Big Run needs Big repairs
Have played Big Run many times in the past. The course used to be kept up really nice and was always in good shape. Not anymore. Not sure what the grass is in the fairway, but it is not grass. Fringe off the greens is so tore up you can’t putt. Course still has some holes that look good, but overall is in terrible condition..
Every once in a while...
I like to come out here every once in a while just for the challenge and keeping my distances in check.. this is by no means an easy course but the conditions definitely don't make it any easier. The elevation change is what keeps me coming back despite my gripes with the dead grass and constant clovers/weeds.. pretty much the only reason to play here and the only reason I ever recommend it to anyone. Whenever I book a round here I always brace myself for at least 5+ hours because it gets so brutally slow and it's impossible for them to control.
I keep hearing this place used to be super nice back in the day. The course definitely needs attention but would totally need to shut down operations for over a year to make it worth the money again. I couldn't imagine playing here regularly and I am so thankful my home course is not like this one. But despite my gripes it will not keep me from coming back here every once in a while...
Challenging course
Very Challenging course. They need a mid day rat, on the weekends. It is $70 until 3pm, then goes down to $45. Takes about 4.5-5 hours to get through. hard to do if you start at 3pm. Fairways need some work. I will go back
Honest review
Greens are in great shape. That's about all that was taken care of. Most fairways were weeds, all the rough was weeds. They sell the tee times too close together. I understand it's a business but how much will you make if I don't go back ? This was a nice course back in the day but now it's not being cared for as it should.
Park District Worthy Course Conditions (if that).
This is legitimately the only time I’ve reviewed anything. I am disappointed that it is a negative review about a golf course, but I hope this review helps out anyone that has hope for this course and is considering it for a weekend round.
The title of this review speaks for itself; fairways are practically non-existent and are full of concrete-like dirt and dead grass. Even if you have a nice shot off the tee, forget trying to hit a clean fairway shot as you’ll have to pick it clean as if you were hitting out of a fairway bunker. Greens were spongy, tee boxes were beat up, and the small encounter that we had with the course staff was unenthusiastic. $70 for this course is about $40 too much. Save your money and play a course like Arrowhead or Klein Creek.
Say goodbye to an old friend!
Played here for the first time in 5 years. I was unaware of the conditions, apparently due to an imminent sale of the property.
What a shame to see such a beautifully maintained course left to weed/clover. Greens are soft and long, tinted green for some reason and so slow it's almost a joke.
Minimal attention is being given, there are dead trees all over and it feels like a depressing movie.
Sorry to see it go but in my opinion - already GONE!
So long Old Friend!
This course used to be fantastic
One can see this course has been up for sale for a few years. Surprisingly the bunkers were in fantastic shape. The fairways, however, haven't had a weed control treatment for years.
Great layout
Bad tee boxes
Horrible fairways
Slow greens
No cart girls
Great place
Great course layout is awesome lots of elevation changes. The lack of a driving range is the big downfall and lack of beverage cart due to some of the hills the cart can’t make it up. Otherwise this is a top 10 for me
Fun course but impossible to find ball off the fairway
This was my second time playing this course. It is a pretty course with many rolling hills and elevated tee boxes. Morning hours are tough due to the sun in your eyes. The course overall is maintained well, but if you miss the fairway, you will spend a lot of time finding your ball. The rough is well maintained but I always have difficulty finding my ball even a few feet off the fairway. The ball just disappears.
