Big Run Golf Club

Big Run is a pleasure to play and is one of the most unique courses in Chicagoland. There are meaningful elevation changes on 9 of the 18 holes that make you really think about your shots. There are a number of "you don't see holes like this anymore" moments and it makes for a memorable round. Conditioning could be better but it is not problematic.

Great layout... Used to be a course one would love to play. Except for the greens, this course has not been maintained at all. The cart paths where they appear, are in shambles. The poorly maintained rough is safer than the cart paths. The signs say drive carts on the rough! A few bridges on a creek that runs across the course look very unsafe. This course if not repaired should be shut down!

Service was rude from the get-go. Waited for pro shop guy to check me in while he was taking a smoke break and then told us to tee-off when we were fully aware of our tee time (course was empty)...all the while my partner was waiting to purchase drinks from "carry-out" and no one assisted after ringing the bell for several minutes so he eventually left. The condition of the course indicates that ley have let it deteriorate. Fairways were beat up and it doesn't look like they spray for weeds anywhere. My partner stepped in a 2 foot crater hole just off the 12th green and sprained his ankle. For the price, course and service should be much better.

Got out Saturday at 6:30 am. Groups ahead of us got out early. On the 4th hole ranger told us to pick up the pace , that we weren’t on the group that started a half hour earlier. 4some behind us was a hole and a half behind us. Looked at the time and we were on pause for a 4 hour round. Apparently that wasn’t good enough . Very rude and ignorant staff . Play there every year for my birthday golf round. Doubt I’ll ever go back !!!

I played the senior tees at just under 6200 yards the white tees are 6700. Most second or third shots are up hill . So trying to hit these greens with hybrids or long irons is tough. I break 80 on most courses and was happy with an 89 here. It’s so tough! Greens are ok respective but on the slow side. Tee boxes most raised as are the greens fairways were ok grass i little long you really need some roll here. It was designed with help from Sam Snead so you can imagine the tough bends and uphill shots. If it was a bit more manicured you could have a pro tournament here not kindling you have to try it it will humble you lol

We play this course almost every summer. Layout is great, big, open, and very scenic. We noticed the maintenance lacking this summer. Overgrown rough which was too long, but also had a lot of clover growing so it was really hard to find your ball. I lost a couple balls that day that were simply in the rough a couple yards away from the fairway. There were patches of fairway and greens that were bare, but not many spots. Some of the fairway bunkers were mud pits, but all the ones around the greens were in good shape. Just wish it was better maintained.

The course has been outstanding for so long and is now looking a little beat up. Hopefully they can make it beautiful again.

Beautiful course with mature trees all around. Hilly terrain and challenging greens make this a very challenging but fair course.
