Great shape
Haven’t been here in years, course has more teeth than I saw today due to low winds. Greens were smooth and rolled true. Entire course in great shape. Grip and rip but be smart on 5!
Beautiful day on a very nice course
After some overnight rain, the course was in great shape. Greens were firm and fair, fairways in terrific condition. As a twosome, we played behind a foursome, but moved very well on the front 9, then slowed the back half. 4 1/2 hours overall. Beautiful day, great course, no excuses! Ranger presence throughout the round; but no refreshment cart until 18!?!? What’s that about?
Good Overall
Course was in great shape and pace of play was fairly quick. The course was fairly challenging but not too much for the average player. I would definitely recommend this course to a friend.
Fun Course
Course is in excellent condition, tees and greens very good.
Pace of play a little slow, conditions were VERY windy.
We will absolutely go there again!
Never disappointed!!!!
I have grown to love this course more and more. The rough is extremely difficult due to the rain. However the crew is working hard to keep it in great shape. Greens are excellent and the fairways are nice. It is hard to spin the ball right now but overall, this is a challenging course, especially from the black tees. Everyone from the golf shop to starter are great guys. Overall, this is a must play. And keep your eye out for the Silver Fox.
Sanctuary
Nice round today with fellow veterans. Course in good condition considering all of the rain lately. 90 degree rule in effect was ok and justified. Greens in excellent condition and above average speed.
The Home of 5 1/2 hour rounds
Sanctuary has a great layout. However, every year, I endure a 5 1/2 hour round here and that's it for the year. I don't care if you play the course 5 times a week, that doesn't give you the right to play as slow as you want. Actually, the round started well. We played the first four holes in 44 minutes. Then, we played the last 14 in 4:45. Think about that for a mirute. Some rules. 1. If the group ahead tells you at the turn that it's going to get slow, maybe they are the problem. 2. If you can't reach the fairway, maybe move up a tee or two. 3. Don't sit in your cart watching one player hit. Prepare to hit while another player is hitting his shot. 4. We saw marshalls all day long. Not sure what their job is because monitoring pace of play isn't one of their duties.
Great Course with Fair Prices
Sanctuary has been one of my favorites in the Southwest Suburbs for awhile now. Great layout, conditions, and greens. Today, they were finally cutting the grass after a brutal stretch of rainy days. The uncut rough was super long. All things considered, course was still in great shape. Greens were rolling very well. At $30 during the week & $42 on the weekends, Sanctuary is about as good of a deal as you can get in the area.
Course was in good shape. Greens were slow but rolled true. It was very windy during our round but that is how this course defends itself because most holes play into the wind at some point. Pace of paly was excellent, we finished in under 4 hours on a Friday. The new mat's at the range are very nice to hit off of, almost better then hitting off of grass. If you like PBR beer, they sell them for a buck. I recommend this course, always a challenge!
Good pace of play for 16 holes
Great day, great price. All good until t he 16 th hole. Then, the threesome ahead of us decided to have a long discussion at the green after they putted out. Waited 10 minutes for them to finish, and two of them took off presumable to find open holes to replay. The third continued and he could not have been any slower. He decided it was ok to hit multiple shots, and played 17 very slowly. When he got to the 18th tee, he dropped several balls and now was practicing chipping. Then, he hit two tee balls, and multiple other balls on the hole. After he putted out, he walked off the green, dropped some balls, and practiced chipping again. Meanwhile, we waited in the fairway until he decided he was gone. I'm assuming that he owns the course.
Windy day
Extremely windy day, greens were slow. Played 4/21 greens still too slow weather better, however. Staff was great. A good value. I will play Gain. Challenging course.
Super Good Value
Played this course many times before but this is the only time I played this course this year. It’s always a challenging course and fun to play specially with your golf buddies. Today the course was wet due to hard rain earlier in the day but still a very good value for the money paid through GolfNow.com. Will always come back to play with friends.
Fun layout, course in great condition
Links style open course but trouble spots abound. Par 3’s are mostly under 160yds but one of them is big carry 200 (one ahead of tips). Par 4’s were usually under 375 yards, so that allows for making up for bad tee shots or.... take 3-wood or hybrid off tee and that will put you in 130yds-ish or less on approach shots. So, a good short iron (9-sw) game will score well here. Holes 14-15 are in wooded/tree-lined area and precision is key on these holes. 17 was a nice longer par 5 with water all along left side of hole. 18 was majestic views type closing hole. Very cool!
Course was pretty busy and we (3-some) still finished under four hours. So, course can move along pretty well.
Oh, for some reason a bunch of ball washers usually at tee boxes were missing or not there. I’m not sure if there was maintenance going on with the ball washers? Not big deal, just small observation.
Will definitely play again. Great course, fun challenge.
Better than expected after 2 days of rain
After 2 days and 2 1/2 inches of rain and a cart paths only rule in place, was expecting a very long and trying day. Pleasantly surprised! Although was definitely waterlogged, there was little ponding and incidental water (except for sand traps which were flooded and being pumped out). We instituted a free lift and drop policy for all sand traps. Considering conditions, the game moved along quite well and about 4 hr 20 mins was our time. Not bad! Greens were mostly just aerated (about 14 of 18) and that added a real challenge to the putting game and we were a little more generous with the gimmes as a result. The non-aerated greens were excellent. Even with special breaks we put in place for unusual conditions, still a very challenging Links-style course, especially with a strong wind out of the Southwest. Was a good day overall on this 85-degree mid-October day in Chicago.
Nice Links Course
The Sanctuary is a real nice Links style course layout. A bit more difficult in the wind of course. The Tees, Fairways and Greens were in very good condition (although some greens had recently been aerated, the others were in great condition.) Would travel the distance to play here again - well worth the trip.
