St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Where My 2nd Shot Landed Photo submitted by DavePipitone on 07/25/2017
Two great courses with lots of amenities and a great bar with food
It’s been sometime since I’ve played at Saint Andrews since I moved farther away. All the great memories come back once I get there. Both courses are superb, had a great time. Courses were in great shape for this early in the season. Can’t wait to go back.
Way behind on mowing
Overall, a nice place to play. You can almost always get a tee time here on the weekend. Two courses, both pretty nice, with better than average greens. Top notch practice facility. This time, I played #2. They were clearly behind on mowing though. The grass was overgrown, and they were frantically moving everywhere right on top of us, leaving huge clumps of grass and one time even going over my ball which was greenside on a par three. A little frustrating, but for all the reasons I stated above, I’ll certainly play here again. And Dave, the bartender at the 19th hole is legendary.
First time
Loved the layout...some long par 3's...some tuff approach shots...large greens... definitely recommend
Spring golf
It's been a cold Spring up to this point. The grass, for the most part is still brown from the Winter. Bunkers were in good shape. Tees and greens for the most part were good. The course was dry and the grass in the rough has not grown yet. Considering the cold weather, the course was in good shape.
Always a Good Experience
Professional staff. Never disappointed because everything always lives up to expectations. Dave Eickson at the range and Ed Wheaton the startler due an excellent job. The GM Bill is very hands on managing the staff.
Excellent Park-Like setting
St Andrews is a very nice track, generous fairways, flat manicured tee boxes and large greens. The course appears to get a lot of traffic evidenced by the 2 hole placements on the greens. The greens accept the ball well roll with good speed, a bit bumpy due to foot traffic however. The course was in great shape for a late fall round in Chicago.
Thank you for the excellent rating! We only have 2 cups in the off season. We do this because it is better for green health at that time of the year.
had fun but was wet reality last round of year
Had fun got out on a cloudy misty day trying to get in last round of year knowing lousy cold is coming in for the winter as days are getting shorter as well. Went out and played a quick round on a almost empty course. It was pretty wet and some shots were impacted by squishy conditions. However it was fun on a high 40's day with no real wind. So it was what it was, course was reasonable cart path only and you get what you expect.
Clear the Leaves
The fairways were clear of leaves but if you went in the rough you had trouble finding your ball
Poor weather, but good course
I was booked to play the #2 course, but there was an outing going on and they said I could play the #1 course if I didn't want to worry about catching anyone, so I did...nice of the staff to look out for me. The course was not too tough, had some distance, and the par 3's were long (213 was the longest from the whites). All in all, a good course layout, well taken care of, and nothing too tricky. A good staple course. Great value at $32 for 18 holes from GolfNow.
Good value
Nice course. Greens are just ok. A little inconsistent in speed and they are bumpy. Nice challenge though. Will go again if price is right.
Hi Gristle. Thank you for your feedback. Because of the record breaking rainfall in the month of May, the rough mowing, etc. was hard to keep up with. The owners added overtime maintenance hours so that we could correct this problem. Your next round will be back to normal.
