St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Where My 2nd Shot Landed Photo submitted by DavePipitone on 07/25/2017
Beautiful course
This golf course is in great condition fairways, greens great value for you money
Great experience
Good course, great facilities. Value for money! Certainly recommend to all.
Course #2
Course #2 is not as interesting as #1. This layout is pretty much straight ahead on all holes; no doglegs. The final three holes offer plenty of challenge for the typical "white tees" golfer. (435 yrd par 4, followed by a long Par 5 with the 3rd shot over water, followed by another hole with water on the second shot.) All of the par 3's are fairly long with lots of sand. (175 - 190). The course was in very good condition (considering the tough winter). My only complaint is that the rough was too long, so we wasted too much time hunting for balls that weren't that far off the fairway.
Good overall course
Greens in great condition. Only wish there was more water throughout the course.
Not worth the price
I booked through GolfNow and, based on the ratings, I was expecting to play a great course. The rough was horrible as our 4some lost more than 10 balls that were barely off the fairways. The 3 other gentlemen definitely made the round enjoyable, but I wouldn't return. I have paid less for much better courses.
st andrews joe jemsik
First class treatment from very friendly staff pace of play finished 18 in less than 4 hrs course in very nice shape only a little winter kill on a few greens
Course in great condition
Love playing the Andrews track....some challenging holes and very fair. Fairways and greens were in great shape when I played. Finished the round in 2 1/2 hours! Carts have newly installed GPS devices.
Rough was deep
Course was in pretty good shape. Most greens were good, traps were soft and playable. The rough must have been over six inches. If your ball found the rough it was very hard to find it, which slowed play. Otherwise play moved smoothly. No GPS and yardage markers were not too good. Bring your phone with an App.
My favorite course
I have played about 20 courses in the suburbs of Chicago and the Jemsek course is my favorite. It is great for right handed players.
A gem!
Seems like they care a lot about the tee boxes, fairways and greens here, they were beautiful.
Play course 1.
Course 1 good for beginner or intermediate golfer like me. Open fairway with interesting dog leg path and challenge midway bunker; wide green but somewhat challenge spread control slopes.
True golf
Some things never change, and the Lakewood course #2 back 9 is still one of the best in all of Illinois. When you get to this course you can feel the history and the energy of a great old golf club...which is still owned and operated by one of the best families in golf. Greens are nice and fast too, when they roll em. Also, one of the best range and practice facilities in the country.
wide open course
St. Andrews has 2 courses from which to choose. Played the Lakeside course. It was in very good condition considering the bad winter we had. Greens were in excellent shape.
Decent for the time of year.
Course was completely open for our group which was awesome for pace of play. I assume that was based on the time of year. No water on course which was terrible and the cart girl made one appearance which was on the 6th hole and was never seen again. All and all was a good experience with higher expectations for coming months.
course is great
some leaves, and ball washers missing, but overall very playable.
Course in great shape for this time of year
Course in great shape. Nice covered carts a big plus for this time of year. Some leaves, but playable.
Good view
Last Sunday, I and friends have a round in colorful trees, very beautiful! Nice!
Nice course, great value
Enjoyed playing this course for the first time. I would definitely play it again.
Good greens and well maintained
Great day for golf. Got behind a slow threesome but that's not the courses fault. Course was relatively open with just enough framing to keep your attention.
Good course. Enjoyed course.
Enjoyed course. Sand traps wet. Course soft. Staff friendly. Beer in 19th hole cold.
