Friday Greens
Great course with a slope of 142. Most holes have elevated tee boxes and very little out of bounds so the course is geared towards the big hitter. Multileveled greens and Friday pin placement make for an interesting day with the putter.
"BIG RUN" "BIG GUNS"
I have played this course one time in 2014, I shot the worst score ever. Most of the tee boxes are elevated, I was clipping the tree crowns ending up in a poor 2nd shot position. This past experience was Awesome! If I lived closer to this course I would make it a weekly must. "Great Couse" "Great Food" I'll be back!
Great layout, bunkers need work and staff needs a lesson in customer service
Course is really fun and tough, but sand has a lot of rocks.
The pro shop workers need to take a class in customer service. Prob won't be back do to my experience with them.
Stay Away
The course was in poor shape and very gimmicky. The rough was patchy and ground far too hard
There was a three group backup on a par three on the back nine
Big Run
Tough course as it has been through the years. Course was in great shape. Was able to find ball in rough, when not in fairway. Pace of play in the past has been horrendous, but today never had to stop until the 16th to let a twosome play thru.
Clubhouse is a little run down. Took a little bit of time to get service after round for lunch, but after that service and food were fine. I suggest getting out as early as you can. For tough courses, it can get backed up later in the day.
Uphill again?
The course is hilly, with plenty of trees to force you to play smart. Hit not the trees and you're best off taking your medicine and hitting back to the fairway. The greens are strongly sloped and a little slow. that is a blessing, for if the greens were fast, there would be some impossible greens to putt. As it is, stay below the hole. Many holesplay to an elevated green, such that you don't see the bottom of the pin. Usually you should take an extra club for the distance.
Still a Fav course
This is a favorite course of mine. It's always tough.
Challenging but exceptional course
Great golf course. Nearly all greens elevated unlike most of the courses in Chicago. Greens can be brutally tough (11 was unplayable above the hole. Impossible to keep it on the green if you are on wrong tier). Except for that one hole the rest were tough but fair. I'm a 7 handicap and this is one of my favorite courses in the area. You will feel exhausted after the round. Mentally challenging with many hilly lies. Plays like the Robert Trent Jones golf trail.
Great Value, Great Course
Great course layout and well maintain, enjoyed all 18 holes very much! Lots of elevation change which is unusual for courses in this area makes play fun and challenging. One of the coolest par 3's I have ever played (13th hole) at 225 yards from the tips over water from an elevated tee.
Beautiful, challenging and fun!
BIG BAD RUN
Course is in great shape and very lush. Rough is tough to get out of and the fairways aren't rolling much as summertime because of the grass length. Do yourself a favor and play the green tees at 6200 yards versus white tee 6700 yards. You'll have much more fun and it's still plenty of challenge (133 slope from green tees). I love Big Run but will only give it four stars because there are several places where your ball is in the fairway and tree branches block you out from a normal approach. There are a few trees or branches I'd cut down to improve playability. Folks are very nice there and extremely welcoming. Our group enjoyed our day and thanks to the weather forecasters predicting rain all morning we were virtually the only ones there. Always an honor to get out to Big Run.
A Course That you have to try at least once
It is an extremely challenging layout. Warning, don't try to walk it unless you are in good shape.
BIG FUN
Big Run is probably one of the top three courses for me in the Chicago south area.
It is challenging yet fair with plenty of slopes which adds to the fun of every shot.
The condition is always in great shape from tees to greens, and the layout is phenominal.
The only thing that needs improvement are the cart paths which might jar a few teeth while riding in the suspensionless carts.
Walking would be a marathon like achievement and a real accomplishment that would accentuate the entire experience.
This is one course that I would never get tired of playing though.

Awesome course.. Have played it many of times..
One of my favorites. Course in good shape for so early in year. Probably the hardest course on south side of Chicago. Need to update yardage plates in fairways. If you think your a really awesome player challenge yourself and head out to Big Run.. You will not be disappointed
this course will teach you a lesson
big Run is an old golf course in Chicagoland that makes you feel like you're in a much more rugged area of the country. its ports some beautiful scenery teeing off from hi a top many cliffs. many challenging holes and long par fives.if you need to know anything more about how tough this course can be go online and check out the 9th hole that's all that needs to be said. the 18th hole is nicknamed heart attack Hill and if you're walking it good luck.
Fun course nice greens
I enjoyed the course a real test with many tough shots uphill down hill and bending left and right so bring your A- game and enjoy the wonderful lay-out that will keep you comming back.
I just wish it was a bit cheaper at $40.00 its at the top of my budget.
maybe ok for you, never again for me
This course is extremely difficult due to the constant elevation changes making it play a lot longer than the stated yardages. I have played this course between 5 and 10 times over the years and every time at the end, it feels like I've been beat up. Some of the par 5s should be considered par 6s...600 yards from the white tees is, well it is what it is. Some of the par 4s should be par 5s. A couple of the greens are unfairly sloped. Overall, the course just seems gimmicky.
On the day I played, there was no water available out on the course.
first and my last one
late star , fisrt they tell us 20 min behind then 30 min and then was like 1 hour and 30 min that was a joke!!!! because group of people, they give them preference because they was "members" frustated time!!! sorry but is the true!!
Early Spring
Course in great condition for early spring. Two greens still closed, but course plated great.
Should be called Big Bumps
STAY OFF THE CART PATH! Unless you want back problems and damaged clubs. The path here is the golf cart equivalent to the Rubicon Trail. I sincerely hope they either demolish it, or put some money into it.
The course is great. It's long, challenging, and very scenic. I always like playing here.
Poor Customer Service
I was not contacted regarding the frost delay. Drove from Chicago. Young man behind the desk was kind of curt and not helpful. Also, some of the patrons in the pro shop were using inappropriate language with a female staff member present. I ended up leaving.
