA level amenities you won’t get that. However, if you are looking to play a nice round without a hitch that’s easy on the wallet, can’t recommend a better place. The rough has been cleaned up FAR better than any other “value” course around here ($25-$35 for 18). No remarkable holes really, but you will be able to get just about every club in your bag out, with a couple 500+ yard par 5s. Friendly staff, no complaints there. If you’re looking for a relaxing round that challenges, but doesn’t frustrate you I would highly recommend this course.
Thanks for your 4 star review and feedback. At times, rain and weather can make it challenging for us to mow the rough. While it's not our intention to make it play overly difficult, we sometimes need to make the decision not to cut it in order to not risk damaging our equipment or the grass itself. We appreciate your patience as we work through that. Thank you.
