Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Six hour round
Waiting at every tee box is not a lot of fun. Rangers need to do their job with the four sum picking up their pace, this was five holes before our four sum.
Great golf!
Always in good shape & great staff! It may sound trivial but when everyone says hello to you & seem like they enjoy where they work it’s noticeable & enjoyable - well done!
Weekday play right under 4 hours. The bunkers HAD sand in them & were maintained which has not been the case at other area courses sadly.
Will be back to Ruffled for sure!
Hi bogey815, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed our course and the friendliness of our staff. It's great to know that you appreciated the well-maintained bunkers and the overall pace of play. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Disappointing
The course itself is a fun layout for the most part but man is it so overpriced for what you get/conditions.
No gps on carts.
Bunkers aren’t even playable, big mud pits. 4th time golfing here and each time they’ve been terrible and it’s clear they don’t work on them.
Tee boxes are par 3s are brutal but even worst are the greens…divots everywhere
If it wasn’t so expensive it would be one thing, but it’s priced as if it’s one of top courses in Chicagoland and it doesn’t seem like it is anymore.

What would Pete say?
I have played RF many times. I live 1 mile from the course. It’s a Pete Dye design. It’s a fantastic layout. However, course conditions have markedly deteriorated over the last 5 years and after my latest visit I doubt I will return. It is apparent there are no “golf people” involved in day-to-day operations - no golf pro, no course superintendent, no greens keeper. Every potential penny has been saved, every cost has been cut:
Bunkers are dreadful and there is not a rake on the course; tee boxes are a mess; cart paths are falling apart and potholed; GPS has been removed from the carts; there are no ball washers or garbage cans; clubhouse and bar are now reduced to a hot dog cart and a takeout window; bathrooms at 7 and 14 have been neglected.
Most $25 park district courses are in better shape than this. I wonder what Pete would say?
Hi u000004337640, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about your recent experience at RF. We appreciate your thoughts on the course conditions and will take them into consideration as we continue to strive for improvement. Your comments are valuable to us.
Beautiful course.
Course was amazing. Tough for a first time golfer but I will absolutely be playing it again. Staff was great, grounds were well maintained, all in all a wonderful experience.
Hi rrpcxwkKFpClN13TzL8h,
Thanks for the 5 star review! Glad you had a great time for your first time out at Ruffled Feathers. Hope to have you back out again soon!
We’re thrilled to hear you had a positive experience. Care to share any details?
rrpcxwkKFpClN13TzL8h, thanks for the rating. Care to share any details?
The course in general is very nice. The sandtraps are in need of not only sand but rakes as well. In the few instances I had to play out of a trap, it was without much actual sand and at no time was there a rake to fix any footprints or other disturbances. The cartpath is full of potholes. It feels like a once excellent course is being milked for a bit of profit and short term gain at the moment.
Hey QQUPek3Az2k3SKhOcO6e, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you found the course nice overall. We appreciate your comments about the sandtraps and cartpath, and we'll address these issues to ensure a better experience for all our guests. Thank you for your support!
Not very good
We were very disappointed in the course. Ruffled Feathers used to be a premium course around the area but not anymore. The tees and bunkers were terrible…at least the fairways were in good shape. Whomever owns this should be pumping some money into the course to have anyone play it a second time.
Hi Carl, we're sorry to hear about your experience at Ruffled Feathers. We appreciate your feedback and will definitely look into improving the conditions of the tees and bunkers. We hope you'll give us another chance to impress you in the future. Thank you for your honesty.
Bad Bunkers
I’ve played here many times through the years. For the second time this year, the course was cartpath only and I wasn’t notified until I was on the first tee. My physical abilities, make all the extra walking difficult, and the lack of information was not appreciated.
The grass on the course was in very nice shape, albeit very wet on many of the holes. The greens rolled perfectly, but the bunkers were another story. Poor drainage left many of them as lakes, and the others were mud pits with very little sand and raggedy edges.
