Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Fun day at a fun course! Great staff and for so early in the season, great course conditions!
St Andrews course @St Andrews Golf Club
Although a brisk 30mph wind, this course was in fine shape. Greens pitted true, sand in great shape. Yes, for March fairways are developing, but hey after the Covid in our lives(12 months & counting). Overall a great value!

Good Overall
For an early day in the season, the course played great! Definitely a bit muddy and the trees aren’t grown yet to fully separate the holes, but for the value, you can’t beat this course!

Too Snowy to Play
I like this course in general, but after the first few holes there was way too much snow/water on the course to play. Most of the holes had snow or water from melting snow on them and most fairways had snow or puddles covering a significant portion of them. There was too much snow - we should have been given a very reduced rate or should have been informed of the amount of snow prior to arriving at the course.

The course was too wet
I called the clubhouse a couple of times if we can use the gas cart, bu no answer. I would like to suggest the course give us more detail of condition of the course, especially, we can only walk.

Wet and Wild
Course was too wet to play - still had much snow on fairways. Price was way too high for the condition of the course. Extremely slow play.

No Longer Considered
We used to play this course about once a month, but then they changed their Golfnow Hot Deals to walking only so we don't even consider playing there. For us seniors, walking doesn't work for us and when you add in the price of a cart, it's too expensive!!!
Old School Conditions and Layout
To be fair the last time I played this course was 4 years ago...but prior to that I had a weekly Sat. A.M. tee time. The course had/has too many overhanging tree limbs that penalize you when you're smack dab in the middle of the fairway. They put in new fairway bunkers on a few holes about 10 yrs ago and you were penalized twice because the overgrown tree limbs prevented you from hitting the shot you needed to from the sand. Also, the greens very "puffy". I don't think they effect rolled them or something...you can't see the line. When I play a modern course like Blackstone or Foxford Hills, I'm a deadly putter cuz those greens roll true. I do use their Practice Facility though...it's the best.
Used to Love this course
Haven't played here since they stopped offering greens fee AND cart on golfnow. For us seniors, it's just too expensive now that they changed their rates.
Wish I could come back someday...
I miss playing St. Andrews!! During the pandemic, and ever since, St. Andrews has chosen not to include the golf cart in the pricing on websites. The fact that they don't, has put the price point me and my friends are willing to pay. Even if they did include the price of the golf carts on the website, I'm assuming the prices won't return to pre-pandemic pricing. I saw at least one other review about pricing and not being aware of carts as a $20 surcharge. Made that mistake on one other course this year and won't do it again. Time to think about including carts not that we have turned the corner on the pandemic. Hope to be back if pricing is reasonable.
Tee time reservations
I like to call in and speak with a staff member to make my reservations and ask a question I may have. I do not like to prepay and maybe have one of my foursome members cancel and I can not do anything about it.
