Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Poorly Maintained
I recommended this course over Seven Bridges to my friends. We are avid golfers and have played all over the Midwest including some top rated Caribbean tracks. Sadly RF simply did not meet our expectations. From greens and tees in disrepair to bunkers with WEEDS GROWING ALL OVER INSIDE! Needless to say we would never go back. An email to the staff via Arcis goolf was never returned. With the number of other options in the Chicago area I would NOT waste my money on this course.
Will come back
The staff was friendly, I love having the ability to hit a few range balls before playing and the range being convenient to clubhouse and range, checkin was super easy. The layout is great. It’s fun and challenging, staff is friendly and hot dog at the turn was better than most. Played 18 in 4 hours with 4 players.
The only down mark Is condition of the course. Almost everywhere I’ve played this season that’s been a struggle though so I can’t really hold that against them.
Beautiful, but diabolical
This truly is a beautiful and challenging course. My friends and I had a very good time, but I'll wait to go back until my game improves.
Great Dye Course
Great golf course that was well maintained. Had well groomed fairways, tee boxes, and greens. I liked how they provided a yardage distance from tee to pin on par 3s. A Pete Dye course that will prove challenging, but playable for almost all golfers. Will be back.
Challenging course
Interesting course for my first time playing a full 18. All my buddies said it was hands down the most difficult course they have played. Fun time!
Poor condition
Greens were in really bad shape. Bunkers were awful; weeds growing in many of them. Just doesn’t seem like anyone’s paying attention to the poor condition parts of this course are in. Tee boxes and fairways were fine, mostly, other than a lot of random ground under repairs and holes. Too bad. Course would be really good if it were in better condition. Staff was nice. Food was good.
Slow Play
A buddy and I set up a 3:30 tee time hoping to beat the twilight crowd. Ended up waiting on every tee box for 3-5 minutes.
Made it to the 17th hole par 3 to find a group On the green, group on the tee box, and another group before us.
We ended skipping the last 2 holes because it would have taken 45-50 minutes to finish.
We love to course layout and conditions, which is why we chose it, but skipping holes instead of finishing is frustrating when a twilight rate is still $50.
Couple of other notes that the 11th hole par 3 tee box was so beat up from divots that we had to move back 5-7 feet. The tee box on 15 slopes away from your feet on a par 5 so just little things like that irk you.
A plus side was that all the par 3s were measured to the pin with yardages at the tee box.
Would have been nice to have a ranger out there pushing some groups.
Not up to par for the money
Granted it rained but the conditions of the course were very poor and for the green fees it was not worth it. I played thus course 20 years ago and it was beautiful but it has not been kept up well.
havent been back for 5year's
liked the course ,wished the gps were back they werent on the carts this time
Awesome
Just an amazing course, I cannot believe I have not played it until now. Highly recommend
A once nice course in decline
Another 90's real estate development golf course. Layout winds through multi million dollar homes..
This used to be $80-100 course.
I can see why this course fell out of favor with many golfers. Lax maintenance, like little to no sand in bunkers. Still have a gouge in my 7 iron from the rocks in the bunkers.
A Pete Dye course that could use a few design tweaks, especially on 15 &16. Don't like wildly high swamp grass creating artificial blind shots. Insanely tight lines of play. Bunkers that are not in play
It's worth playing for a good rate.
Tough getting your ball stick on the greens
This Pete Dye designed course is beautiful and challenging. The only drawback I had was due to the slanting of the greens it is very difficult to STAY on the greens. You ball just rolls and rolls off many of the greens. Good shots hitting the green end up not being good shots on many holes.
