Love this course!
Great 9 hole course. Forces you to get better at fighting out of tree lines and sand. Love the bar too.
Nice 9-hole municipal course
A creek runs thru 6 of the 9-holes. Pace of play was good for a Friday 10:40a tee time.
Solid
Solid muni, nothing fancy about it but course was in great shape for the price point. I walked it for 17 bucks, fun little layout. Traps well maintained. Greens rolled fine.
Not a bad 9-hole
The bunkers and greens are challenging; more difficult than your average golf course. It’s a good place to dial in your irons, but not many holes where you can hit driver. It’s pretty cramped, but for 9 holes, I suppose that’s to be expected.
Nice 99 Hole Course
Pace of play was good. Greens in excellent shape. Fairways average to good. Rough is playable for average golfer.
Just not a great course
Course wasn’t in great shape today, not surprising given the rain we’ve gotten over the past week.
I’ve played this course about 5 or 6 times now and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just not a very well designed course. A good golf course should reward good golf, but VHGC does not do that. The wide creek that runs through the course is in the landing zone on about 3 holes, requiring either a 250+ yard drive, or a layup leaving a 200+ yard approach shot to small greens. That’s not fair golf IMO, especially for the average muni player. The 6th is also a good example of poor design. Unless you hit your drive to the extreme left side of the fairway, and at least 240+ yards there are two trees in your line to the green so that your second shot requires a tight hook to access the green.
All in all, not a course that I’m likely to play again, especially considering the plethora of good public golf in the area.
