Course help up against rain
Decided to play this course because of the price. Around $30 with a cart for 18. It was mid day on a weekday so it was pretty open and even though it had rained substantially the morning and night before the course was only a little bit wet with zero puddles and flooding issues. For the front 9 it was cart path only but the course superintendent came out to check the conditions and changed it to carts on Fairway. Most courses would have just kept it to cart path only the whole day so I appreciated the attentiveness to wanting to make the experience as god as possible. Will definitely come back again.
Slow Play warning?
I played as a single player getting paired with 3 other people. One was somebody that was a god player the other two were older women. Interestingly we were given a slow play warning from the ranger but didn’t not see why. The group in front was play a scramble format as well as the group behind us. So they were playing the best ball from their groups. Of course this would make them play faster. That shouldn’t dictate how we played. Additionally we were well within pace. If they want players to play at a specific pace then that should have been stated at the beginning of the round. Course was in good condition but the greens were bumpy. Also a bunch of holes that cross too close cause people to hit into other players constantly.
Great course
I’m town for training went here. Played front 9. Staff was nice course was in great shape. 25 dollars was cost for 18 holes. Can’t play anywhere that cheap in St. Louis.
Rude staff
Where do they hire a group of inherently rude staff. They are a bad representation of Deerfield as a town. I have played here more than 5 times and every time had some kind of rude unprofessional encounter. Don’t stack your weekend golf on this place. They either gonna cancel your order, start you late, squeeze you for cart money for riding alone, or even close for the day but still allow online reservations and fail to give notice of course closure. Management at this place could use a refresh. Deerfield park district leadership take notice.
Decent track but that’s it
The course is generally well maintained and the practice area is just okay (stalls too close, not moved often enough, no fresh grass and trying to hit off mud isn’t fun). The greens are especially great for a muni course however. Staff is often unfriendly, ranger never around to speed up slow players and food at the halfway house is just disgusting. At $100 a round for a single player with own cart one would expect a better experience.
Decent affordable cars near the city of Chicago
Nice course to play if you don’t want to drive too far from the city
perfect greens for me
Greens held shots well.. Putting speed was perfect.
Pace of play
We had a foursome yesterday. We were behind 2 groups of women playing 9 holes - pace was awful.
After the women played 9 We were on 11 and the ranger said WE were slow!!!! We told of the 2groups that played 9 as bring very slow. He was adamant We were slow. We finished in 4 hrs 15 min despite the front 9 problems. Don't think we'll be back....saw ranger after and he never apologized.....says much
Condition and Pace was great
Great condition and pace was great. 4 hour round. Never waited. Played back tees and they were good distance.
Nice course but all players must be 12yrs or older
The course is nice but was quite frustrating to learn that all players must be at least 12 years old. Even with an adult. Why would you have such a great training facility and kids programs but not allow them to play? I could see if it’s a bunch of little kids with no adults but if the kids can keep up with pace if play and are with an adult let the kids play.
Friendly staff
I have played Deerfield twice in the last two years and have been treated very well by the staff. The lady in the pro shop and the starter were both very friendly and welcoming. The golf course is challenging, the front nine is significantly tighter than the back . The greens rolled nicely, the par threes have a nice variety, you hit different clubs into the greens.
6 hours
18! Holes takes 6 hours when half the field is empty and you have 4-6 groups all bunched up together with no ranger to tell the old american peasants in front to play faster. Terrible also greens are almost as slow as old orchard
Great condition
I’ve played here many times, and it was in by far the best condition I’ve ever seen it. The greens were beautiful. The biggest drawback to this course is the noise and the wall along 294, or else it might be one of my favorites in the area. The practice facility is first rate, and the head teaching pro, Derek, has really helped my game. The clubhouse is small and not worth hanging around.
Great course
Course is beautiful condition, great layout, staff very nice. Only issue ordered a turkey club at halfway house. Got 3 pieces of turkey on wheat bread. Nothing else on it.
Definitely give this course a try.
