Pleasant Surprise
I played this course a few years back and was not overly impressed with the condition. Today was different. The fairways were freshly groomed and the greens were in very good shape. On this course, you must keep the ball in the fairway. failure to do so will add strokes to your round.
The staff was extraordinary and everyone I encountered seemed genuinely happy to have me as a guest.
Well done
Good value course puts forth effort to be greag
I’m in Chicago for the summer, and have played a few of the local courses so far. This is my third time at Burnham Woods, and they have made every effort to make the course acomodable to players. The first couple times it was an alright course, but they had a few spots of weeds and growth that was just too long, and you were sure to lose a few balls. They’ve since manicured the entire course it seems. I’m a college student, and shoot in the nineties, so if you’re looking for PGA level amenities you won’t get that. However, if you are looking to play a nice round without a hitch that’s easy on the wallet, can’t recommend a better place. The rough has been cleaned up FAR better than any other “value” course around here ($25-$35 for 18). No remarkable holes really, but you will be able to get just about every club in your bag out, with a couple 500+ yard par 5s. Friendly staff, no complaints there. If you’re looking for a relaxing round that challenges, but doesn’t frustrate you I would highly recommend this course.
Not Well Maintained
The greens had just been aerated which can be expected for this time of year, but the rest of the course was in terrible shape. None of the course looked like it had been mowed in several weeks. The grass on the tee boxes and the fairways was as tall as the ball and the rough was ankle deep.
Course need improvements, but good value
My wife and I played 18 in about four hours today. The course was in rough shape, with some very dry and burnt spots. The clubhouse staff was awesome and efficient, which made for a great start to the day. The one thing I would suggest would be moving the women’s tees up to shorten the course. We enjoy playing courses that give my wife the chance to score. The motto of the PGA is to “play up”, and it would be great to see a shorter set of tees available.
Dry dusty muni
A park district course that is a poor distant cousin of George Dunne. Dry dusty barely maintained fairways. Greens did appear to be watered though and were decent. No rangers to speak of. Hit a wall on the 11th tee where there were 4 groups on the same hole and it was slow going the rest of the round. Bare bones facilities. Cheap but you get what you pay for.
Great Bang for the buck!
Much improved, new golf carts, nice greens.
hidden gem
Burnham Woods is a course that isn't crowded, at least during the week, but it's a great layout and Billy Casper golf keeps it in pretty good condition. There had been some heavy rainfall two days before we played, but the course drained very well, for the most part. I would highly recommend this course, as well as the other south side courses, Joe Louis the champ and River Oaks, both Cook County Forest Preserve courses.
Good price
This course is good for your money. It's also not crowded, great for practice
We are happy to hear you enjoyed your round at Burnham Woods! Thanks for coming out to play; we look forward to seeing you again soon!
Course needs work
The greens on the front 9 were littered with twigs, pollen, tree buds, tree bark etc...Was not well maintained. Was not maintained at all. The back 9 greens were better. I will probably never play there again because this is not my first experience with this course being improperly maintained.
We are sorry to hear that certain course conditions did not meet your expectations. We do our best to maintain a consistent course maintenance schedule in order to ensure our facility is kept in good shape for guests to enjoy. Our number one goal is to provide a fun and enjoyable golfing experience for each guest. We thank you for your feedback and hope you will join us again soon to play another round.
It's a municipal course temper expectations
Even though my partner and I didn't shoot well on the course it was more just mechanics than difficulty of the course itself. If you are looking for a quick dirty cheap golf fix this is your place. They have a couple of longer par 5's but the layout is both quite user friendly and easy. Rough isn't a factor even the water hazards weren't really that bothersome. Just wish we could have shot better this day and it could have been a wonderful day but when you hit short and do a lot of slicing and hooking of the ball it makes for a longer more brutal day. Some tees weren't tees just mowed down circles in the grass, and I think leaf mulching could have been done at 6am not 11am when people are looking around in piles of leaves for balls. Manager on duty was nice/friendly and it was a slow day so no beverage cart.
Burnham
Worst course I ever played... Never again...couldn't tell the fairways from the rough... Muddy and big puddles in all fairways and it hasn't rained
Would play elsewhere
Ton of leaves on greens. stay away after rain.
Fairways wide open.
Not many people at 9:15 am. Finished round in 3 hours (shoot in the 90s). Would have been faster since I waited on about 4-5 holes for people to finish.
Thanks for your review. We hope to see you again soon!
