Fun
Great course. I had a lot of fun.
Fun golf
We enjoyed the course and found it challenging. Would like to play there again!
Played in 38F, Felt like 28F
First time out this season at Deerfield GC. Think everyone must have been home watching The Masters. The course was empty. $20 to walk the course. It was upper 30's but definitely felt like upper 20's. Make sure bundle up.
The course was in excellent condition. The entire course was free of debris and leaves. The tee to green was incredible despite the cold and snow we've had past few days.
The greens rolled true and fast. Played under 3 hours.
True greens
Played this course on 12-12-15. Course conditions were excellent for that time of the year. Playing from the back tees proved to be a very good test of skill. Try it, you'll like it.
nice convenient location for a great course
first time visit and enjoyed the course. I will be back:-)
Sloped Greens Very Quick.
Staff and practice areas are excellent. Course makes good use of limited space along tollway, but too many holes look the same. Greens are very well maintained and challenging - fast, sloped, tough to read, some killer pin placements, so approach shots must be carefully planned. Tees and fairways very good. Scorecard yardages and cart GPS are accurate. Pace of play very slow, close to 5 hours, without any rangers moving along slow/poor players. Overall, a good course and will play one more time to see if pace of play is better..
Great Course- terribly slow
This course is in great shape.(18th hole has temp green). The pace is awful. It is a very nice course however, It is one of the slower courses to play. I guess with great rates come overbooked tee times. We actually tried to play the front nine twice to get 18 holes. As the 10th hole was backed up with 2-3 foursomes (same as the start)Bummer as I shot a great score on front nine and I generally do better on the back. After getting in 6 holes the second time around frustration set in and we called it a day.
Dishonest booking practice
The clubhouse booked five groups before sunrise, then pushed everyone back by one hour.
long and tight
challenging course.,long and tough. Some tight tee shots with trees, water, and o.b.The greens are huge.and fast with undulations. It's easy to waste plenty of shots on the greens.I thought the course was sy due to the tollway, home construction, and workers. It was easy focus.
Nice coarse with some long driving holes.
Liked the layout and the staff. Tight in spots and rewards accurate driving. Some doglegs that require clubbing down to avoid driving through the fairways. Right next to the Tristate Tollway, so can get a little noisy. Would definitely play it again.
Deerfield review
on a windy September day in Chicago, deerfield was in wonderful shape. greens, fairways and tee-boxes were far superior than other local munis. sand traps also have been very much improved. Overall, the experience was great and played with another single who was of equal skill to myself.
Also with the money saved through GolfNow was able to buy a shirt in pro shop at 30 % off
Great Greens
Great course. Greens are in excellent condition for a municipal course. The practice area was impressive also - grass range, short game area, and multiple putting greens.
Very Enjoyable Round
The course is in great shape, particularly the greens. We played in 3 1/2 hours, even though it was cart-path-only. The only down side to the course is that some holes run along the toll-way, so you get some noise from that which disturbs the otherwise tranquil ambience.
Very busy course
Average course challenge, need better signage, any developing areas should be completely block out from the course. Some holes run alongside each other on opposite direction and some cart path runs into the neighborhood.
Slow pace of play!!!
I have wanted to play this course for a long time and finally had the opportunity to. Course itself is in good shape. Fairways are regularly cut rough is in good shape as well, barely any leaves. Traps overall are maintained although there were a few with standing rain water in them. Greens are also in good shape. They were slow in the morning but sped up as the sun dried them out. Tuesday must be a mowing day as there were machines on every hole on the front nine. Not exactly ideal when trying to concentrate on your shot and have to worry about possibly hitting the grounds keeper.
My only gripe was the pace of play. We waited on every single shot for 18 holes. The group in front of us was slow as could be and had no regard for the players behind them. At one point there were three foursomes backed up behind us. The ranger was nowhere to be found. Overall what should have been easily under a four hour round took almost five hours.
We have all been stuck behind slow groups and for those of us that play consistently it can be very frustrating but we take it with a grain of salt I guess. Overall I would play here again and hope the rangers are more effective in keeping the pace of play ontime.
Hope to Return This Year
Last minute decision to play here & it was well worth it! Course was in great shape. The whole Riverwoods area is very cool in my opinion - talk about some beautiful homes! From the gold tees, there is enough length to give you a challenge (especially on the Par 3's). Water comes into play on a few holes. Sand traps were well maintained. As were the undulating greens, which I found to be decently challenging. Bonus points for the GPS carts! All in all, I really enjoyed Deerfield and hope to return soon.
Nice course
This was a great course for the money. Well-maintained and everything was in excellent shape.
Munic track, retirement home pace
A muni track nothing more nothing less. Pace of play was horrendous. I went there hoping for a quick round on (tuesay 10am) and what I got was the exact opposite. It took 2.5 hours to finish nine i left at the 14th hole 4+ hours after I started. I waited on almost every single shot. The group in front was patenting their own tee rituals. Not only did they take an awful lot of practice swings before the actual shot but also after the shot as well. the course was packed. In no way would I pay their regular tee time price tag. I got a golfnow deal but even then I was regretting not dishing out extra to play another course. It was recommended by a friend and it will be the last last time I take his advice. If u do catch it at a non busy day it might be a nice track but even then it's a no frills golf track. Greens and fairways were in good shape but after the 3rd hole u were too annoyed to notice.. Highways on the outskirts of the course give it a buzzing noise throughout most of the holes.
It's ridiculous that a park district course will charge $75 for the weekend even after the greens have been aerated and sanded. It's a good course but doesn't compare with Thunderhawk or Stonewall Orchard. Deerfield Park District is price gouging! Will never play or even recommend to anyone to play here for $75. Wait for the weekday and hot deals and play for what's really worth $25 - $35.
