Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Great layout challenging holes but lacking maintenance
First time at ruffled feathers. Had heard great things about this course and I was excited to finally play there. Fairways and greens were in good shape, bunkers and tee boxes not so much. Nearly every tee box had so many divots that it was hard to get good footing let alone find a place to put your tee. Tons of bunkers on the course which presents a challenge, but it’s an even harder challenge when the bunkers don’t have sand! Most of the bunkers on the course were overgrown and some didn’t have sand at all. For the price of near $100 for an afternoon tee time or over $100 for a weekend morning tee time. I feel the course is way below average for that price. For the same price you can go down the street to Cog Hill and play Ravines which is always on good shape.
Course is great.
Playing here is great, had a hole in one on #11,made my day.
Congratulations santlonard on the Hole-in-One and thank you for the amazing review!
Ruffled Feathers is the Best
I was amazed to see the negative reviews of this course. . The negative reviewers don't have a clue.
I have played most of the finest private golf courses in Chicagoland together with many of the best resort courses in America. Ruffled Feathers is a GORGEOUS golf course. Unique Pete Dye design. Its is difficult -but its just beautiful.
And they maintain it like it is a private club course. It is also a superb value compared to places like Cantigny and the Glen. .
Great afternoon .
.
I didn't post my comments last summer at about the same timeframe when I played this course, but I have to comment on this review, which can only be a plant. This course was in TERRIBLE condition. Like many said, at this price point it was by far the worst course I had ever played. I would add the design wasn't the most original, with the opening 2 holes incredibly similar, and the worst of Pete Dye, goofy golf. There were geese and their dropping EVERYWHERE on the course, and this had a huge negative effect on many of the greens.

Run Down
I was excited to play the course but was meet with rough greens, geese feces everywhere, and overall poor maintenance for the price. I won't be coming back, which is a shame, because it has a cool layout.
u314161989754, thank you for the feedback. We are always looking for ways to increase customer satisfaction and will pass your comments along to management.
Thank you santleonard for the review!
Bad Bunkers
Overall the course was good. The bunkers were AWFUL, with many of them being nothing more than dirt. Greens were in OK shape. The rest of the course was solid. I’m glad I got a “hot deal” as this kept me thinking it was worth the money. I would absolutely never pay full price for this place. It isn’t worth the $100+ they are asking on the weekend.
Thank you for the review u00000331036! We are aware of the conditions of the bunkers and hope to have good news regarding the bunkers soon.
Not being maintained as premium course
Worse greens I have experienced all summer. Pace of play was over 5 hours. Very limited rakes on course, most sand traps not maintained. This year they have combined the blue and gold tees, why. Other local course are in far better condition at a fraction of this price. If you want to consider yourself a premium course, it needs to be maintained as such
We’re sorry to hear about your experience, Michael6213720, but the feedback is appreciated. Our team will look into this. It is important that we take your feed back seriously, and will let our grounds crew know.
Course was in excellent condition, staff was tremendous, can’t be any better.
Glad to learn your experience was a positive one. Hope to see you again soon!
5 & 1/2 hours to play a round.
Course play was very slow, cart girl was out of most things, including water. No water coolers on the course. Course was in good shape and overall good design.
Thank you for the review. We will share this with the team!
Bad experience
This course has long been one of my favorite public courses in the Chicagoland area. However, my recent experience makes me not want to be back anytime soon. We played in the afternoon on 7/3. Their had been a ton of rain and we expected the course to be wet and it was in better condition than we could have thought. Our problem was the pace of play. In the afternoon over a holiday weekend I’d expect a round to take a little longer than usual. However, this was absolutely ridiculous. We ended up leaving after 14 holes because we were staring at the group in front of us waiting to tee off because the group ahead of them had just drove up to their balls. This was at the 4 hour and 15 minute mark of our round. Every single hole this seemed to be the case where we’d wait 10 minutes (at least) to hit shots. We called the clubhouse on 11 to send someone out to see why the entire course was being held up as we didn’t see a Marshall through the entire duration. They came out on 12 and seemed to just drive by without saying a word to any group. We expected this round to take a bit longer than a normal weekend but we were staring at 5.5 hour round and for $105 this seems absolutely ridiculous. The course didn’t seem to care that every group was waiting 10-15 minutes both off the tee and for their approaches.

Poor experience
Ruffled feathers has been one of my favorite public courses in the Chicagoland area for a while. However, I’m not sure if I’ll be back soon after the pace of play debacle on 7/3. My friends and I ended up leaving after we were at the 4 hour and 15 minute mark yet had only completed 14 holes. Every single shot we had to wait 5-10 minutes. On a par 3 we were sitting next to the group in front of us as they were waiting for the group in front of them to complete the hole. There wasn’t a course attendant or ranger in site. We ended up calling the clubhouse after 11 holes to explain what was going on and they didn’t seem to care much. Someone just drove around and didn’t seem to say anything to us or the group in front of us. I understand it’s a public course over a holiday weekend, but when you’re paying $105 you’d expect the course to care a little more and at least make the effort to make the round be able to be completed in a reasonable time frame.
Terrible value
Was $105 riding. Was not crowded. Went off at 10:10, original tee time was 10:24. I share this just to showcase it was not busy. Front 9 took 2:50. Was cart path only but please…No ranger pushing anyone. Day prior chicago- land had significant rain fall. Greens were thick, inconsistent and slow. Rough was so thick with huge patches that did not drain. Tee boxes were in poor shape. Clearly, they did not mow and did not care for the course that morning. For $105 was a dump. Quit after 10 as the wait on par 3 #11 was a good 20min. If I remember I’m going to call and ask for a rain check for 9 just out of principle.
New remodel on club house looks great.

Nice day on the course
Nice conditions, few spots need attention but mostly the course was in nice shape.
Hi Lbrenase, thank you so much for the review. See you soon!
A best course ever
I recently played at this awesome golf course and the course was equipped with bells and whistles in place for challenges. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making me feel like a VIP golfer. I'm already booked to play next week and counting down the days!!!
Thanks for the great review. We will share this with the team!
Very Challenging Course
Bunkers were unplayable, very disappointing. The rest of the course was very good, greens rolled nicely in spite of the aeration but won't go back until they fix the bunkers which they way will happen this year.
John9671157, thank you for the constructive criticism, and sorry we couldn’t make it a 5 star experience. We are always looking for ways to increase customer satisfaction and will pass your comments along to management.
Ruffled vs Cog Hill
Both were definite bucket list courses in the Chicago area but for less than 1/2 the price, Ruffled Feathers wins my vote. Also, at CH, the extra $8 for a bucket of balls for the range after a $200USD fee seemed a bit of a money grab. In addition to the money perspective, RF was in much better shape and the Pete Dye design was awesome to play.
Hi Fiddler71, that’s wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for leaving us a review. Hope you have an amazing day!
Thanks for the rating. We’d love to know what made your experience great!
No sand in bunkers
Honesty won’t go back until they put more sand in bunkers.
Brought my father in law to a nice course I thought.
No sand ruin the whole experience
