Stonewolf Golf Club
About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

View Tee Box #1 Photo submitted by Sundayfun on 10/21/2012
Best Course I have played this year. Excellent Condition
This Course was in the best condition I have see this year. From the tee boxes-fairways to the greens...hats off to your whole staff on having an excellent golf course.
One of the Best in the Area
This course is always challenging for me. As a 20 Handicap it the constant threat of bunkers, particularly greenside can really derail an otherwise good round.
Course conditions are always some of the best around, though rain can make a few holes pretty soft as the course has several low areas as it winds through hills and creek beds.
All in all a great course, and if you get a tee time on golf now for $44 bucks on a Saturday Morning it can't be beat!
My favorite local course
The perfect blend of challenge and beauty. Extremely well-tended. A delight to play.
Great course for a Hot Deal.
I'm a beginner golfer, and this is definitely a challenging course for me. I wouldn't pay full price to play it, but it was definitely an outstanding deal at $20!
bunkers need to tended to
the course was in decent shape. it had more clover in the rough than previous rounds. the bunkers desperately need to be raked. the sand is packed tight and shallow.
Better than ever
Have played here since it opened, and is in great condition way better than in the past few years. Close to how it was supposed to be when Jack designed it. Few holes have some ground under repair. Bunkers are very thin but playable.
Beware of the first 4 holes!
This is a fantastic course. If you survive the first four holes, take a deep breath and press on! Great clubhouse. Nice driving range and putting green. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are excellent. Bunkers have nice quality sand. Residents each take care of specific greensand this maintains the championship quality of their performance. Move up one tee box and enjoy the scenery.
challenging course
overall very nice condition except the bunkers were not maintained at all. This would be very close to my favorite around two if the bunkers were maintained.
Great value. Course in great shape, although fairways were soggy in spots due to 4" of rain the day before. Easy access from St. Louis.
Had a great time for my first outing here. Play in my foursome was slow due to "cart path only" rule due to wet grounds and lost balls. Accuracy a must. Some holes are hilly, and some are flat. Water and thick rough or woods and in-close out-of-bounds can be problems for a hacker like me.Scenic. Deer abound. Easy access from west of the Miss. River.
This is a course that if you play it for the first time you will not know where the areas of the course are where you can cut off strokes.
This is one of the nicer courses in the St. Louis area. If you are a first time golfer on this course it will be a lot harder to score because you won't know where to cut off strokes. Afterr you play Stonewolf for the first time you will want to come back again and again.
Challenging
Every hole was a challenge and the course in excellent condition. I will definitely visit again.
Everything you would want!
Stonewolf is in great shape and has everything a golfer wants.... Good range, friendly staff, challenging course, and excellent conditions.
Staff was very friendly.
There was a very nice golf course.
I like it.
I will go play next time.
Challenging greens
Lots of 'fun' putts to be had. Course was in excellent condition. Definitely have to think your way around the course.
The greens are almost 100% poa.
For playing after all the rain that we have endured in the STL Metro area, Stonewolf was in excellent condition. Nicklaus courses are all very challenging and this is no exception. The biggest concern is when the heat of our summer sets in and the poa burns away, will there be any putting surfaces??
Great companion course in proximity to Far Oaks
Stonewolf has maintained being one of my favorite courses for several reasons. It always presents a challenge in shot placement, its scenic, staff and facilities are always friendly and clean and, pricing is always attractive for avid golfers who play a couple times a week on fixed incomes. When peak season is in full bloom, Stonewolf is a beautiful scenic course with great greens. When they cut them to 11-12, they'll give you the blues in speed, quickly turning a birdie or par to a bogey or double.
Nice course with potential.
Needs work. It has been very wet, but sandtraps are mud traps. There is no sand in them. Takes that part of play out of game.
Course under repair
The course is in terrible condition. Many holes are under repair and cart path only. The greens are un-puttable and choppy yet they are charging full price with no disclaimers? Use to be one of my favorite courses. I will not return.
