About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

Golfer Reviews
Beautifully challenging coarse
Tee boxes were the best I’ve played in the bistate area as the fairways! Bunkers needed some attention, the greens were tough... moisture was spot on but some bare spots, however the staff is on top of the greens condition and are diligently working on improving this course daily.
Great couo
What a treat, tough Nicklaus design it doesn’t have to be long to be difficult!
Couple of greens showing some stress but overall excellent
Course was in bad condition
I have played Stonewolf many times over the years and have always enjoyed the course....It has always been worth the money and hour drive to play....today was very disappointing.....the greens were the worst greens I have played all year and many of the sand traps were close to unplayable. Won't be going back until I am assured things have improved.
A hot deal turned into a smokin good time.
Bought a hot deal at a, comparatively speaking, smokin hot price. I would happily play the course again and again. For four average to below average golfers we like that it was challenging but not overwhelming. Tee boxes were in good shape and the fairways were solid; no large dead patches on either. The rough was not Pevely farms horrendous. Some of the sand traps were hard as concrete but that is to be expected to come degree. The green rolled fairly and evenly, not quick not slow. Overall, we had a super good time.
Great challenge
This was the second time I have played Stonewolf. It is a good course with a nice mix of challenge and openness. This is one of those course that really demands course management because if you don’t know where the flat lies are you’ll play shots above or below your feet all day.
Stonewolf is a great value if you book online.
The pace of play has always been decent and one can expect to play a round in under 4:30 on a busy day.
I drive from Ballwin monthly to play and feel it is one of the better courses in the IL area.
Fabulous course
Excellent from the tee box to the greens. Staff wonderful.
Absolutely best course in the area for the money.
Slow play
Stonewolf is going through a lot of changes most are good , including eliminating many sand traps and clearing of trees around some greens to improve air flow. The problem today was there was a amateur tour golf outing booked before our tee time, and our round took 5 hours and forty five minutes to play 18 holes THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE ON ANY COURSE,!! No marshalls and Our foursome may nevertheless return....
Stonewolf
Greens had been punched, but were fast, very wet and windy conditions . Layout is good fairly typical Nicklaus design. There is a driving range and putting green. Subdivisions are close by. Clubhouse and pro shop are nice.
Too early
Based on other reviews I thought the course would be in better shape than it was. It was fairly early in the season but I was hoping for better. Didn’t help it was cart path only and muddy (rain the day before) and most of the cart paths are nowhere near the fairway, but can’t blame course for that. I’m sure in a month it will be in great shape
Iowa stop
Always try to play a Nicklaus course on our trips, again not disappointed, very cool layout with turns to the right and left, some holes you had to think about your shot before you pulled the trigger. Greens were great, nice speed, fairways used zoysia grass allowing the ball to always be sitting up. If in the area, stop and play.
