Odyssey Golf Course
About
Odyssey Country Club is a challenging layout that was designed by Harry Bower and two-time U.S. Open winner Curtis Strange. Strange won in 1988 and 1989, putting him in the company of only six others in the century-long history of the U.S. Open. His influence is apparent in all the strategic elements of the golf course as well as the risk-reward options. This demanding layout is not exactly beginner friendly. Staying on the fairways is crucial or your ball will be met with deep rough. Water is also a prominent presence on the golf course. Twelve holes either feature a water hazards or play along the water's edge. Odyssey Country Club's 16th hole is memorable for its tricky island green, which naturally draws comparisons to the famous 17th at TPC Sawgrass.

Horrible
When you aren't afraid of being attacked by geese, there's the ridiculous obstacles of geese droppings to contend with. There are so many holes along the tee boxes, fairways, and greens that you'll have to increase your handicap to make anything positive of your round. Good luck if you get stuck behind a golf outing because you'll need your own flood light to finish your round. After 6 pm the staff comes around hounding you, making it difficult to finish without continued distractions.
odyssey
Overall not too bad. Some fairways and tee boxes need some urgent care. Greens were pretty good, ( if people would fix their ball marks). This course gets a lot of play. Recommend sand filler in the carts, that would help a lot! Great course for the price.
Odyssey
Very nice amenities, friendly service. Course Layout very nice. Greens slightly above average, need to cut them down. Weather in our area this season conducive to have better greens. Put signs up near the green to please repair ball marks. The tee boxes and fairways below average, chopped up in a lot of areas. Sand traps good where they've been maintained and bad where they're not. Inconsistent all over. Basic course maintenance would go a long way. Put cart guide ropes up until conditions improve in areas where needed.
in bad shape worse food ever at the turn
ordered a ham and cheese sandwich at the half way wish the fairways were as hard the bread. that sandwich must have sitting in the box for about a month.
course has been in better shape in the past. needs better conditiioning weeds growing no sand in bunkers and so on.
Don't trust what they tell you
I preface this by saying that I’ve been going to The Odyssey practically since it opened. And this was the last time.
I had a tee time on Sunday, July 23. We’ve had horrible rains lately, so a lot of courses are flooded. So when I called the day before to make the tee time, I specifically asked about the course conditions. The person on the phone said, and I quote, “It’s a little soggy. Cart path only today, can’t say about tomorrow”. I can handle a little soggy, which usually means that you’ll squish in spots on the fairways. Fine, let’s book it.
Driving in from the main road takes you along the 10th fairway. There’s a pond on the side of the fairway. We see that it’s extended across the fairway. So when we get to the pro shop, we ask about that. They say that, it’s cart path only, and there’s standing water on 4-5 holes. In retrospect, I should have asked more questions, but we were there, and wanted to play. So we took him on his word.
Well, the actual conditions were that there were new ponds of standing water on 4-5 holes. And there was standing water on all of the first 11 holes, and I stopped paying attention after that. My drive on 10 landed in the middle of the fairway in that extended pond, which ended up being so deep that I had to abandon my ball.
And, to add to that, I emailed them after the round that I understood why the course was a mess, but did not appreciate being lied to, just to get people on the course. I wasn’t asking for anything, but was hoping for some kind of apology. And they never responded. Which means to me that they just didn’t care.
In any event, take what they tell you with a grain of salt. They’re not interested in your satisfaction, just in receiving your greens fees (which, by the way, were not discounted for the poor conditions).
Need a dog to contol the geese.
I'm a scratch golfer and this course is within 5 miles of my home and I play it about 10 times a year. I enjoy the layout, but the grass is usually too long making it difficult to find your ball even if it is just off the fairway. They have drainage problems on a couple of holes, but the bigger issue is geese and the mess they make. Albeit they're only on about six of the holes, a dog could make a world of difference. Coyote Run is a good neighboring example of how effective a dog can be. Even with its short comings, I like this course, find it to be a bit challenging, and they have a very courteous staff.
Wet weather
This course typically drains very well, but with the constant rain the rough was very long. The cart paths require some maintenance and it would have been nice to see a beverage cart, but overall the track is pretty nice.
Great Course, Could use some TLC
This is one of my favorite local courses. It was worth playing for the hot deal price however, I would not pay full price to play there. The tee boxes are in bad shape and the rough was unreasonably long. If they can clean up the course conditions it would be among the top courses in the area
Really let it go
I played this course for about 20 years but it just keeps getting worse every year carts are old gps is 5 to 10 yards off sand traps are hard and there are rocks and pebble in them no sand just base greens are ok but no one fixes there ball marks and they try to get top dollar for course and it really is just a $25 $30 dollar course. fairways have bare spots and if it rains it is a swamp.I hope they get a management company to start helping with it so it comes back because it is a great design.
Good value for the Price
First time on this course, and plenty of water and traps to make it a challenge.
Based on skill, you can play white tees to score or blue tees that would bring hazards into play more.
Course conditions are average, run by a non-profit, nice round for the money.
Start off with a Frost Delay
When I golfed yesterday, we had a frost delay to start; which is fine. But the staff didn't know how to handle this at all. My tee time was set for 7:44am; and I would told that the starter would start letting people out at 8:30am. That's great, but they didn't tell me what the first tee time was. Was the first tee time 6am and there is a 2 hour delay? Nobody knew. All we were told was to show up at the first tee at 8:30am. So there we are, with about 65 other people and 30 carts at the starters house by the first tee. I felt bad for the starter, he was lost. Had no direction on what to do... someone from inside could have came out to assist him. At the end, people just started to tee off when they wanted to and didn't even listen to the starter... It was a mess. Then with so many people trying to tee off so close together, the course was backed up most of the day. Truly a mess! The course itself was in "okay" condition. The tee boxes where hacked to ****. My cart partner drove in from O'Hare to play a "Top course in Chicagoland area;" he mentioned that he wouldn't play this course again.
Hot deal!!
This course is gorgeous!! Its a bit out of my price range but got a great hot deal price!! Its worth the regular price. But i cannot afford it. So the only time i get to play is value times. Thanks
Not bad wetlands
Not bad for the November
Quality course with one major flaw
This is a quality golf course with one major flaw - drainage. It's in a low-lying area, there are a lot of water hazards and the course is absolutely flat. When I played, the weather had been dry for a while, so it wasn't an issue, but you could still see bare patches that had been water logged and ruts caused by golf carts. The greens, however, were in good shape and rolled true.
Winter Rules
Good course a little beat up and golfers jumping around holding up play a bit too much.
good day
Green were outstanding , grounds pretty wet (we've had big rains) but playable
enjoyed this course very much
i like the layout and condition of course
Oddesy Great Course in Southland
Play this course you will enjoy it. Fairways are lush and greens somewhat fast but extremely an enjoyable course for mid to high handicappers.
A fun course often overlooked
Course was in nice shape considering the hot summer and the heavy rains recently. Nice layout, greens weren't quick, but fast enough and rolled true. Play from the blues makes this course allot more challenging. Course was not busy, we played as a twosome in 3 hours and we took our time. Especially great deal since we got it on Golf Now for $13! Course worth playing for more than that, but the deal makes it really nice.
