Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
About
Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport stretches across 237 acres of gently rolling hills covered with native prairie grass. The course has a links-style layout that can play much tougher depending on the wind speed that day. Overall though, the course is player friendly enough for any skill level. The layout is open with few trees and the fairways are wide and forgiving, taking away some of the intimidation provided by the bordering rough. There is also water on the golf course, but the hazards that come into play aren't overly strenuous. You can still expect some challenges from the minimal but strategically placed bunkering. Besides the golf course, Prairie Bluff is known as one of the area's hidden gems for its outstanding restaurant, which is known especially for the barbecue brisket.

Reviews
Great upkeep
This course is always in amazing condition, especially being a park district course! Cozy bar/grill with darn good food. A little bit difficult to get to from chicago. But well worth the ride!!
Nice course
Great year for golf, conditions still good this late in the year, greens are pretty flat, malleable putts from anywhere!
Nice course with fast greens!
The course was in decent shape, although is was very wet which we couldn't figure out why because it hadn't rained in several days. Its was windy the day we played so the greens dried out quickly and became very fast which i prefer so it worked out well for me. The course is not super tough as long as you stay on the short grass, if your in the rough a lot off the tee then it could make for a tough round. The driving range is decent, although it was mats only the day we played, they do have a chipping area and a very nice putting green as well. Pace of play was excellent, we finished in 4 hours.
Good course poor management of pace of play
We were 2 paired with another 2 ball all riding carts. We were told by the starter the pace is 2 hours and will be enforced by the on course rangers. We waited on every shot starting on the 2nd tee. Played the front 9 in 2:10. Not too bad considering. Back 9 was 2:25. Not good. We talked to 2 different rangers multiple times and were told they would talk to the group in front. Nothing ever improved.
I really like this course and the in shop staff however the rangers need to enforce pace of play.
Excellent course, superior facilities, great value
A good links layout in very good condition overall. Comparable to Bolingbrook Country Club at less than half the price. Quite similar to Santuary Golf Course in style, condition and value. Clubhouse/bar & grill was also superior. Real menu, real kitchen serving real food, not frozen junk that's deep fried. All in all an excellent value and overall golf experience.
Fall golf
It's links course has minimum number of trees so not tomany leaves was great to play there
I want a recommend this course.
First tme play here I supprised the course.it's amazing grass condition.and fairway.very challenger this course.hopefully I recommend every body.I was play lot a course but here is best memory.
Course Ranger not very good
Played first 9 holes in 1 hour 40 minutes and was harassed by the course ranger to speed up. After waiting for mower to clear green rager said we were holding up foursome in back of us.
Must play course
Staff is always friendly. We teed off at 7:02 a.m. we were done 10:22. I have played this course many times always in great shape.Rangers do a great job.
great price
last minute had a great price on a very good course
Well maintained
Not a weed on the course
A bit wide open so if it's windy you must hit solid shots
Great Course
This is one of my favorite courses to play in the south suburbs. The course is well maintained. With the exception of one gentleman, the staff is very friendly. The pace of play is average. Finding a good deal online just sweetens the deal. Love me some Prairie Bluff.
Grumpy ranger
Nice layout, well maintained but very slow greens--and not all greens the same speed. Course is very good bargain when you get a Hot Deal. Staff in pro shop and starter very friendly but the roving ranger was grumpy, almost hostile.
He approached the 2some we were paired with, and what should have been a friendly and pleasant reminder to keep pace was instead an angry badgering 3rd degree that started with "did the starter explain the rules of the course to you?". The 2 young men were intimidated and uncertain how to respond; was he trying to get the starter in trouble or did we anything wrong? When asked what he meant he seemed to grow angrier and just repeated his original question, only louder!
Golfers who commit to spend the next 4 hours of their time at a golf course are generally expecting a good time--Ranger Grumpy should be told that it's part of his job to facilitate that.
Very Good
The actual conditions of the course in terms of fairways, bunkers, tee boxes and greens was excellent. Since there was no option to rate the speed of greens, I knocked off a star in the Course Conditions section. The greens were a bit slow in my opinion, and could be quicker considering the cooler weather and no fear of heat stress/burn out.
Challenging and fun
The course was in great condition even being slightly wet. Very friendly staff, made sure you kept play going at a steady pace. Rangers making sure groups did for fall behind to cause long delays!! Awesome concept, wish more courses would follow suit!!
Enjoyed the course layout, and had a great day golfing.
Stayed for food and drinks after our round, don't leave the course without stopping by their restaurant. Great food selection and cold beverages.
Great Track
I had not played this course in several years. I will now make it a point to get back there. The staff was great and the course was in great shape. I mean, even with almost 4 inches of rain in the previous 48 hours and we played rough only with the carts, it was great.
Worth the money
I have been playing Prarie Bluff for a couple years and my most recent round was one of the best. The course is in amazing condition, they recently raised their prices but I now know why. Everything is in perfect condition, there are actual rangers on the course and every other hole one will come by to see how you are doing, it's great.
Hidden Gem
I played this course a few years ago and wanted to come back. I read reviews about pace of play and was scared. I played 18 the last time in 3 hours. This time 18 took 3 1/2. We were the only ones on the course. The tee boxes and fairways were immaculate. We recently had a ridiculous amount of rain and there was NO water anywhere to be seen. Great drainage! The greens were in good shape, not furry, held pretty well and were true. This is not a difficult course, very fair. I suggest blue or back tees for better or very good golfers. We played on a Sunday at 330, discounted rate, and the price was fantastic for this kind of course that looked and played this well ($42).
This course is a must play!!
The course was in great shap and the staff was great!!!
Beautiful course that plays great!
This was my first time playing the course. I have looked at it driving by, but it's beauty is hidden within. The course plays really well and is maintained very well. I recommend 18!
