A nice course in the midwest
I have played here three times already and every time I played you can see how they really take care of the course, fairway and green are in good shape.
golfing in march
I like the layout of the course and love that almost in every hole i get to use my driver
Tour course
If you're looking for a golf course that has all the characteristics of a tour course in the Chicago area, Big Run is it. The layout of the land has severe slopes from fairways to greens. Fairways are also lined with mature oak trees; there are doglegs from both sides and run outs beneath thick branches of the trees all over the course. The course is worth the price and drive just to experience a course like this that's unlike any other course in the Chicagoland area.
Big Run
Very challenging. Some really great holes make this course very fun. Big Hills. Creating par 3's. 605 yard par 5 is such a hard hole.
If they updated the clubhouse they would have a heck of a bar and restaurant..
A gem of a course tucked in Lockport. It's a beautiful property, that's for sure.
Great course but the staff is terrible
We booked 3 players through GolfNow and the 4 spot of that tee time was book by a single - we had asked the gentlemen working if we can go off as just us 3 and that didn't go over well. We got into an argument with him over the fact that he "doesn't make profit from a GolfNow tee time." Heaven for bid if he sent an extra cart out that was going to cost them SO MUCH - NOT! Not a fan of the people there and either way I was a paying customer. With what happened you will not find me back at that course.
Good, challenging course, but...
I really like this course but the staff has to stop putting the pins in too difficult of locations. The greens are already tough enough! The course is very long and the greens are multi-tiered with a ton of slope to them. Cut us some slack and keep the pins in scoring locations. If you host a tournament then you can have your fun putting the pins in the middle of the screaming slopes or on the edge of a tier.
Lots and lots of hills
Almost every hole involves hitting from an elevated tee box with almost every approach uphill to an elevated green. Keeping the ball in the middle of the fairway is at a premium since anything else and the many trees on the course blocks your shot. The course is in great shape. A lot of tight lies. The greens are very challenging with multilevel. Ball placements on approached are important. The par 3's on the course really stand out and are some of the most fun I've played.
Great Track That's Near Impossible to Score Great On
I absolutely loved this course, its surroundings, the layout and the quality in which its kept. It is one of the most fascinating courses I've been on in Illinois but it's so long and narrow it becomes incredibly tough to score on. These are the most difficult group on long par 4's I've seen and the 5's were 600+ yards. While I shoot high 80's normally, I'm usually good for 6 pars in a round but here in enjoyed 13 bogies and 5 doubles for a 95. The challenge this presents and the quality of the course will bring me back again.
This is a must play course for sure.
Long course but great
Its one of better courses in this area, the fairways are clean, and the greens were perfect. Its worth playing again.
Big Run
This course is a challenge for the weekly golfer. Lots of trouble waits . Rough not penal. Bunkers need sand. Fairways a little long. Greens big but very undulating. 5 hrs for Sunday aft round. Always worth the trip though.
Big Run
I love this course with mature trees long fairways it is just beautiful
Value was not there
The course conditions were terrible for $70. Every tee box was cut up pretty badly. The approach around the greens were very pitted, especially the back 9. It was 90 degrees and very humid and no drink cart riding the course. I love the layout of the course and it is very challenging. its the maintenance and amenities that are lacking here. the course staff wasn't terrible but i didn't see a single smile the whole round. Never felt like my foursome was wanted there. Bottom line is this course isn't worth full price. 1/2 maybe but not $70.
Great layout
I think this is one of the best layouts in Chicago. There are a lot of elevated greens that can be undulating, very sloped and multiple tiers. There are a couple of 600 yard par fives a couple of par threes that can play 200 + and oh ya a lot of trees. You will hear the echo of balls hitting tree trunks followed by the moans of the aggravated golfer throughout the course. This course can tear up low and high handicappers if you don't stay out of the trees. My biggest problem with the course is the lack of sand in the bunkers, it's tough to hit a bunker shot with only a 1/4 inch of sand with rocks. If you haven't played here yet I suggest giving it a go it really is a great test of your game.
Love the terain
Very scenic, up hill down hill really enjoyed playing the different hole. Chicago is usually very flat this course is everything but flat. Lot of fun
Pace of Play
Love this course and the challenge it provides - however don't love five and a half our rounds!
Big Fun
Course was in excellent condition, even though it rained the night before. would play and recommend this course. Great Track !
Big Run BIG Value
I took advantage of a Golf Now Hot Deal and it was well worth it.
Beautiful holes well maintained though greens are slower than what I am used to.
Average Round
In all fairness there is nothing wrong with this course other than their dirt bunkers. As usual staff friendliness is dependent on what you pay. We scored a hot deal so upon checking in we were given a cart key and told to have a nice day. Not rude but no hospitality at all for two people that have never experienced the course before. First few holes remind me of my least favorite course so I started with a bad taste. Greens were fairly slow but rolled true. Course didn't play as long as I thought it would from the orange tees.
The course is fair. Nothing memorable. Nothing worth more than the hot deal we paid to play it. If I were in the area I'd play it again but for me it's not worth the drive from the city.
Challenging course
This is a very tough course with lots of elevation changes and trees. The sand was like hitting off concrete. No beverage cart but they did have ice cold water and vending machines on the course. The greens are tricky. You need to be on the right level or else three putting is inevitable. Most greens are two or three tiered. They changed the ratings from last year and if I would have known I probably would have played from the green tees. I played from the whites and shot the same score I did last year. Will I play here again? Maybe but only if my game improves.
This is a challenge
First time playing the course.
Very challenging for four guys
that don't play a whole let of golf.
The 9th and 18th holes are very long,
but the 18th is a great way to finish.
