Greens were slow but understandable with heat. Rough a little high .
Big Run Review
VERY confusing getting to clubhouse. Needs more direction signage from the street. Also, course needs more directing signs between holes. We got lost at least twice going to the next hole.
Very tough course
Came here for the first time feeling excited after looking at the course. Man is this course difficult, I sit around an 8 handicap and today I shot 16 over thru 18. The terrain makes it nearly impossible to hit off of an even lie- and the pin placement made some putts feel impossible. Be ready for a challenging today & maybe I suggest moving up to the closer tees. Some fairways were dried up & the rough made it hard to find your ball. One thing I’d compliment is the greens, they were in great shape. Pace of play was solid as well.
Bad
Horrible. They didn’t cut rough grass for many days. Tall weeds in the fairway? Just bad, almost like they gave up trying. Years ago this course used to be good too.
Once Great course, Now not so much
The conditions here are terrible. The only saving grace is the layout. With two 600yard holes it can be very treacherous. I have been coming here for 20 years. Rumors of the course selling for the last 5-10
years have been unfounded. Whatever the issues are the fairways are burned out, No difference between fairway and rough in many areas. This course in it's well manicured state was right up there with Dubsdread. Greenskeeper turnover and lack of capital have left it as an also ran course. I would gladly pay $50-75 for this course if it was maintained properly.
Plush and challenging greens!
I love this course! So much that I went back today and plan to return tomorrow. The layout is great, perhaps tight in some places but each hole is unique. The greens are fantastic compared to nearby Cog Hill. It is like walking on a cloud and each is challenging. If you cannot get air under your ball, this is not the course for you. The staff is friendly and they surpassed my expectations. You can golf at other nearby places but they do not compare to this place and you get a better value here. While some of the bridges and cart paths may be in need of some TLC, it is a small price to pay for the beautiful scenery. The are only two holes adjacent to a local street. This course has one of the most challenging Par 5 holes (#9) I ever played being over 600 yards. I highly recommend this course!
Big Run
Second cut was terrible spent more time looking for balls then enjoying the course.
Big Fun
Played yesterday, course is in much better shape than a couple reviewers claim. $42 weekday price for seniors is a great deal for one of the best looking and most unique courses in the Chicago area.
Great course!
This course is a hidden gem (it shouldn’t be) w it’s classic layout of trees and exceptional undulations. The upkeep and pace of play is great.
Tee boxes made for all levels of skill, but don’t take this course for granted, it will challenge
the best golfers, I guarantee that!
The staff is great and the bar is very friendly.
I highly recommend eating the weekend bbq of burgers and dogs!
