Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
About
Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport stretches across 237 acres of gently rolling hills covered with native prairie grass. The course has a links-style layout that can play much tougher depending on the wind speed that day. Overall though, the course is player friendly enough for any skill level. The layout is open with few trees and the fairways are wide and forgiving, taking away some of the intimidation provided by the bordering rough. There is also water on the golf course, but the hazards that come into play aren't overly strenuous. You can still expect some challenges from the minimal but strategically placed bunkering. Besides the golf course, Prairie Bluff is known as one of the area's hidden gems for its outstanding restaurant, which is known especially for the barbecue brisket.

Reviews
fun coarse with fast greens
course was in good shape already. quick greens. tough in the wind.
Course was in pretty good shape!
Fairways are great and greens were in good shape for a course opening after a terrible winter.
Satisfied with the price. My only concern are the players walking the course on a Saturday, it resulted
in slow pace.
Course was decent; staff however was condescending and unprofessional
The course was in good shape. The greens were VERY fast. The staff was extremely unprofessional and condescending while I was playing my round! I liked the overall layout of the course, but again would probably not go back due to the staff.
Maturing course
I had not played the course in years. It has remainded the same in many ways, but in other improved. The conditions were good on the course. Not too crowded. Pace was good. Tall fescue grass is still unforgiving. Trees have grown, but not too much. Still a great place to get 18 holes in.
very nice course; fun to play
always seems to be windy at prairie bluff
the course is in good shape
Always well maintained.
Good layout, challenging but very fair. They made some nice sand trap changes this year...well positioned. Good $30 value.
Course is very well maintained
The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because of the poor pace of play. It took us 3 hours to golf the front nine because of 2 incredibly poor 4 foursomes ahead of us, and dispite the terrible pace, the rangers had done nothing to improve the matter. Other than that, course was great
Great links style layout
Played here on a perfect golf day. The slight elevation changes make for some scenic shots, very rare for a Chicagoland course. I would suggest playing from the gold or blue tees, even for the average golfer. The course is in great condition, with a fair amount of deep green side bunkers. I will be back here again.
Decent Links style course
Ive played Prairie Bluff many times. It is a decent links style course. The course is generally in good shape, and is usually fair for the price. It is a good place to play if you can get in for a good deal. The only negative is when the wind is down, it is almost too easy for the money. However, on windy days, the course is very challenging. Greens are fast, pace is usually good. overall, I would recommend this course.
forgiving but challenging course!
very few trees, but the course makes up for that fact with rolling hills and obstructed views. forgiving course for us hackers, but still a challenge!
Links course;good fairways and greens.
The course is always maintained well. Today the ranger invited us to move around some slow players and make up the three missed holes at the end of our round, a first since we played on a PGA course. I wish they would plant trees near the greens to provide shade for mid summer players. Otherwise, it was a good experience and we agreed to return next year.
Best value in Southwest suburbs
I play this course several times every summer and it never plays the same. The wind is always a challenge and the changes they made to the bunkers and clubhouse are top notch! Very well maintained, greens are in great shape, fairways in great shape and I love the links style. This course could charge between 90 and 110 compared to other courses near it that are sub-par compared. (Ruffled Feathers, Cog Hill, Bolingbrook etc....)
Keep it up Prarie Bluff!!!!
well maintained, challenging, great value
This course presents a great value for the. Open course yet challenging. Wind can wreak havoc on most holes, but overall a course I would no doubt play again. Well maintained and in great condition even after heavy rains
english/links type of course
Well maintained course and practice areas, Golf carts are electric and well maintained as well. The key to low scores is hitting straight and staying out of the rough. Short rough is tall and takes a strong sure stroke to hit out of. Long rough is extremely difficult and almost impossible to hit out of. There is enough water and sand to make scoring even more challenging. Over all the rolling hills and layout is quite appealing. When playing remember to hit straight and when around the green stay true to your shots and don't be intimidated by traps. Traps in very good condition but usually need strong hit to even escape. I will enjoy playing again.
Fairly Easy and in good condition
Played in a threesome on a Sunday afternoon. Nice course that I would play again. Was a little slow behind a threesome of hackers
verry well maintain golf course
one of the best in the area, verry well maintain golf course, very friendly people
under 4 hours
I am not sure it is always this way but they had tons of people working and we flew around the course in under 4 hours on a friday teeing off at 11am
Spring Golf in the Midwest
This is a great golf course, that has several tees.
Spring here in the midwest all the courses are a little rough, I played 5-4-13 at 2 pm
.I play this course about 8 times during the season, so I know that it will recover from the winter. Look for the deal's on GOLF Now
Stoic view
You can't be afraid of the wind here it's always windy
Not much water but 40 percent is hidden
Greens a little bouncy but it early
Great practice range
