Lake Bluff Golf Club
About
Situated on Chicago's scenic North Shore, Lake Bluff Golf Club has become a "must-play" destination in the area. First opened in 1968, the course has a classic layout with front and back nines that are very different. The front nine provides a gentle start. The terrain is mostly flat and the holes are straightforward. As you move onto Lake Bluff's back nine there is more up and down and consequently the challenges are greater. Don't get too comfortable on the first half of the golf course because you'll need your wits about you for the second. Trees line the narrow fairways and the tricky greens all slope in one direction or another. Accuracy is essential. Water doesn't come into play but the doglegs and strategically placed bunkers provide plenty of challenges.

Greens were in poor shape (either they were soft from the recent rains or what). Ball marks everywhere; tufts and irregularities around the hole.
Basic Course very Basic.
Welcome to the North Shore.
With so much around Lake Bluff Illinois from great shore line views to fancy luxurious homes; you would expect the Lake Bluff Golf Course to be challenging and beautiful.
You would be mistaken.
I played with a group of 3 on a Thursday Late morning.
The ground crew was out and we were able to walk right on the tee box.
We paid $47 a piece including a cart for 18 holes.
The Tee Boxes were lush and appeared well maintained and the course length was shorter than I’m used to but we played the tips and it stretches out to around 6400 yards.
While there is nothing wrong with the course at first look, there is nothing impressive about it either. There isn’t much elevation change, significant bends, well placed bunkers, or significant mature landscape.
The trees that are there are shorter ornamental And well spaced making them not much of a hazard for the errant shot.
The grounds were marshy, which was surprising since we haven’t had rain in days. But this made it easier to tear up the fairway which you could see several had before. And there were many bog like mud patches.
The greens were fast and well maintained.
The problem comes when you get to the second, third, etc hole and they all feel the same. One in my group commented that it was like playing in a farmers field that had been converted to a golf course.
The layout and paths do not make sense. Even though everything looks the same we found ourselves often going back to the score card to figure out where we needed to head next.
Last thing I will mention, there are a lot of kids on this course during the week.
They appeared well mannered and knew how to ply but everywhere you looked there was a group of 12-16 year olds playing.
This course is “meh”
Just nothing significant enough to get me to want to come back. I was bored by 15.
Play it once to say you did it, but then find somewhere else.
Great course to play. My son was practicing for tryouts and enjoyed the course so much he wants to return . Staff was very friendly .
Disappointed
Was expecting something nicer with this course than a basic muni. Conditions were just okay and greens slow and somewhat inconsistent. Can't compare to nearby Deerfield or Deerpath.
Nicely conditioned but expensive and blah
Played on a Monday with our Golfvisions players passbook. 2nd time playing and same notes - course is is very nice shape but it's not for me. Tight from tee to greens - all greens are overly large and speedy. Your short stick and short game need to be on to score at this place. 120 slope is a little light on the rating...s/b 125ish. They were asking $57 which is far too much. It's a 35-40 value at most.....well conditioned friendly folks but the flatness and overall design just isn't inspiring....in fact there's not one hole that really stands out to me from an architecture standpoint that I have to play again and again and again. Range and practice area. Basic clubhouse no locker room. Terrain of course is pretty flat. Once a year enough for me if it's in my golf book. It's a nice play to play (not for $57 on a weekday and more on weekends) There are far too many other better values nearby that I'd rather play than recommend this course.
Rude starter
Beautiful day, nice course but terrible Starter. Never experienced a starter/ manager so rude and disrespectful. Had 8:45 tee time, are foursome was ready to go at 8:37. Stater begins by stating he has 200 people behind us and that we should hurry up an tee off. 3 holes later we are backed up waiting to tee off at box. Next hole starter comes by again rushing us to pick up the pace and states there’s women behind us and they are waiting. 2 holes later he comes by yet again . Just very rude all around,, we finished 18 hole round in 4 hours and 5 min but could not enjoy ourselves because we were constantly being harassed and rushed by starter. Hurry up and wait .
Ruff shape
Course was in poor shape and waited on every hole tp play. Course Was way over priced .
Great course!
Great course, greens were fast, but the layout was great, and everything was well maintained.
Nice course. Ok pace
decent course, nothing legendary but a good place to go play with different types of holes across the 18.
They were on pace at the start but some slower groups brought down the pace. Overall, pretty good deal.
Anything goes
Been playing here for years and this course is in shambles right now. Had a 930am tee time. They were 6 groups behind on the first tee! How does that even happen? No starter to help organize it, a literal free for fall. The round was 5.5 hours. Also, we paid in advance including carts. When we checked in were told they dont have enough carts and we would have to share(which isnt even legal right now with covid). The course is in terrible condition and somehow went up in price. Avoid this course!
Not worth the Money
Course was in decent shape.
There was a guy cutting the lawn on at least 6-7 holes we played on.
Staff also followed us around for 6 holes for NO REASON, it was very uncomfortable
