About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

this course needs a total cleanup
it's 85 degrees outdide all the water fountains are shut off due to covid and there is nobody going around with water finall on the 16th hole I got water for my wife and I for $6.00

Great course layout. Hot day and fun day!
Played on a 90 degrees day and walked. Course overall was in great condition. Greens were a little dry and slow actually. The course is just beautiful this time of year. Fairways are wide. Played on Saturday mid-day. 2 hour front 9 and 2.5 hour back 9 due to one slower group ahead. Really fun foursome though.
What's up with all the random golf balls all over the course? We saw half dozen Pro v1s and several Kirklands just all over the course.
My one suggestion is to create a direct path for walkers to get from pro shop to the driving range. Have to walk through 2 parking lots with my push cart with no back way in. It's not intuitive.

e played behind a fivesome and it took 5 hours.. several requests to the on course marshal still no change.. he pushed them on one hole and let them hold us up.. at one point 5 groups waiting on 17 hole…

Nice course, maintained pretty well. The pace was really good until we caught up with two younger player that couldn't keep up with the foursome in front of them.

New Vibe
I have been playing this course since I was 12 years old and I have to say for the first time, this facility has lost its charm. The general manager is cold as ice and it no longer has that friendly, neighborly atmosphere that it prided itself on. I have always felt the layout was so-so, but I have always played here for the memories. It no longer has that same feeling that it has had for the past 30+ years.

Great cousrse and layout
Overall a great course, the turn is on the 8th hole so you have to watch out for that and could use a little tree trimming in spots. Other then that it’s a great course and layout. Will play again.

Thank you for your comments. You mentioned the course needing a total cleanup but only talked about water. Please let us know what needs to be cleaned. As for water, you may purchase water at the bar, at the Tee-Side Grill out front, and at the Half-Way-House on the course. Now that guidelines have been relaxed, our water fountains will be turned on next week. We also have many staff members available to answer any questions previous to teeing off.
