Big Run Challenge
Course upkeep has improved. Course layout provides a nice challenge. Club amenities and cart paths need work. Overall enjoyed my round and recommend.this course.
Nice old school course
Big run is one of the hardest courses I play.. It has many uphill shots and several forced carries so you have to know your distance of each club to score here. The fair ways are pretty thick so not much roll. So play then correct set of tees the white tees are about 6100 but play more like 6,500 due to the hills. Greens are receptive but you still need to hit them. Pace of play is always an issue here due to level of difficulty so expect a longer day. I like this course but prefer to play on weekdays when you can finish in about 4 hrs
Big Run slow play
Big run has a great layout and is very challenging.
It has many hills and raised greens that are difficult to hit. I enjoy the scenery lots of trees and nice views due to the hilly terrain. The greens are true and in good shape just a little slow they need to be rolled to have correct speed. My one issue with. This course is the slow play over 5 hrs On a nice day. I will avoid this course most weekends. During the week the regular player are good about letting you play through.
Good place
Better change the name to big humble
Cause that’s what this course will do to you
Big Bad Run
Been playing here since late 1970’s. Always one of my absolute favorite layouts. Just a great challenge. Bring you A game tee to green.
Had been sad to see such a gem slowly deteriorating over the past 20+ years. Finally I hear new owners (Citgo?) and you can see money going back into the course and clubhouse. The course has a ways to go, but the bunkers that have been fixed, for instance, are great.
Green are slow, as always , but really pretty smooth and still not easy even at this speed.
Keep it up.
Played in 3:20, great, but I would like to see more business so they keep the improvements going.
Suggestion: cut the greens a little lower. We can handle it, really.
Slow pace
Great course. Played Big Run since 1980. Slow pace 5 hours.
Challenging and full of hills
Everything was above average except for the cart paths which need some work in places.
Difficult course becasue it plays very long. At 6700 yeards it makes it very tough to reach greens in regulations for average distance players.
It's a challenging course because it's very long and features plenty of trees. At 6700 yards from the Blue tees, it makes it very tough to reach the greens in regulation for average distance players
Arizona golfer
Had not played the course in over 50 years. Great layout. Excellent greens. Fairways acceptable. Rough fine. Guy in shop was excellent. Overall, great test for good sticks. Probably too hard for beginners and folks that only play occasionally. Cardiac hill (18) is a beast.. I recommend it.
Big Run has aged
Have always enjoyed Big Run G.C. but it is not aging well. It is a difficult course, that used to be beautiful but is now showing its age due to poor maintenance. Greens were in good shape albeit a bit too long. Fairways are decent. The rough is a mix of weeds and grass. Green side Bunkers are quite firm with not enough sand. Several fairway bunkers were overrun with weeds. Wooden bridges are patched with plywood and long overdue for replacement. I can only assume Big Run will soon be redeveloped as residential homes given the lack of care. Too bad, it used to be beautifully landscaped and a pleasure to play.
Great place to golf
Great public golf club in general. Staff is great, the clubhouse/bar has a great vibe. It’s got no frills and it’s down to earth.
The course is well kept in-spite being busy place, pace of play was good and course itself is challenging without being unbearably hard.
