Overpriced for course conditions
I understand they don’t want to put money into the course but price is to high for playing a course where dandelions are flourishing and bunkers are full of weeds and leaves.
COURSE IN GREAT DECLINE
WITH ALL THE OTHER COURSES IN THE SAME AREA OPEN AND CARTS ARE ALLOWED, CALUMET DECDIDED TO BE WALKING ONLY WITH NO PULL CARTS. THIS COURSE WAS BUILT IN 1901 AND WAS PRIVATE FOR DECADES. I HAD A RESERVATION FOR 2 GOLFERSTHRU GOLF NOW AND NOBODY CALLED ME EVEN THOUGH MY NUMBER IN THE SYSTEM. WILL NEVER PLAY AGAIN
Can't go wrong with a Donald Ross designed course.
Very nice course but in order to access the very small public restroom, I had to go to a portion of the Clubhouse which has obviously been abandoned for some time now. it was kind of creepy and I don't creep out very easily.
A favorite
Everyone knows some of the issues this course has but it’s really a great place to play and one of the most challenging courses I go too. Yes the rough can be high but so what you aren’t supposed to be over there anyway. The staff (Chris) are friendly. The best thing about this course is the layout and design and the old school European feel amazing. If all things are perfect at any course this one would easily be in my top 5. So I will keep supporting it to help make sure it stays and get better. I brought friends from up north and they had a great time and we walked it too which was dope.
Design is challenging
Design of course was challenging overall the course was in good shape being in October greens where beat up the rough just off the green was too long . I’ll try again next summer Good luck
HOLE IN ONE
A friend in my foursome got a hole in one on 14 par 3 The course is making a plaque for him This course was built in 1901 Closing in 2024 at the end of summer They are building a Amazon mega building
Give this gem a shine
I thought the course layout was very good along with some good challenges. The main problem was that the greens on several holes are in need of repair. It appears the main club house is going to be renovated which is a good sign. I would play the course again. I wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone that is really serious about their game since putting is so crucial to scoring
Course in terrible shape
Multiple ball lost on the fringe due to high grass. The buckets are full of weeds. I can keep going so I'll just say avoid this course.
My Round at Calumet Country Club
This course use to be pristine when it was private. I had played many times then and have played it many times since. The course was in excellent shape yesterday except for the bunkers. Many of them had weeds growing out of them and had not been raked or sanded. The rest of the course was cut well, the rough, the fairways and the greens. The course has a great layout and is challenging to play. It is a great value for the money, especially if you stay out of the bunkers.
Excellent course and very well kept.
The staff was wonderful and accommodating and definitely will be back!
Needs upkeep
I drove all the way from the north side of Chicago to try this course and was very disappointed. The sand traps are full of weeds. The ruff was so tall that I lost several ball that landed next to the fairway.
Course is in great shape. Only a couple greens had some rough patches. Other than that the course is in excellent shape.
Calumet CC
So there was an outing at the course when we arrived at 12:50 for our 1:10 tee time. The guy in the golf shop said the earliest we could tee off was 2:00. He said the outing would have to end before we could play and they didn’t have any carts available. It was a sh#% show. The condition of the course was awful. It’s a disgrace what has happened to this Donald Ross design.
It's a beautiful course
A very nice layout, nice bunkering . Can use every club in your bag. Enjoyed it
Donny's Blindfold
This Donald Ross original value trek 30 minutes from downtown Chicago understands its position on the golf food chain.
The greens are shaggy and slow in serious need of compaction/aeration, some of the bunkers have turned into Audubon Bird Sanctuaries with 18-24 inch weeds more conducive to upland fowl than a golf ball, and the property needs significant tree and brush clearing with mature trees impeding on traditional lines both off the tee and on approaches from the fairway.
However, once you put on your metaphorical blindfold - the contours, land movement, well guarded undulating greens, elevation change and hummocks are all there in classic Ross fashion. For $61 I much rather play here than many of its $100+ Chicagoland counterparts.
Oh No!
