Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

It much respect for players once they were paid. Was jSt a terrible. Experience . I was with my son from out of state and him And his
Friend could not understand why we were not allowed to finish our round ( were told to get off course in 16 th hole) while it was still light outside. Won’t go there again. Were adults and we know when to go in! I believe I should be due a refund. Is to to much to ask to get what you pay for?

Average course
Bunkers need work. Fairways grass pretty high. Pace of play quite slow; never saw a ranger. Check in person was less than cordial (bad day maybe). Lay out was challenging and interesting.

Beware of the cancelation policy
Tee times are available only on line and pre-paid. Fine print says 24 hr cancelation policy. On a gray drizzly morning 3 of our foursome were there. Our 4th opted out. We're basically the only golfers there. Friendly enough guy at check-in replies to my question about a credit or refund for the fourth spot. He says 24 hr cancelation. No refunds. No credits. But there are NO golfers. It's not like they could have sold the spot to someone else. I protest. He says "you want to talk to the boss?" I sure do. He calls him. Boss doesn't want to talk to me. Eventually says he'll comp us two cart fees; $34. The greens fee is $60. So I'm out $26. So on a cool, wet morning with NO golfers they elected to keep the pre-paid fee. If we blew off a sunny Sunday morning without a call I could see it but there's NO golfers. We played a quick round - no body in front or behind us the whole time, but we won't be back here or any of the other courses (Cog Hill & Pine Meadow). Didn't have lunch & a few beers like we usually do. I never even heard of a course charging a no show, especially on a rainy day. I figure our group spends a couple three grand a season at their courses. Maybe somebody will read this and have a talk with the boss about his costing the company a few thou - maybe more if enough people read this and decide to spend their money at a course where they're appreciated.

Overpriced
Nice course, have played here frequently on Sundays for several years. Price is now too high for this level and still requires "pay in advance". 15%+ increase in 2020 ... understandable during Covid but now in a price point with way better courses.

Family Unfriendly! !
$$40 pp after 6pm?? The good old days of family friendly golf are over at St. andrews. I used to be able to take my wife and 2 kids out at twilight, not to bother any serious golfers with our group. $20 max pp we golfed til dark and spent another $100 bucks in the clubhouse talking about our day. Now a conversation with the pro shop is billable!!!!! NEVER AGAIN will we play here when they gouge you for 160 just to tee off, after 6pm!!! Joe, your generous days of yesteryear , chatting at the old Cog Hill bar and asking us how our day was, has died with you, rest in peace! You know not what they do . From today, I spend my money elsewhere.

The course is in excellent condition. I attribute this to the large number of people walking the course. Tee boxes show the activity but divots are well sanded. Greens consistently good.
Pace of play was outstanding. Our foursome (2 walking, 2 riding) finished in 3.5 hours without rushing
There are some large patches of clover in the short rough that will completely hide a mishit ball. (Ask me how I know)
