Just not a great course
Course wasn’t in great shape today, not surprising given the rain we’ve gotten over the past week.
I’ve played this course about 5 or 6 times now and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just not a very well designed course. A good golf course should reward good golf, but VHGC does not do that. The wide creek that runs through the course is in the landing zone on about 3 holes, requiring either a 250+ yard drive, or a layup leaving a 200+ yard approach shot to small greens. That’s not fair golf IMO, especially for the average muni player. The 6th is also a good example of poor design. Unless you hit your drive to the extreme left side of the fairway, and at least 240+ yards there are two trees in your line to the green so that your second shot requires a tight hook to access the green.
All in all, not a course that I’m likely to play again, especially considering the plethora of good public golf in the area.
Challenging nine hole course
Challenging nine hole course! The clubhouse in the starter were very friendly even though I was 10 minutes late. Challenging greens with water hazards. Definitely a step up from other typical nine hole course.
9 Holes of Pedestrian Golf
For a 9 hole corse, VH was pretty basic. The course challenges you by having tiny greens.
The fairways are pretty straight forward and not much to them.
Yardage was not clearly marked and the tee boxes were pretty chewed up.
The nice thing is it is not a par 3 nine hole course. There is an opportunity to drive the ball.
Over all it was a fair course not the best not the worst, but I probably won’t ply here again for the price.

Best overall 9-hole course I’ve played…..
Very, very nice course to play for a 70+ yr old player like myself. The trick here is to stay away from the traps!! The creek water crossings can be challenging to your second shot. The only negative for my round was the inattentive care of the greens by foursomes playing in front of me. Soft cleat scuff marks and lack of ball mark repair was prevalent on most every green. I will often be back to play this challenging course!!!
