Costly
Course was rough and dried out. Greens needed a little help.
Bad
For $70 per round you don’t expect the fairway bunkers to be full of weeds. The condition of the fairways was mediocre at best. The greens were very slow.
It’s a shame because the course layout is super picturesque with rolling hills and elevation changes. A lot of the holes are really good looking from the tee box and the right amount of water is in play.
The real kicker though was they shut the food window before 4:30. We teed off at 2pm on a busy Sunday afternoon and the grill window was shut when we made the turn. We had to go into the bar to get the food which took 15 minutes and another 5-8 minutes to settle up.. We were 4 grown men in or approaching our 40’s so a hot dog literally takes 30 seconds to eat once it is in our hands. Eventually we made the turn only to met with a ranger complaining about the pace of play and complaining that we did not eat on the move.. Well, we were not the ones who closed the food window.
Also the bar area and restrooms were straight out of the 60’s with no recent updates.
For $70 would not recommend. Much better options available for this price.
Big rundown
Layout is straight forward overall but the trees and hilly terrain make it fairly challenging. The amenities of the course are in need of upgrading such as cartpaths, ballwashers, and on-course porto-pottys. Many of the sandtraps are in very poor condition. No driving range for warmups.
Great course bad service
Love the course but the one guy at the pro shop is never pleasant dealing with. Always seems like if do a hot deal there he acts as if you are playing the course for free. Made me wait 45 minutes this morning to go out because my tee time was at 7:20. Course was wide open and I could have had a quick solo round instead I was forced to share a cart with a random and play behind another group. Had an experience where he was rude a long time ago but I was a little late (10 minutes before tee time) so I figured it was because of that. After this I'm convinced he is always like that. Otherwise this course is awesome and I highly recommend it. Good shape, fun track, great food.

Excellent Customer Service and the course is absolutely tough and awesome!!
First timer
I’ve driven by this course multiple times and said one day I’m gonna play this course. When I finally did I was a little disappointed. The fairways had so many weeds in it and very little grass, the rough the same. The big thing that disturbed me the most was I couldn’t find any yardage markers in the fairway, my GPS pinfinder didn’t work. I honestly don’t know if I ever come back to big run golf course. I played a lot of golf and played in a lot of tournaments in my life and I’ve never seen a golf course with such a reputation with all these weeds in the fairways, the rough and around the bunkers. I would give my experience a three star at five! 2 handicapper

Hidden Gem! This course is as tough and long as they come!
Big Run big challenge
The course has great elevation changes. Par 5are monsters. The greens could be a little faster(couldn’t tell the last time they were cut). The cups didn’t look like they were changed in a few days. Overall a great course to play. Challenging course fun to play would highly recommend this course. Will be back.
I will always recommend and defend this course
I've been playing Big Run since 1979. Scroll through and read my numerous reviews below. Big Run is a gem. People come from the city and complain about green speeds. They don't realize that if the greens were any faster they'd 3 putt more than half of them....and then they'd complain even more. No practice facility? Hit some in the nets to warm up you spoiled child. Sure it's rough around the edges in places with some issues. It has an aged sprinkler system and course conditions change from year to year.....that's the BEAUTY of Big Run. It's been in pretty good shape this season...more so than last floggers. Pace of play issues...you're playing at wrong time of day and remember most people can't handle the white tees let alone the back orange tees here anyway (even you...you spoiled child). I recommend the green tees.....still a 133 SLOPE!! From the greens all four of the Par 5's become fun versus double bogey plus slogs for most. Enjoy the spectacular layout & excellent challenges for 5 hours.....the best public old school clubhouse/bar/locker room with showers and now patio area with TV to quench your thirst post round. 4 stars every time I tee it up at Big Bad Run. Quit your complaining about this place it's ridiculous. Course may not be around much longer.....and guess what? You'll be the first one to say.....wow I miss Big Run.....they just don't make em like that anymore.......
Awesome design and layout
This is a well designed course with lots of elevation changes, that present lots of different shots that usually in this area.
It is not designed for walkers, so if you decide to hoof it, be prepared. Lots of hills to climb and climb back down, lastly being the 18th.
