Happy to return to play at Carriage Greens
Used to play this course on a regular basis. I'm happy to be back, especially because I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly.
Wide Open
Nice and Challenging course. I like that the course was not backed up at all (we hardly saw anyone else on the course) and breezed through 18 holes. Greens and stand traps could be maintained a little better but the course was in overall good shape.
Carriage Greens Comback
The Improvements keep adding up in Darien. Our local course with new carts in 2016. Improved drainage and greens. With Mostly New Staff there is a bright outlook for the future , Also improved are the Bunkers with plenty sand to get you close, and lot's of deforesting. Flipping the front and back nine adds a new demension. Try Carriage again you will enjoy all of the updates.
I've been playing this course for years and they are always changing things up to make it better all the time. It's never too hard to get a tee time, the course is in great shape, and the staff is always friendly and willing to help in anyway they can. I love this course and I would recommend it to everyone.
Ups and downs
Course was improved from last year but that could be due to recent lack of rain. Previously poor drainage left some areas swampy. Very hot day so course was not crowded. Two complaints: no yardage markers and red tees that look like an afterthought. They are like concrete, uneven and minuscule. A good value though for the recreational golfer.
Great layout
Course in great shape, greens rolled true and were perfect. Fairways also great, very challenging, love the layout. Played this course 4 or 5 years ago, it is definitely in much better condition. It's a true gem!
Course is looking better
I have played Carriage Greens over the years and they really let it go. Seems it is under new management and they have done a lot to improve the greens on thee course. For the price, it is a good value for the money Staff was friendly and good service from the beer cart girl.
Grea5 value for a Hot Deal
Nice course good condition and not crowed at this time of year.
Leave the Driver in the Bag
The fairways are tight and I scored better once I left the driver in the bag. The ball washers on the tee boxes did not have towels attached to them. Found very little drinking water on the course. Need a course map with the layout of each hole. EVERY green had numerous ball marks that made putting difficult, I probably repaired 5-6 ball marks on each green. There was an outing finishing up the day I played and the person in the pro shop may have been a little tired but I did not appreciate his comment when I asked if there was a starter on the first tee. The course has potential but needs to fix a few things to be a really good course.
Good value for the price
Not the best course in the area, but it's a good option for your money. I always have a good experience when I am here. Although I have to point out that I ordered a bratwurst at the turn and waited for five minutes or so. But the bratwurst was COLD. Not warm, but COLD. Not acceptable, but I needed to keep pace. Otherwise, I have asked for my money back, for the cold bratwurst.
Nice course, bad customer service
We booked our reservation on golf now, but when we arrived we were told golf now made a mistake and instead of having 11 golfers paying the golf now rate, only 8 could receive the reduced rate, and 3 had to pay $16 more per person. The pro shop person helping us went on to explain how golf now works in conjunction with the course and that it was their screw up. From a customer's perspective, the relationship between golf now and the course is really none of our concern. We booked reservations, prepaid, and show up to play to find out we have to fork over $48 bucks if we want to play. Considering it was the courses decision to partner with golf now, you would think they would deal with the screw up and not affect the customer. They seemed concerned that we had a group of 11 with 2 teenagers, men, and women. So we had to wait quite a bit to get going while they put a threesome in front of us, that wasn't ready to go. we were all sitting at the first tee waiting and had already stated we were playing best ball. Course itself was in good condition, nice layout, pace of play was good, once we got out there. It would be nice to have a map of the course on the cart, on the scorecard, or on the markers. Also, when grabbing food or drinks after the 9th hole, it would be nice if it was set up to be a lot faster. Held us up a good 15 minutes.
Played this course first time this year and have played this course 4 times since.
I played this course for the first time in April, 2017. I have payed it four times since. I have always heard that the greens were slow and the maintenance wasn't great. The course brought in a new manager for golf and he has put a lot of work into making the course play like it should. The layout is perfect now since they changed it. The greens have been rebuilt and roll smooth and quick. To make the course more challenging the pins are placed in difficult locations at times. What I have noticed is they have a ground crew repair divots and ball marks on the greens near the end of the day. I think players should get into the habbit of repairing their ball marks on greens and divots in the fairways. It would be nice to have the green sand with grass seed on the carts to help repair divots. A lot of us are weekend warriors but we need to help keep courses nice and repair our own damage. This course is truly a hidden gem. The pace of play is quick and you can get a round in under 4 hours. I highly recommend this course.
Very much improved
I have played here in the past and the course has always had drainage issues and the greens have just been ok to bad. I played here today and was shocked at how nice the course looked and played. It was still a little damp but you can see areas of the course that they are actually WORKING on. It looked like they are addressing drainage on a few holes. Which was confirmed when I spoke with the staff in the golf shop. They have new management and you can see that the course is starting to turn around. If you have played here in the past, I suggest you come out and play here now and you will see the change for the better. Greens rolled very well with the exception of the ninth hole (use to be 18 as they have switched the nines). I was told they are looking into renovating that hole, which would make a huge difference. I hope they continue to keep the course like it was today. Great day at Carriage Greens.
Carriage Greens a great experience.
I was part of a 8;30 foursome and found a friendly staff. We were the first ones off and pace of play was great of course. Tees and greens are in excellent shape with clean and well mowed fairways. I would appreciate yardage makers at the usual spots though there are 150 stakes in the fairways. In addition to a course that is a fair value for an occasional above average golf experience I also recommend the $2.00 drafts in the Pro Shop and the amazing sandwiches in the bar upstairs. Try Carriage Greens.
Good price, good round of golf, fast play
Play 18 midday Friday. Few golfers were on the course so play was extremely fast. Finished under 4 hours. The course was a little wet in some spots from the recent rain in the area. Would play there again. Only negative scorecard did not match the holes (front nine and back nine was flipped). Excellent value for the price.
