Take a cart and enjoy the beauty and nature of this course.
Based on Golf Advisor ratings, we made a weekend trip of golf courses around Rockford, IL. This was a fun course with plenty of slopes/ridges presenting a challenge in the fairways and on the green.
CONDITIONS: Despite the drought going on in Summer 2023, the course was in good shape. The greens seemed thick but maintained a good pace and, as noted, got most of their difficulty from the ridges/slopes that continuously took our ball away from the hole. The tees, fairways, and bunkers were all in good condition.
VALUE: Played on a Hot Deal, which absolutely made this course a good deal.
LAYOUT: This course winds thru the ridges and bends of some sparsely populated housing. Across both 9s you will have uphill, downhill, sidehill, and dogleg tee shots. Nothing is hidden however, and you know exactly where you should and shouldn’t go with each shot. Hole #11 has to be their signature hole, which is a par 5 down a sloped and tree lined fairway… good luck on that one! We did take a cart, and would do so again… given the hills and distance between some tee boxes, I would not consider this course to be walkable.
STAFF: The guy in the pro shop was friendly and helpful. One of the guys out cutting the fairways, was a repeated obstacle that we didn’t appreciate. Give room to players hitting… don’t park 10 yards away and stare. And maybe mow the course backwards (18 to 1) so you are not continuously running into the same golfers.
PACE: As a 2some we were behind several other groups. Though we could’ve played faster, we did finish is 3hr 45 minutes… so that’s great!
I’m glad we gave this course a chance, and if I’m in the in the area I would absolutely play it again!
Re: Mother's Day Weather Cancellation.
My Father, Mother and I planned to play a round on Mother's day. However the course was closed due to inclement weather and our round was cancelled. Unfortunately, there is no way that I can find to request a raincheck for the reservation. I assume this is by design and you value revenue over providing reasonable customer service. Knowing this I will no longer be able to support your service.
Beautiful layout
You need to hit your yardages for the doglegs! A nice challenge, and very well maintained!
Frequent the lake
Always enjoy my time playing the course . It has a series of challenging holes . Bell hole is amazing . The scenery is awesome . All new sand in the traps . Always well mantained
fun challenge
this course does not have a single flat hole making it fun and challenging. I was the only person out at noon mid week. very pretty landscape. great condition for early on in the season. will visit again soon
Fun course.
Most Tee boxes are pretty far from prior hole’s green - you won’t want to walk this course. #11 is stupid. It’s narrow and steeply slanted right to left. A perfectly straight drive will roll off the course. Assuming you can keep in on, your 2nd shot will have your ball 8 inches above your feet or a severe downhill lie. No bar/food available at 9:30am on a Sunday. Need to have some muffins or something available in the pro shop.
Excellent condition
This course was in excellent condition. Greens held, traps worked up, everything mowed great.
