Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

In good shape, but ...
there is a lot of water on the course. The starter warned us about roped-off areas, and they were all over the course. Additionally, there was standing water on a number of greens. Not sure where all the water is coming from.
Good layout, lots of waiting
Overall bad experience, but a good course. Far oaks has some interesting holes, and is in good shape overall (fairways, tee boxes, bunkers are good - some greens are pretty bad though). Our group, and most groups in sight were waiting about 10 minutes on every tee box (and almost 20 min. on #5). It took us about 5 hours to get through 15 holes before we had to leave for other plans. It's tough to find any value in an experience you can't reliably fit into your day - probably won't be back.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS COURSE!
Far Oakes is a joy to play, and when you're paired up with a couple of early morning regulars it's all the better. Had a fun time out and can't wait to see the guys again in a couple of weeks.
The course is gorgeous winding through some of the prettiest homes I've seen in the area. Setup is challenging but not too tough. Some of the greens are seriously canted which makes for some exciting putts.
The greens - folks, FIX YOUR BALL MARKS and PICK UP YOUR FEET (don't drag your spikes)!!! It's absolutely disrespectful to the property and the players following you. It's small thing that can kill a course.
Overall loved it - hope to make Far Oakes the "home course".
Great course!!!
Was shocked at the condition of this course for the money I paid. I expected your regular run of the mill course set inside a subdivision. I was quite surprised when I pulled into the parking lot and saw this place. Well maintained and and excellent accommodations. Beautiful layout with challenging aspects. I will be back.
Good course but move your pin positions
Golf course is great. It is a fun layout that gives players a lot of options off the tee. Fairways and Tees are perfect, however they need to move their hole locations to different areas of their greens. This is a great public course that has a lot of rounds but their greens are beat up because the hole locations are always in the same general area. I understand the need to give the greens plenty of water when it is this hot but move the locations around and the greens would look and hold up better
Greens were terrible
This used to be my favorite course. Tee boxes were fair, fairways were good, greens were in horrible condition. Not worth the high price
Awesome course, great pace and value!
Great layout, reachable par 5's on the front, more open front 9. Back 9 is tighter and requires more layups. It's a great mix of holes and fun to play. Pace of play is very good. Even when it's "slow", I play 18 in 4 hours.
My home course, so glad I live close to it, will play it for years and never tire of the challenge!
Very nice course!!
Course was very nice. Greens need a little attention but generally in good shape. Definitely a course to play if in the St Louis area. Good value for the price.
Not as Nice as I expected
The fairways were beautiful however, greens and bunkers needs some attention to. I would play again however, I would tell someone to play Stone Wolf before I would suggest Far Oaks.
Nice Course
The course was cut out of the woods with beautiful houses surrounding it. Some interesting and a variety of holes. Would play again.
This course is a must
Wonderful staff, drinks and the course is in great condition! I look forward to playing here again.
Still one of my favorite courses
The course is still one of my favorite courses around St. Louis. The course itself is in good shape with a good layout. Worth the 35 minute trip for me to get there.
Round interrupted
course in good condition. Pace of play less than desirable. overall, good experience. one complaint is that we had already started round and out of nowhere comes the starter . he wants us to wait on the course so he can hook a single up with us. as busy as the course was, there was nobody that had not started their round yet that he could hook the single up with??? C'mon guys , let's get our tee sheet organized
Greens showing some wear.
Nice facility and nice course overall. Like the course layout. Bonus points for new golf carts and awesome club house.
Greens were in the condition to be expected of a lesser facility. Several (noon Par-3 holes) had cart-path only fencing which was annoying, especially to my seventy year old playing partner with bad knees.
Course needs to decide whether to try to stay upscale or go cheaper with lesser maintenance. Current condition more the latter than the former.
Great fairways
Zoysia fairways were great. The greens were above average.many gorgeous homes have been built on this course the past few years. Overall a great golfing experience
Good Course that could be great
Played Far Oaks for the first time with a friend from the area. Staff was friendly from the beginning. The gentleman working in the pro shop offered us a large bucket of range balls before our round at no charge. Rangers on the course were around managing the pace. My only knocks on the course are that the bunkers were in below average shape as they were extremely low on sand. We had to move our ball or rake sand to a spot to get a somewhat true sand shot. We were told that this was going to be taken care of. The only other negative was the length of the fairway grass. I felt the grass was a bit long for a fairway. Not sure if this is always the length of the fairway grass but I would prefer a true short cut fairway. All in all I would not hesitate to play the course again.
One of my favorite courses.
Not a lot needs to be said. Out of everywhere I play in Southern, IL, this place is top 3. Always good conditions and a fun course layout.
Quick Tip: Play #1 from the Tips, even if you aren't playing the back tee boxes. It'll make it play closer to an actual par 5.
Some nice holes, but not a great layout
This course has some nice holes, but as a whole, there are some issues with how the holes flow. You definitely could NOT walk this course...green to tees are long drives on some holes and the cart paths are poorly laid out (especially #16)...why is the cart path so far up the hill from the green? Clubhouse staff are friendly and attentive, but the groundskeepers are less than considerate. They will not stop their mowers or move out of the way when you play thru. Overall, it played like a 3.5 star course and when the fairways come in, I will review again and probably up my review to a solid 4. This a good course, but could easily be a 4.5 course with a few tweaks.
Good value
Course has a variety of holes so expect to use all of your clubs. The course was in decent shape, but a few tee boxes are in bad shape. Most of the greens roll true, but are a bit slow. Overall it is a nice course and a great value for the price.
