Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
About
Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport stretches across 237 acres of gently rolling hills covered with native prairie grass. The course has a links-style layout that can play much tougher depending on the wind speed that day. Overall though, the course is player friendly enough for any skill level. The layout is open with few trees and the fairways are wide and forgiving, taking away some of the intimidation provided by the bordering rough. There is also water on the golf course, but the hazards that come into play aren't overly strenuous. You can still expect some challenges from the minimal but strategically placed bunkering. Besides the golf course, Prairie Bluff is known as one of the area's hidden gems for its outstanding restaurant, which is known especially for the barbecue brisket.

Reviews
One of my favorite courses
I have played Prairie Bluff several times over the years. Has always been in great shape as a links course.
Slow play
5 hour round. First time there so not sure if this is common. Greens are smooth but slow. Pretty easy straightforward course.
Great course for the$$
Great condition. Greens are above average. Considering it's a park district course it plays well. Not easy either.
Fun, fair layout.
Pace was a bit slow for a benign Saturday morning.
Course was in great shape given the rain lately.
Greens ran true, a bit quicker than they looked.
If the winds were up, this course could be very difficult, since there are few trees.
Early bird
Reserve your tee time before 7am to avoid summer golf leagues. Otherwise,be prepared to tee off around 12 noon.
Good course in excellent condition...
COURSE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE
HAVEN'T PLAYED THIS COURSE IN YEARS. iT WAS
IN GREAT SHAPE AND WAS A VERY ENJOYABLE
DAY. i WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COURSE
nice shape
course is well taken care of.
staff was nice.
overall a good experience.
Nice but windy
Like this course it's forgiven but you must battle the wind also. Can't beat the price we paid. Links style course with many obstacles. Will return again this year greens need a little work.
Course drains better than most
Played on very wet, windy day. Greens were still very good, no standing water after moderate rain even during the round. Fairways were wet, but drain better than some. I've played this course a lot and conditions are generally good. Very playable course.
Great Course for All Skill Levels
This is the first time I have played here this year. The fairways and rough are in outstanding condition. The greens need work. The greens on the front 9 were in rough shape. The back was better, but still need work. Overall the course is worth playing. I'm sure I'm a month or so, the greens will be in great shape.
Links Style
I am pretty sure PB is considered a Links style course which played perfectly yesterday. Rarely did we have to deal with looking for balls around fallen leaves. Again, weather, perfect. And with the location of the course, it was extremely quiet. No airplanes, no traffic noises. Just wide open and the conversation with the group and others around us. Had an early tee time but had to deal with a short frost delay. Despite that, still very little waiting. Nice to have rangers moving the slow play along and just reminding us and others to keep pace. Underrated service in my opinion but all Rangers were very respectful unlike other places Ive played this season. Make the trip and play PB. Ill be back next season for sure.
Challenging but fun
Challenging course, very windy and fast greens. Course can be tough but can also be rewarding, very open
Always a favorite
I love the layout, the scenic beauty and the lack of leaves in the fall. I prefer walking with a push cart and PB is an easy walk. There is plenty of risk and reward for the better player and lots of room to err for the high index player. Greens were fast and true. My only complaint with Prairie Bluff is their outings that are usually not policed. We had to skip to the back 9 and come back and finish the front because an outing of about 7 groups brought the course to a standstill. Playing a scramble, they were never ready with one hitting and the other three talking around their carts seemingly more interested in what they were drinking than what they were shooting. A nudge from a ranger would have been nice.
That's said, it is always one of my favorite courses to play. On days when I am playing well I can challenge bunkers and water but on days when I don't have my A game there are plenty of safe areas to play to.
A fun and interesting course.
I have played this course several times this year and always enjoy myself. First, it was in great condition. Second, it is not particularly difficult but fair and fun. It can get tougher when the wind is howling. Third, the starter and rangers are sociable and friendly.
Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.
Fall golf
Saturday Sept 13,was paired up with 3 good guys I didn't know. The course was in terrific shape, although the greens were a bit bumpy due to recent aeration. Cool and very little wind made it idea conditions. Had a great time, play fairly well?? Will come back again soon! Tom D.
U.S. Open length rough
I play this course 2-3 times a year and have never seen rough this thick and long. Pair that with the patches of fescue grass and it makes it very challanging to find a wayward drive. Our group lost more than a few balls that were just a few feet off the fairway, burried in the deep rough.
Prairie Bluff
The grounds crew at this course did a magnificent job, for a public course it is in impecable shape. Kudos to the ground crew. The rangers are a bit bothersome.
