About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

Golfer Reviews
Beware of the first 4 holes!
This is a fantastic course. If you survive the first four holes, take a deep breath and press on! Great clubhouse. Nice driving range and putting green. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are excellent. Bunkers have nice quality sand. Residents each take care of specific greensand this maintains the championship quality of their performance. Move up one tee box and enjoy the scenery.
challenging course
overall very nice condition except the bunkers were not maintained at all. This would be very close to my favorite around two if the bunkers were maintained.
Great value. Course in great shape, although fairways were soggy in spots due to 4" of rain the day before. Easy access from St. Louis.
Had a great time for my first outing here. Play in my foursome was slow due to "cart path only" rule due to wet grounds and lost balls. Accuracy a must. Some holes are hilly, and some are flat. Water and thick rough or woods and in-close out-of-bounds can be problems for a hacker like me.Scenic. Deer abound. Easy access from west of the Miss. River.
This is a course that if you play it for the first time you will not know where the areas of the course are where you can cut off strokes.
This is one of the nicer courses in the St. Louis area. If you are a first time golfer on this course it will be a lot harder to score because you won't know where to cut off strokes. Afterr you play Stonewolf for the first time you will want to come back again and again.
Everything you would want!
Stonewolf is in great shape and has everything a golfer wants.... Good range, friendly staff, challenging course, and excellent conditions.
The greens are almost 100% poa.
For playing after all the rain that we have endured in the STL Metro area, Stonewolf was in excellent condition. Nicklaus courses are all very challenging and this is no exception. The biggest concern is when the heat of our summer sets in and the poa burns away, will there be any putting surfaces??
Great companion course in proximity to Far Oaks
Stonewolf has maintained being one of my favorite courses for several reasons. It always presents a challenge in shot placement, its scenic, staff and facilities are always friendly and clean and, pricing is always attractive for avid golfers who play a couple times a week on fixed incomes. When peak season is in full bloom, Stonewolf is a beautiful scenic course with great greens. When they cut them to 11-12, they'll give you the blues in speed, quickly turning a birdie or par to a bogey or double.
Nice course with potential.
Needs work. It has been very wet, but sandtraps are mud traps. There is no sand in them. Takes that part of play out of game.
Course under repair
The course is in terrible condition. Many holes are under repair and cart path only. The greens are un-puttable and choppy yet they are charging full price with no disclaimers? Use to be one of my favorite courses. I will not return.
Jack would be upset
We were traveling and stopped to play this course. I called and asked for directions; asked if it was exit 9 and was told "that sounds about right.". (it was exit 12 b ut we found it) Our cart had a gps that wasn't working and we were not told that there was such a vast variety of terrian and that a GPS would help. oUR CART DID NOT HAVE WATER (NONE!) IN THE BALL WASHER/CLUB WASHER ON IT. A slow foresome of men were in front of us on the back and would not let us play through so we had to skip a par 3. (typed on I-64 in ky)
Walters Golf Management Hits a Hole in One!
Walters Golf has some of the best courses in the St Louis area and Stonewolf may very well be there flagship. Bogey Hills, Gateway National, Pevely Farms, and Bent Creek are beautiful courses that I really enjoy playing but Stonewolf does not take a backseat to any of them.
This course is difficult. Numerous bunkers and the greens are smallish or multi-tiered. There is water but it really doesn't come into play. The Bermuda grass fairways aren't still waiting for spring but there is still enough to hit on.
Staff was nice enough but the GPS didn't work on the carts but there are enough markings on the course sprinkler heads and yard markers on the cart paths to compensate.
Even for a golf now deal, the course was a bit pricey, $37.00 , but if I am going to pay a course like this is worth the money. Walters consistently offers the best prices for the quality of course which is why I look for their courses first on Golf Now.
Beautiful through winter
I was very pleased to play this course for the first time, all I can say is Fantastic. challenging enough but still fun. Beautiful layout. Not your typical straight drive and wedge to the pin course like some in the area. I'm definitely coming back.
Always enjoyable
Definitely worth the trip to Fairview Heights. Well-maintained, heavily bunkered, a good golf test. I like the 2-3 short par 4s with numerous bunkers in fairway and around green, holes 3, 7, 11. No hole looks the same. The only thing I'm not a big fan of on this course is the greens--seem like a blend of different grasses, don't always roll consistently. Played on an $11 tee time from golfnow and were first ones out at 9am--took a little over 3 hours, so I really shouldn't complain much. Will return soon.
Great shape for Feb.
Greens great shape and fast for Feb. Golf. Can't wait till everything "greens up"
The course was in fair shape for this time of year.
Conditions of the golf course were above average from other courses in the area. However, the greens were very sandy and had way too many twigs and sticks on the greens which made it very hard to putt. Also, the normal price of $42 for this time of year is very unreasonable. No course in this area during the winter is worth that price in my opinion. $20 is a fair rate considering the condition of the golf course.
Play was slow.
The course was cart path only. This caused play to be extremely slow; there were only a few holes that should have been cart path only; for the most part the fairways could have easily supported cart traffic. Most golfers are smart and courteous enough to avoid the wet spots. I never saw a single maintenance person around to assess the playing conditions.
