About
Odyssey Country Club is a challenging layout that was designed by Harry Bower and two-time U.S. Open winner Curtis Strange. Strange won in 1988 and 1989, putting him in the company of only six others in the century-long history of the U.S. Open. His influence is apparent in all the strategic elements of the golf course as well as the risk-reward options. This demanding layout is not exactly beginner friendly. Staying on the fairways is crucial or your ball will be met with deep rough. Water is also a prominent presence on the golf course. Twelve holes either feature a water hazards or play along the water's edge. Odyssey Country Club's 16th hole is memorable for its tricky island green, which naturally draws comparisons to the famous 17th at TPC Sawgrass.

Pace of play was absolutely horrible. Round took us about 5 and a half hours. Seen several rangers driving around but pace of play never sped up at all. Course was in decent shape, tee boxes and sand traps need repair.

Grounds crew behavior
Was notified that greens were being aerated the day of our round. Ok, no problem…. Caught the crew at 5 so we skipped. For some reason, crew was in front of us at 12. Superintendent stated machine broke down…. or something happened that put them ahead of us again…… so we waited. Had to skip ahead once again. Next hole, I’m chipping up while playing partner is 6 ft from the cup. During my backswing, grounds crew leader rides up in cart, without a word, parks in front of green, removes flag and cup from green and drives away!

Average Course With A Goose Problem
The course itself is not bad, it has the feel of a 9 hole course for the price of a full 18. For locals I felt like I was playing at Willow Run. Every hole is an obstacle course to get around the geese, they are everywhere and there are no measures to prevent them on the course. Every shot in the fairway was accompanied by an unlimited supply of bird droppings from all the geese. I had to wait multiple times to T off until the 40 geese made their way off the T-box.

Good round
Course was in better shape than usual for this late in the year. Had a good amount of rain lately. Saturday morning round, didn't see the guys in front or behind us very often.

Sunday morning slow play, which can be expected. Every time I play here it is sloppy course conditions after minimal rain. Bad drainage maybe. But overall not a terrible course.

Friday afternoon
Had a better experience than the 5+ hour round in June. Good pace until 12th hole and then had 2 groups on a tee box for the rest of the round. Rangers were around, but didn't seem to move thing along. Course and greens chopped up due to outing earlier in the day. No one fixed their ball marks. Course played well and soaked up a downpour quickly. Will return!

Great public course
The course was in good shape. Pace of play was good, I teed off at 6:15am, and finished by 9:30. My only problem with the course was that there were many ball marks on most of the greens. Must have been some lazy people playing there lately.

Loved the layout of this course!
Didn’t know what to expect other than the classic Chicagoland Odyssey name. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a really fun course. Interesting enough from championship tees it was nice and long, however, there are 4 separate tee box options that made it great for the family too. . It was a good hybrid of a classic/ modern style course. I am looking forward to playing a more competitive round here soon.

The greens were really good. True and firm. The military appreciation is awesome. Wish they had logo golf balls(that’s just me lol) will definitely be back. Starters and staff were top notch.