The conditions were very much like George Dunne but at twice the price. I don’t mind spending money to play a nice golf course and I do regularly but I feel that every time I’m here there is something lacking in the overall experience.
Hi dmar11, we appreciate your detailed feedback about your recent experience at our golf course. We apologize for the lack of notification regarding cartpath only rules. Your comments about the bunkers and course conditions are duly noted and will be addressed. We value your input and hope to improve your next visit.
Money Guys/Open Your Eyes
Drinks/Golf/incidentals- spent over 700.00 here with 7 golfers. Just a sad sad shame how this beautifully designed Dye course (beautiful creative holes) is being maintained….and displaying a take it or leave it attitude. The sand traps are honestly the worst I have ever seen anywhere in my 48 years of playing golf. Rocks. Sticks. Deep standing water. Hard pack mud. Never have seen traps like this…even at local muni courses where fees are $25.00. Worst Anywhere. Ever. Cart paths are falling apart. Terrible. Clubhouse is tired and in disrepair. Makeshift grill house and small bar outside. Indoor dining and bar shut down for private baby showers. Golf/golfers obviously not their primary concern. Talked to a few people there about conditions (some employees/ some golfers) and being told ( true or not ? ) that “the money guys” who are calling the shots on this courses direction/future are not re-investing in the obvious things that need to be done. No spending going to happen. Cog Hill down the street pumping millions into their facilties “and sand traps”. Just have no spare time in my life to spend 5-6 hours at a place that doesn’t care about itself. A true one and done for me. (Last played 15-20 years ago and was a much much better experience).
Hi BrNfhJmEs8JeKdjnvCDM, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at our golf course. Your concerns are important to us and we will address them with our team to ensure improvements are made.
What a disappointment
To say that I was disappointed is actually an understatement. I’ve lived in the area for 20 years and had always wanted to try Ruffled Feathers but never had until yesterday. It was a great day for golf but there was nothing great about this place. The course itself was certainly challenging but the greens were in terrible shape, the cart paths were littered with more giant potholes than the streets of Chicago (it was brutal) and for a place with a jillion sand traps I couldn’t believe how terrible they were as well. They were more like dirt/rock/gravel traps. I know it’s early in the season as well so I tried to be fair but I’ve already golfed at several other places this season and they were all in good shape. The houses lining the course are the best thing about this place. I’d play Broken Arrow b4 this place any day of the week.
Hi u314163150568, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at Ruffled Feathers. We appreciate your detailed review and will certainly take your comments into consideration as we work to improve our course conditions.
docmuska, very sorry to see you had an unsatisfactory experience, but appreciate you taking the time to leave a review. Would you mind messaging us so that we can learn more about what we could be doing better?
Ruffled Feathers
Excellent conditions considering we were playing in off-season. Anytime you can get out in February it’s a bonus. Greens and Fairways were in excellent condition. Bunkers could use a little work.
Thank you for the rating! We will keep your comments in mind in order to improve!
Thank you for the great rating. We’d love to know what made your experience great!
Not worth the money
Found a hot deal on Golf Now for $65 per person which included the cart for 11am on a Sunday. Not bad for a $100 plus course, however, the course was in bad condition. No started, no ranger and bunkers flooded, washed out, hardened and no rakes. Course is infested with geese. Great layout but needs a head greens keeper who would make Pete Dye proud of his design instead of letting it go to crap. Pro shop said there was a cart girl out on the course but did not see her until the 9th hole. My playing partner asked, “Where have you been?” And she responded, “It’s cold out!” They should stop charging so much money and get some more play and income coming in and get this course back to the way it was in the early 2000’s!!
A course in shambles
This used to be one of my favorite tracks.
I played 7 holes in 2:20 then walked off. The bunkers have no sand. There were no Marshals. They seemed to be much more concerned about their corporate shotgun start rather than the players already on the course.
Hi algrouprc, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your round. We will address this issue with our rangers to ensure a more enjoyable pace of play for all golfers. We appreciate your input and hope to see you again soon.
