University Park Golf Club
About
University Park Golf Club (formerly known as University Golf Club & Conference Center) boasts one of the most popular championship courses in the Chicagoland area. The golf course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1962. The original design by Lawrence Packard received an update in 2004 by Greg Martin, but the classic character of the layout still remains. The course wanders across gentle rolling terrain, providing elevated tees and undulating fairways. Water hazards come into play on half the holes, including on the 17th, University Park Golf Club's signature hole. This intimidating par 3 requires a tough carry over water to an elevated green. Miss it and you'll be faced with the nearly impossible task of getting up and down. The difficulty doesn't let up with the final hole, an uphill dogleg par 4 with a sloped, elevated green and water on the right.

5 Hour 40 Minute Round
Let me start off by saying that the employees in the pro shop & in the restaurant were very nice. Food was good also. The course itself was average to slightly above. Interesting layout that requires a fair amount of laying up. The greens were aerated a week ago so wasn’t ideal. I normally shoot in the low 90s, but seemed like every group in front of us was playing into the 150s. Hit, wait 10 minutes, hit, wait 10 minutes.... the entire day. No ranger ever came out to suggest anyone to speed up the pace. Because of the pace of play, I could never recommend this course.
Hidden Gem
I was staying 45 minutes south of Chicago, so I wanted a course that was closer to my hotel than traveling closer to downtown. University was directly west of my hotel, so I gave it a try. Glad I did. The staff was very friendly, and even gave a couple of tips on getting around the golf course (which I didn't follow on 10 and paid for it), and let you know it was wide open today. The layout has interesting doglegs, which give you some risk/reward options. The course is very flat, and is pretty open in case you spray a couple of shots. Greens were very receptive, and rolled nicely. I really enjoyed this track!!
Don't miss tis one
It was our first time here and we were very pleased with the whole experience. The staff at the course was very friendly and accommodating. The course was in great conditions and the greens were very true. Will definitely come back again.
Greens need some work
I always enjoy the course and play quite a few times each year as the prices through the various booking site are good. The greens are slow and a bit bumpy but better than many other heavily used courses. Just played a round in 3.25 hours with two others.
Great value!
Tyrone is the course manager and he is a great asset. Very personable, knowledgeable, and vey customer oriented. The course was wet but expected due to the time of year. Fun layout, great bargain and I will be back.
Course was in excellent condition
Greens very true
Very pleasantly surprised. The course was in pretty good shape. Pretty lengthy from the tips. The holes are pretty close to one another, but the layout is somewhat challenging. Great experience. Super friendly staff!
Return to home course
I have been playing University Park for years. This is the first time I played since its come under new management. The course is in great shape and is fun to play. The clubhouse staff is friendly. The kitchen in the clubhouse used to have a great menu, but it is still comfortable and enjoyable, but not as many food selections. The course was relatively wide open which was surprising based on the cost to play and condition of the course. I and my golf partner had a very enjoyable round and I will definitely be back.
Playing golf in Chicago in December
Great to play golf in Chicago in December at such a great rate. Course was in adequate shape considering the time of year. Fairways were a little soft from rain but the greens were okay. I would play the course again for the rate I was charged.
Great course and reasonable cost to play.
Course in good shape. Clubhouse is nice and the food is good.
Cool! Thanks so much for taking the time to review our course and for playing at University Golf Club! Glad the conditions were ideal and you enjoyed the clubhouse and the food. We hope you come back for more, soon!
Great Day
Played on a 70 degree day in November. Who can complain? Course was a little slow due to many people having the same thought. Course was very clean considering the number of trees and the amount of leaves down. Greens rolled well. However you might think twice before using a yellow golf ball.
This weather has been awesome! So glad you were able to make it out for your round in November, we appreciate the feedback. We hope to see you again on another warm day out at University Golf Club!
course in good shape this late in the season
Love the course, love the price, staff was friendly and ready to serve-overall. it was a great experience to play there.
So glad to hear it! Thank you for playing at University Golf Club, we are really happy to hear you had an overall great time and enjoyed every moment. We love our fans! Come back and see us soon we can't wait to see you.
Solid Choice
University Park was in decent shape outside of the sand traps, which needed maintenance. Greens were quick, fairways were nice and tee boxes decent. On weekends, this course gets a lot of play. During mid- week is the time to play here.
Great to have your here at University Golf Club! We are happy to hear you enjoyed the course and the greens were up to par. Come back and see us again one weekend soon. We hope to see you again soon!
Course has matured over the years
Last time I played here was probably about 15 years ago when it was still called Urban Hills. What a difference a bunch of years makes! The course has matured quite nicely and many of the holes are barely recognizable compared to what I remember. And this is all for the good! Trees now provide a nice presence on the course. It no longer looks like a track cut out of a cornfield. There is nothing very special or tricky about the course (well, the 600-yard par 5 #16 certainly puts a strain on distance), but there are a few nice doglegs and some water. Sand traps were relatively few and far between - and that's a good thing, because they do need serious attention. Otherwise conditions were nice. Very nice (must be fairly new) clubhouse. Tasty jumbo $3.25 hot dogs. Course is nicely landscaped with built-up landscaping walls around most of the tee boxes.
My only real complaint has to do with tee selection.. The course has 4 tee boxes to choose from - 6724 yards from the Black tips to 5208 yards from the Bronze forward. As seniors, we chose the 6003 yard Silver. The gripe is that on some of the par 4s, the Silver tees were placed way up at the Bronze tee box, effectively making many of these par 4s 80 to 100 yards shorter and well under 300 yards in length. The course should strive to set their tee markers so that the advertised distances are close to what the card shows. Otherwise, tee selection is based on erroneous information and that can affect the player's game.
Otherwise, we had a nice day at the course and we'll return again, especially at the GolfNow rates.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave your review and for playing at University GC&CC! We will inform our staff to audit the yardages from the tees mentioned and get a more accurate reading. We're so glad you enjoyed the course and the hot dog and found great value in playing here. Happy to hear it was fun and challenging!
Good greens
Overall an average course considering layout and conditions but the greens were surprisingly smooth and fast. Definitely would play again for a hot deal!
Thank you for playing at University GC&CC! We appreciate your honest feedback and your opinion on the course. Glad you loved the greens too. Come back soon!
greens in good shape.
Nice course. Slow play killed the round... need to have a ranger on course pushing folks along.
We hear you! Thanks so much for you feedback it is important to us. We have informed our staff regarding the pace of play issue and will address it. Hope to see you again and we're glad you liked the golf course. Come back soon!
Thanks for your review! We're glad you enjoyed your round even through the cold weather. Hope to see you on the course again soon!
