St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Where My 2nd Shot Landed Photo submitted by DavePipitone on 07/25/2017
Rough was deep
Course was in pretty good shape. Most greens were good, traps were soft and playable. The rough must have been over six inches. If your ball found the rough it was very hard to find it, which slowed play. Otherwise play moved smoothly. No GPS and yardage markers were not too good. Bring your phone with an App.
My favorite course
I have played about 20 courses in the suburbs of Chicago and the Jemsek course is my favorite. It is great for right handed players.
A gem!
Seems like they care a lot about the tee boxes, fairways and greens here, they were beautiful.
Play course 1.
Course 1 good for beginner or intermediate golfer like me. Open fairway with interesting dog leg path and challenge midway bunker; wide green but somewhat challenge spread control slopes.
True golf
Some things never change, and the Lakewood course #2 back 9 is still one of the best in all of Illinois. When you get to this course you can feel the history and the energy of a great old golf club...which is still owned and operated by one of the best families in golf. Greens are nice and fast too, when they roll em. Also, one of the best range and practice facilities in the country.
wide open course
St. Andrews has 2 courses from which to choose. Played the Lakeside course. It was in very good condition considering the bad winter we had. Greens were in excellent shape.
Decent for the time of year.
Course was completely open for our group which was awesome for pace of play. I assume that was based on the time of year. No water on course which was terrible and the cart girl made one appearance which was on the 6th hole and was never seen again. All and all was a good experience with higher expectations for coming months.
course is great
some leaves, and ball washers missing, but overall very playable.
Course in great shape for this time of year
Course in great shape. Nice covered carts a big plus for this time of year. Some leaves, but playable.
Good view
Last Sunday, I and friends have a round in colorful trees, very beautiful! Nice!
Nice course, great value
Enjoyed playing this course for the first time. I would definitely play it again.
Good greens and well maintained
Great day for golf. Got behind a slow threesome but that's not the courses fault. Course was relatively open with just enough framing to keep your attention.
Good course. Enjoyed course.
Enjoyed course. Sand traps wet. Course soft. Staff friendly. Beer in 19th hole cold.
Grip it & Rip it!
1st time here & boy was it a lot of fun. We played the Joe course from the tips & was it a tale of 2-9's. The front 9 was noticably shorter w/only 1-par 5, while the back 9 had 3-par 5's. Very open, very forgiving for the folks that move their balls around into other fairways :-) Greens were in pretty good shape. Everyone was friendly & moved along a at a great pace. If you're looking for something to have fun on & not loose a lot of balls this place is for you! We enjoyed it.
Fun
First time I played this course. The pace of play was fast, played 18 with a cart in about 3:45. The fairway are pretty wide, trees line the both sides of the fairways. Course was in great shape.
Course #2 is perfect for the average golfer
The course has enough sand, water and trees to provide challenges on every hole, but not make it too over bearing. The par 3s are longer than most and allow you to uses longer irons or hybrids instead of the typical short irons. Overall I would recommend this course to everyone.
Great Value
Our threesome went out yesterday. The staff was kind, the course was a little busy but not bad at all. As two of my group are just picking up the sport letting a couple of group play through added to our time for the total round(still finished in 4.5), everyone was still very nice. It was a pleasant experience and will be back again. The course was in pretty good shape. I would give the course and staff high marks and recommend you give them a shot.
17 and 18 are tough
Course is moderate over, 17 and 18 are pretty tough. One of my pet peeves is a course that has leaves all over it, especially when it's not even fall yet. Other than that, it was a great course
Decent Course...on a HotDeal
Well Maintained. Played the Jensek course. Holes aren't very long. Good for all golfers. Had a HotTee time which made everything even better. Overall a decent course.
Slow play, slow play, lots of mowers!!
The course played extremely slow for a wednesday mid-day and we were in front of an outing. We had no clear guidance of where to drp our bags and the staff seemed distracted and frazzeled by the pending outing. The group behind us hit into us twice trying to move us along as we were stacked three deep at the tee boxes. I think the course was ok, GPS was really outdated and they must prosper with the outing trade? Everytime i've played St. Andrews the place is overrun with outing activity. The most annoying thing about the round was a lawnmower in every single fairway on the front nine and they could care less that golfers were waiting or even playing near by! overall not a great experience.
