Great condition as always............
I've somewhat adopted Deerfield as my home course, given it's proximity to my home but more importantly, the quality of golf course and challenge it presents to the average Joe golfer like myself. Course is in excellent shape, and the greens are right up there as some of the toughest in the area, but fun to putt none the less. You can't beat the value, only draw back is teeing off early morning leaves you susceptible to slow play potentially, but if you can get out for twilight the value is even that much greater as the course is more wide open during that time, typically.
Greens are better than most open to public courses
I played the course earlier in the season and decided to come back. I got a good rate from Golf Now and I liked the greens and overall condition of the course. I was upset about the very slow pace of play. The reason I was given by the ranger for the slow play was there was an outing with novice golfers ahead of us. I felt I should have been told about the outing before I booked the round. The round took more than five hours and because of my schedule I didn't have the time to complete all 18 holes.
Above average north shore course
Booked an amazing hot deal on a Thursday, $19! Was playing alone that's why I think I get that deal. Was paired up with a 3-sum of seniors, no problem. Very unorganized check in due to a couple outings going on.
Course is well kept with patches under repair, greens run fast as other reviews say, bunkers are rock hard.
Repair your ball marks people, it's common courtesy!
It runs along the edens so not a serene quite setting to say the least. Very nice range, poor chipping and putting greens.
Course plays quite long from the blacks, and narrow fairways so practice that driver on the range. Huge greens at times, so possible 80+ foots if your not accurate in the scoring zone.
All in all a decent experience, absolutely hate playing courses with events booked and this place hosts them very often.
The menu in the clubhouse is great, try the turkey club, terrific.
Overcrowded
Excellent course but was a bit overcrowded when I played. Granted it was a Sunday, but it shouldn't take over 5 hours to play a round.
Great municipal course.
Course is in good condition. A few greens hurt by weather. The 18 gives you different looks so it's fun to play. Staff and rangers very friendly and helpful. I even got a thank you for playing email!
Great green
This Deerfield greens are a little bit fast and well managed.
Great condition: great staff
Keeping your wood shots fairly straight as on most courses will help a lot. Fairways and greens in very good condition. If your moderate length off the tee, play your drive to the left on 17th hole as fairway opens wide to the left of the trap. Long drivers can play right side.
Nice experience
Good value. Friendly staff. Nice club house with good bar.
Very good greens
Deerfield GC was a pleasant surprise. After several days of rain, the course drained well, & the greens were very good. Good size greens in good condition, plus an excellent range & warm up area, all at very affordable price...will bring me back.
18 at Deerfield
Enjoyed this course. It was a good day and I was impressed by the quality of the greens. They were very true. Sand bunkers actually had sand.
Nice course, huge greens
Came out with my usual foursome to play this course which we'd played a few times before. The free bucket of balls to start the round was nice. The course was in pretty good condition after a hard rain the night before. The greens are huge so plenty of 3-putt opportunities. Plenty of trees and ponds to challenge your accuracy. We had fun and enjoyed our round.
It's a great course...
but the greens had recently been aerated, so, they were bumpy and not in their usual great condition. That was the only disappointing feature of the day.
Very nice course, somewhat expensive
Played this course for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the staff was. We didn't tell the starter it was our first time at the course, but I think he figured it out and was very nice and thorough about explaining the gold/blue tee boxes. He also gave me some brand new balls to play (that someone had left in the cart the day before).
Fairways were in great shape, only the 10th fairway had major deadspots in it, but just don't let your ball land there. Few of the greens had dead spots that made our balls jump the line.
Course looks on paper pretty straightforward but narrow fairways add to the challenge. Greens are flat, wide and some rollling so you need to be a good up/downer.
Only downfall is the tollway noise that made it hard to hear my partner when we played some holes along the tollway.
Above Average Public Course
I like playing Deerfield very much for several reasons. First of all, I think it plays longer than the yardage. I find the dog-legs and hazards to be well placed in order to make the course more difficult and I enjoy that. I also think that Deerfield is very well maintained for a public course; there were very few divots in the fairways and even fewer ball marks on the greens. My biggest gripe with this course is the bunkers. They are shallow and just look poor. It is a little expensive at full price (in my opinion). Overall, this is a good course and I think it is worth playing when finding a deal through various websites.
good course with good staffs
Good course at great location with good staffs.
due to cold winter greens and were in not the best condition but fast in most spots but some dry spots need to be fixed.
Great Course
Loved playing here. Very challenging holes. Some of the fairways were a little swampy, a lot of standing water, but that's to be expected after the winter we've had here in Chicago.
Nice course, when all holes playable
Nice course overall. Great greens for late in the season. Worst part was 3 of the holes were under construction and had temporary greens. This made the round disappointing. Wish they had made that clear before reserving. Would go back but not at full price and would be sure to call to check course conditions.
3 closed greens
Great course, in great condition, except for the 3 holes with closed greens. Temporary greens are in the fairway and impossible to putt on, even though they did cut the grass as short as possible for a fairway.
The rest of the course is in great condition, the greens are a little faster than most public courses, but read true, and are well maintained. I really enjoyed this course, and am going to recommend it to my league scheduler.
Lots of long holes
Lots of long holes, not much water, course in good shape. A few holes on the front 9 are under repair, so they put the 'green' in the middle of the fairway. I've played here before and will play again.
