St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Where My 2nd Shot Landed Photo submitted by DavePipitone on 07/25/2017
Excellent Shots Feel Good at this Course
I've played the Joe Jemsek course a number of times at the St. Andrew's Golf Club in West Chicago.
Like the starter today said, "This is the more difficult of the two courses here."
I had the option of playing the St. Andrew's course, but opted for this one.
The Jemsek course has longer and more challenging par threes; the greens on the par fives are rolling and sloped.
On number 8, a long par four, I hit a hybrid to within two feet for my first birdie on that hole.
I'd play this course again.
St. Andrew's review
Golf and conditions were good. Only drawback was the slow play.
Good value
St. Andrews staff was very friendly and the course was in very good condition. The pace of play was excellent. I did not see a refreshment cart, which was a little disappointing due to the heat but this was a very good experience, all-in-all
good course
I paid $94.07 on line for three (3) players
to GOLFNOW. I thought that included riding carts , but
when I went to register the people at the club charged
$50.01 additional for 2 carts.
I wish GOLFNOW was clear and inform that the green fee was walking and did NOT include Cart..
Beautiful course
It was a wonderful experience. There wasn’t many people playing before noon. The gc has beautiful greens, the rough wasn’t too rough, nice mix of par 3, 4 & 5. I’ll definitely play here again.
Good course, rough is too long
The fairways and greens are in excellent condition, but the rough is very long. Even in the first cut you can have troubles finding your ball and if the grass was just cut the clippings make it even harder. Very enjoyable course for all skill levels, not much water, par 3’s are long! GPS in carts is extremely accurate, and staff is always friendly. Free replay is on hold due to the virus but that is understandable, but I can’t wait until that option returns.
Golfing on Wednesday
The starter paired me with a single which made the round enjoyable. We were moving pretty fast until we caught up tp a group of five guys that were very slow. Not sure why a group of five were paired up and slow players also. I can see if these were scratch golfers and were hitting and moving. Luckily we skipped a hole and gave ourselves pars and the round was finished in 3 hours. The course was good shape for this late in the season.
Good course
Fun course . Mostly straight holes q. You can find trouble with a bad swing. Definitely play this again. Thanks
Jemsek course
Course was in excellent condition. Arrived a little early but was able to get out with little delay. Staff was very friendly and let me tee off as they had an open time. This is one of the best courses to play in Illinois. The holes are fair but can be demanding. If you hit your tee shot well, you will shoot a good score. I was fortunate to score under par so it was a good day for me,
great staff ---makes you feel at home
We enjoy playing both courses at St. Andrews. A special shoutout to Carol who assisted with our T times---Thakns Carol. All the staff make you feel as if its your home course. Always friendly and helpful. See you next week
