Hilly - Carts Only
This course requires that you both pay for and use a cart. First time I've ever heard a course tell you that you either ride or take a hike. Seems like most players are older and cannot handle walking the hills. This also resulted in a very slow front 9 (2.5 hours) until the older groups quit after nine holes.
Greens and tees are in good shape. However, fairways are indistinguishable from the rough. Lots of dead trees that need to be removed. Flower beds need gardening; shrubs need trimming. Focus seems to be on maintaining tees and greens to the detriment of the rest of the course which was maintained sloppily.
Course is very quirky with blind tee shorts and blind approaches to greens. The back nine has a hole with a massive tree blocking the green. Going over is impossible. A creek makes punching under treacherous. Massive bunkers surround the green. There's practically no room to be in the fairway and avoid the tree. The hole is borderline unfair.
Great course to play for the money.
First time playing Fox Lake CC and we enjoyed the round. The fairways and Greens were in great shape. Staff very friendly and we will definitely be back. Need to give this course a try.
An up and down experience
Nice little golf course with lots of blind shots both from the tees and fairways. Greens good shape but large and undulating. Beautiful bunkering with playable conditions. Fairways narrow with lots of trees and too many bushes. Water features are minimal but come into play on back nine. Would go back but not when I'm in bad shape to walk it.. Architect took advantage of the magnificient terrain for Northeastern Illinois
Good course, worth the money
Nice but challenging course with several greens that cannot be seen from tee or fairway; well maintained, too
giant tree line fairways, blind shots are plentiful, great greens
This course is tree lined, somewhat narrow fairways that require you to hit fairways to get a good score. Greens are big but not rolling with alot of levels. The par threes are all challenging. There are plenty of uphill and downhill lies. I believe the slope rating is not quite high enough, it's tougher than 126 from the middle tees.
great course at a great price
This is a beautiful course to play. Lots of rolling hills. No condo's.
Greens are in good condition and have a lot of breaks to make putting a challenge. Several Tees are elevated offering nice scenic views. This is one of my favorite places to play and offers an unbelievable golf value for the money.
have to be right on with your irons. not alot of advantage for the ladies, except a couple of holes but still a good course
we went on 11/10/2012 on a saturday. probably the last warm day this year. tee times were back to back but the pace was set pretty good. we didnt have to wait at all and the groups behind us fell back. so at times we could take our time. even though we didnt need to. conditions were ok for the time of year. this is the first course i had been to that had the rake with the cart. so at times we would look around the bunker and say to ourselves, "wheres the rake" and leave. all along we had the rake in the cart with us, lol. it was a fun round. maybe not for the hubby but i had a fun and good score. thanks fox lake!
