Hickory hills
Pleased with the course and it’s condition for it Being November! Had an issue with the first cart I was assigned and the lady inside spent 10 minutes on her cell phone before she realized I had come back in. Overall the course is pretty easy. I enjoy the hilly layout and is a hidden gem just outside of Chicago! Will be back again!
Would love to play this course in the summer!
It was windy and cold! But, that’s not the courses fault. The course is awesome. Can’t wait to have a go on it next summer. The club house feels a bit long in the tooth but not bad for being 100 years old!
Lots of hills
If you like hills then you will like this course. Hidden gem, but easy to find. Greens a limitless slow but very nice.
Luv Hickory Hills CC
If you like old school layouts - THIS IS YOUR COURSE!! Hilly, woody and fair I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Very surprised how well they cleaned up the ash trees with only a few dead ones left. This course has it all: challenging tee shots that are tight that go into wide fairways, shots over ravines, elevated greens, etc. Take number 18 for example - a super short par 4 but the base of the green is literally plugged with thousands of failed approach shots from people not gauging the elevation.. Look past the fairways and realized this is how golf should be played - in hilly woods. I thought I was in Michigan a couple of times. NOT ON SKY CADDIE, though, but on Golf Logix.
Hills in Illinois?
The course is different! Every hole seems to be up or down a hill. I enjoyed my round.
Hickory Hills Golf experience.
Having played here I knew what to expect. Course in good condition especially the greens.
Not for the low handicapper but perfect for the intermediate or high handicapper.
Not much water and virtually no sand traps but lots of trees which gives the course its character.
The golf manager wasn't too pleased with the amount we paid on golf now and if that's the case he shouldn't offer it on golf now.
Will play there again and recommend to my friends but only on golf now to make it truly a value.
Worth the money?
This is one of the worst establishments I've ever been to. Including the rude staff, it is the worst kept course around. I'll now avoid this course without giving another recommendation.
Nice Course, Poor Service
To put it plainly, it is a case of a pretty fun course, ruined by staff members. This is the third time we've played this course and the older man running the club house disposition ran from cold to chastising. The starter is pleasant for the most part. There is no marshal to help keep play moving along, which is a problem if you are average golfers stuck behind 2 groups of 4 very slow golfers. Your choices are either drive back to the club house to ask for permission to skip holes, or suffer behind them. Lastly we grabbed a cart that after 2 holes started to "fall apart". It had a lazy peddle, a loose screw on the canopy, would backfire nearly every time you drove it and of course the back cushion of the seat was falling off. It was a very nice day that was made difficult and stressful because our interactions with the staff were disappointing. We won't be returning to what is otherwise a really very nice course to play.
This was really bad, however it was very easy which was fun no diffrence between the rough and fairway and the greens were carpet. However the old man who was the starter was pleasant.
All about the greens
Overall we very much enjoyed playing Hickory Hills. Course was in good conditions, except for the greens. Though they looked great, they were agonizingly slow. Uphill putts were almost impossible to get to the hole. Needed a good cut and roll. Also a few well placed sand traps would help.
Good for the money (Booked through GolfNow)
First off, I booked this rate through GolfNow Hotdeals so I received a good deal.
Fairly easy course - no water hazards, bunkers, open fairway.
Greens were okay, grounds crew were out fixing some patches so you know they at least are out there maintaining the course.
Overall good experience, would come back again
Decent Golf
Pretty cheap rate with the hot deal. Definitely worth the $18 rate. No waiting on a Sunday afternoon! The course played well despite the rough being a bit long so a ball or two was lost. The service was outstanding and incredibly friendly and accommodating from the clubhouse to the starter. Pace of play was also terrific, would play again!
Could be much better
The course has the potential of being much better. The tee boxes weren't cut and the greens seemed very inconsistent. The tee boxes were full of weeds and tall grass. Even on the par 3s or shorter 4s, it felt like I was teeing it from the rough when using an iron. The greens had spots on them were the ball would die. I feel putting is the best part of my game and I know I was hitting solid. The ball would hit spots on the greens and slow down tremendously.
Waste of time and $$$
Nightmare,,,Couldn't find a ball in a fairway, grass on the greens was longer then fairways on other courses,
Facility is in horrible condition, it's a dump,,,
Great value on a hot deal
Got to play 18 holes on a Saturday afternoon with Cart for $13. You just can't beat that. With that being said I was one of four groups on the entire course. Finished in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Hickory is pretty solid layout to shoot well. It's a shame tho could be a very nice course if they put money back into the course. All in all good experience.
ok course for the right price
3 hour round due to Bears being on TV at same time. Rough is tall but due to rain is has been difficult to keep up with maintnenance. Greens are usually slow here. Dont pay more than 35$ with a cart or you'll be disappointed.
Hickory Hells
Course was in terrible shape, no fairways, greens were destroyed. Awkward course layout. Very dirty and not well kept. Cart died, big mud puddle covered in grass that we got stuck in not knowing it was there as if it was covered or something. Brick lightning structures collapsing being kept together by pieces of rope. Clubhouse had no food and warm Gatorade.
Could be great, probably was 20 years ago.
Layout on this course is great. Definitely some unique holes that can be challenging. Grass condition was terrible other than the greens. Most greens were pretty good. No visible fairway anywhere. All the grass was the same length and the tee boxes were mostly weeds and dirt.
