9th hole cart path fairway Photo submitted by HOTSPOTTS on 05/09/2018
Rough cut
Couldn't tell the difference between the fairway and the rough, fairway was overgrown. Several of the tee boxes were filled with weeds and not cut down. Long course, would be a great course if maintained better. Still not terrible for the price.
Golf Now Price was the kwy
Got a superior deal on golfnow but had to pay full price for my partner. The full price is not worth it. Yardage is always a guess. Few if any yardage markers. Bunkers in terrible shape. Greens rather "spungy". Layout was rather right. Scorecards only gave distance for one set of tees. If you get a deal on golfnow take it. Otherwise, try something else.
Play for Less money
My friends and I played this course for $13 on golf now hot deals so can't complain much, I can't comprehend the green fee with cart of $50 on a weekend, not worth it. Green need to be cut better, fairways needs more attention, tee boxes need attention, bunkers ohhh just forget about them and take a free relief by calling them under repair. I would go back and play for $15 with cart on a weeekend.
worst maintained course around, only a value a $10
The fairways are some of the worst around and poorly maintained, the greens are getting better
more like a Wisconsin course
I would only recommend to a friend with the caveat that as a Hot Deal , it was a great value at $16.00 ,would be disappointed if I paid rack rate .Tee boxes that are not manicured , fairways that are cut way too long , and greens that are slow because length of grass is long . I like the layout , some doglegs and lots of trees and elevation changes. It was hard to find club house , need to go to the Chateau Banquet Hall , and walk through tunnel to find club house .First time here since overhaul of course , last time was 25 years ago and course was in better condition back in the day . Starter/cart manager was extremely friendly and good natured. Could be a real gem if they improve course condition tees to green.
needs the grass cut, way to high even after a mowing
We play the course regularly and because it's a hop skip and a jump away from where I live it's a very convenient course for me. The price is fair but the pace of play is generally good. Because we know are way around the course we can skip holes and then come back later and play them. The course is always in bad shape but it's a fun course and the staff are friendly and always nice. I would love for the owners to keep the fairway grasses a bit shorter, I understand how it is over there, but this would really be helpful to most of the golfers, at least keep the fairways in better shape, if you leave the rough higher then so be it, you're supposed to be in the fairways anyways. Someone should really clean up the few bunkers you have. I quick rotor tiller and some clean up is all they need
Not An Enjoyable Experience, Will Never Return
I will start by saying that even playing the round in right around two hours and playing very well, I STILL left the facility extremely disappointed with my golfing experience. The tee box, fairway, and rough are all the same length. Add to this that it was slightly wet (prone to plugging), and finding drives that were right-down-the-middle was even an adventure! The course layout was not very well-organized, with paths constantly crossing directly through fairways and occasionally leading you away from greens and tee boxes. With the old-school gas powered carts, good luck getting up some of these hills!
The greens were in reasonable condition, minus the fact that they badly needed to blow off the debris. On short putts, I would brush dirt and such off the line; on longer putts, I would have needed a broom to even make a solid attempt.
With a lot of work, this course could be a very fun round. There are plenty of elevation changes, with reachable par fives and even some drivable par fours (thanks to a 30 mph wind at my back!).
Overall, when you really play great and it is a beautiful day, it really says something about the condition to leave the course saying to yourself, "I will never return to this place again!"
No good
Greens well kept, there is no fairways (basically all first cut rough) and the tee boxes are basically like putting your tee in rough also. I only paid 12 dollars on a hot deal so i got what i payed for but their normal advertised price of 40 dollars is waaayyyy too high. All in all if they cleaned the place up it would be nice but it's needs some work. I don't think I'd go back.
Narrow tee shots
The coarse was very hilly and narrrow openings between trees off the tee. There were no markers other than the blue, white and red stakes. The rough was There was no wind at all that day, clioudy and 75 degrees. Being late in the season hardly anyone was there, we finished in less than 4 hours. The building was very old and showed it , along with the golg carts.
Some hills I didn't think we would make ti. They were from the early 70's. It was still a good day.
Playing in your own backyard
If you are looking to play at a place where the fairways and rough are the same grass, just cut different lengths, this is your place! Similar to grass in your yard! Not worth the $30. It is absolutely awful! Greens bounce horribly. Bunkers were not existent.
Good value,but...
It was a good value but it was crowded. Two guys that did not have a tee time we're paired with me.
Nice Place
Friendly Staff, challenging for a beginner, golf cart backfired every once in a while, would go there again. I don't know how I ended up paying more than their going rate $40, I paid $50 per person plus $5 golfnow fee.
Disappointed
I had high hopes for this courses. I played other courses in the area and was very pleased with them but this one didn't measure up. This was a park district quality course with an over priced greens fee. For $40 dollars it was about &10 over priced. No cart girl, weeds in the middle of the fairway, which was basically just grass n hard dirt. Course demanded some shot shapes to navigate but just not worth the money. The best part of this course in my opinion was the fast gas golf carts. That's ashame.
Goat ranch
The only thing that was good was the $12 cost for the round. I golfed here two months ago and the course was in decent shape. Now, it's a goat ranch. Horrible condition. Poorly maintained.
The course is challenging but not kept up
The course needs a lot of maintenance around the tee bixes and greens overall the course is playable and challenging, I would definitely recommend it to my fellow golfers. You can see that back in the day this was a very upscale ciurse
good course for the money
Hickory Hills is starting to get better. the greens are the best they've been in over 25 years. it still doesn't drain well and if the course is damp or wet the conditions are sub par. but over all it's a great course for me.
Good course
The couse is nice. The ruff is high and if you hit it off the fair way kiss your ball good bye. It will be time to take a drop.
Greens are a whole lot better.
Definitely some changes going on from the previous years that I have been playing there. Changes for the better so far. I would play there more often if it continues to improve.
Great layout
Love the has continued to improve every time we play there only thing it could use is the rough cut better
