Nice way to spend part of the day
Got matched up with 2 other golfers, great group. Pace was good, green's were true, and we played in 4 hours on a late Sunday morning. No complaints, and a great value.
Nice afternoon of golf
Got a spur of the moment tee time. Course fairly narrow, which was the challenge. Rough was thick and lush, difficult at times. Green were beautiful, medium fast and true. Bunkers also in great shape. Overall great course condition. Slow medium slow pace of play.
Super day at a really nice course
Deerfield is in great condition and the pace of play is wonderful in the morning. I live in the city and getting here in 25 mins in the morning and getting home reasonably is key for me. The course plays in 4 hours or less.
The greens are large, but in great condition and roll a little on the quick side.
I love this test of golf. It has holes that goes right and holes that goes left. A mis hit will penalize you. This course has everything I look for.
Nice course
Good layout, variety, condition. Course was in good shape especially for mid summer. Fairly fast greens. Played under 4.5 hr round with no one in front, which is apparently slow for this course. I was paired with a single and two-some. One of the twosome duffed repeated t-shots using irons off par 5s, and yet his buddy, a regular, kept making rushed comments to me. I actually told him I was going to use the bathroom at the turn when he kept asking what I was up to. Marshal barked in a rage about slow play, even though he passed us a few times without a warning or even stopping on previous passes. Mentioned the group behind us was complaining. They were barely keeping up with us and when we sped up a little they fell way back. In short, a lot of complaining from people who are themselves the problem. I will give it another try b/c it is a pretty lovely course (although butted up against the expressway for a few holes.) Hopefully next time I will find people out to relax and challenge and enjoy themselves, not get out their frustrations. Nothing worse than hearing grown men whine.
great course
Love this course! Beautiful trees and landscaping, friendly people, great conditions and layout. Only downside, wish they would put in a snack bar to grab a hot dog between 9th and 10th holes.
Good course, Slow Play
Deerfield Golf is a terrific course and in excellent condition. I do think the greens could made faster. My biggest complaint is the pace of play. Though a single, I was grouped with a single walker and pair of college grads (one could hit the ball a mile and in play). We all played at a good pace and kept up with the very slow walking foursome ahead of us. (No putt was given away by these guys.) Ahead of them was an extremely slow, elderly twosome that was holding that group up. We finally skipped 13 and jumped past the elderly twosome and played the final holes in about 35 minutes. I think a marshal could have mitigated this knot of golfers as we proceeded around the course. I generally don't like to report other golfers...but here was an extreme case that should have been dealt with. Our round ended up being about 4 hour 20 minutes. Had we not skipped and played through...it would definitely exceeded 5 hours. Too long for a round of golf.
This course is great if you like 5 hour rounds
Don't play this course on the weekend. Pace of play was terrible with 2 groups on 1 tee with a 3 hole gap several groups ahead of me. I called for a ranger but never got one. If the ranger did his/her jjob, we could have played faster. It was like the golf staff just didn't care. Very disappointing
Great track
Resort styled. Great conditions. Perfect greens for a public course. Great practice facility and staff.
Well kept excellent course
We golfed on a beautiful afternoon on a weekday and the course wasn't too crowded and was very well staffed. It was in great condition for this time of year, only small complaint about the course was that a few holes bordered the highway and were noisy as a result. Small complaint though in perspective, because the course is challenging with lots of water on the front and good distances to choose from with 5 separate tee boxes on many holes. Overall great experience, will definitely look for weekday afternoon deals to come back.
Classic
Classic course with classy people both on and off the course. Greens rolled true, bunkers were soft and tee boxes were flat and well manicured. Will definitely be back for another challenge.
A must return
Great conditions. Manicured fairways fast greens friendly staff. Very enjoyable round
Good fun
Nice round. Will play here again. Not too many holes waiting for those ahead or folks creeping up our backside
Singin' in the Rain
I always enjoy playing this course, even if the weather conditions aren't perfect. And they weren't for about 1/3 of my round on Memorial Day. But there's always something very satisfying of hitting a good shot under less than ideal conditions. And if the shot isn't that good I can always blame it on the weather. Didn't have to do that yesterday - much.
Great golf course
It was my first visiting.
The course condition was really good in spite of morning rain.
I really enjoyed golf.
Great course
Very nice public course in great shape. Fairways cut perfectly, rough was challenging, traps were a little hard but able to get under the ball, greens were fairly quick. Don't read into a break as much as you think. The Superintendent is doing a fantastic job on this course. If you get the chance to play it, do so! Expect delays on food orders. A little slow in the kitchen.
Nice Challenging Course - Pace of Play a problem
I've played Deerfield a few times and find it to be a generally nice, well-kept course at good GolfNow rates (though the regular rates are WAY TOO HIGH).
Like a lot of courses, the front 9 is tight and strategic (both the par 5s really aren't driver holes if you hit it a decent length - brings too much trouble into play) whereas the back 9 is long and open. Worth noting that there's a couple holes where hitting it way left would seemingly equate to causing a 20-car pileup on I-294.
However in this instance there was a junior tournament ahead of us moving at approximately 50% pace. The last group was actually at least 1-2 holes behind but no one came out to speed them up. Thankfully I was able to double-up on the front-nine as opposed to dealing with a 3-hour long back-9 behind the Junior Tournament. However I feel like Deerfield should let all golfers know when something like this junior tournament is going on - if I would have known I would have taken a rain check on my round. The staff is generally friendly and likeable, however.
Good Value, Enjoyable Round
Course showed up on GolfNow. I played it 20 years ago in a group event before I learned how to play. Paired up with a really nice guy and we played from the senior tees. I had a cart included, but prefer to walk and it's a very walkable course. If it shows up as a special on GolfNow I won't hesitate to book it again.
Very Nice Course
This was my first time playing this course and for the first week of May the course was in excellent condition. Having played 7 courses this season, Deerfield Golf Club ranks at the top. Nice facility and very friendly staff.
Staff Reservation Assistance very poor
Since the rates at this course far exceed its value I went onto GolfNow to get a better rate as I was supposed to play with other friends who had free coupons from another event. When all eight of us arrived we were told that the tee times were not booked under the person's name and they had been given to other groups. My reservation was fine, but I didn't play because all of my friends could not play either! Staff was not concerned, nor apologetic. The course is very nice but I would highly recommend anyone trying to book tee times in the future to either go directly through GolfNow or reconfirm any phone reservation they may make to be sure that it actually was booked before they drive long distances to play at Deerfield. There is no Head Pro so apparently there is no management there now. Too bad.
Spring brings growth
For early Spring the course is in good shape. Great way to start the golf season. Greens are full growth and fairways are filling in. Deerfield will be a great summer experience.
