St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Well maintained, pretty course
St. Andrews is a very nice course in West Chicago.
It was not too long from the white and red tees and just challenging enough for different handicaps.
Staff was friendly and the course was in excellent condition.
Good track
It was early morning and the course was in great shape. Greens were running slower than normal. Causing you to add some tempo to the putt. Pace of play was great considering we played between 2 permanent tee times. Course is straight forward and pin placement was like tournament play. Par 3 12th hole from the blues was 228 with a tree in line with the flag. Forced you to hit a high draw or lay short and chip up.
Best sand and greens all summer
I chipped out of the sand the ball landed 4" from the cup and rolled on 10" more, best sand in a long time anywhere. The course is in great shape overall l know we've had a good amount off rain but you still have to groom and maintain good job
Excellent green to smoot & nice
Thanks to GolfNow a playing well mike same birdies , Love this course.
Enjoyable course and staff
Played course 1 after rain. Starters got us off early. Started play with cart path only, course drained well and was able to drive carts on fairways by the end of the 18 holes. Rangers kept up pace of play. Would definitely play there again.
Solid golf
This course is a good valu for the money. Pace of play was slightly slow. 4:40. Course in good shape. Greens are a little slow but in good shape. Layout is fair and a good test from the back tees.
Good Value
I have not been at St. Andrews for over 20 years. The course is still well maintained and provides a challenge for the average golfer. There is a good mix of sand, water, and trees. I will definitely golf here again.
Good conditions and fast pace
First time I played either course here in season, the conditions were great. Played with my daughter in under 3.5 hours, the pace of play was very good (there were rangers monitoring). Big greens that were in great shape, not too difficult but long enough with plenty of trees. I like this course.
It's Okay
Jemsek ran courses are always managed well. But when one arrives it's not apparent where the pro shop is located and no one was interested in helping, better signage would be great. Greens are very similar to Cog Hill, smooth and fast. Had a couple of slow foursomes, but the ranger stayed on them. Some of the greens are in precarious positions, heard more FORES than I'd like and an invasion of high schoolers increased the danger. Worth a onetime try, but we won't be back, maybe if the staff was friendlier, we would. Bloody mary was excellent and beer prices reasonable. But if not for a golfnow price of $53, $76 is way too much, there are alternatives in the area much more affordable and quite frankly more interesting layouts.
Bad bunkerd
Bunkers in pretty bad shape
Played 18
The course was in great shape and the greens were rolling true.
Solid Course
Course is well laid out and in very good condition; for the amount of play it gets, it's in excellent condition. They do a good job of keeping the pace of play moving. There is not too much trouble, fairways are wide enough, not terribly long, but it's not easy. You can find yourself shooting a higher score if you get terribly out of position and you play from the tips (like I did on this round). The greens are massive, often 40 - 50 yards difference to the front or back, and they are quick enough but certainly not at the high end of stimpmeter ratings. All-in-all it's a great course!
course played well
course was in good shape.played well what more can you say.glenn
Disappointing
Course was packed too tight anyway, they crammed 36 holes into a space that should only had 18 maybe 27.
course also over sold the tee times so the deck was stacked. Some holes they were 3 deep, group on the green, fairway and tee. Made for a long round.
St Andrews
The course wasn't very busy and we played in a few minutes over 4 hours. It could easily have been 20-30 mins quicker with a little rangering. The course was in very good shape and the greens rolled true. They looked great, but like most Jemsek courses, the greens could have run a bit faster, and I don't know what it is but the golfers could take better care of their ball marks (which i never get). Every one should show a ball repair tool or be given one before being allowed on the course.
We played the Jemsek course which had a number of very similar par 4's. The par 3's were challenging and the par 5's provide good birdie opportunities from the white tees. I would come back although i would try the other course first.
Resort Feel Course
St. Andrews course is always a great place to play. The course if somewhat challenging with very well kept course conditions. The course is wide open yet has some challenging holes where precise placement of shots are key. Not much water to contend with as water comes into play on only 3 holes, but sand traps are strategically placed. The par 3's can be challenging. The course is a course that you could shoot one of your best rounds, but don't let it lull you into complacency. All in all a great course and one you will want to play again and again. The 19th hole is a great after round hang out and great food.
St Andrews..better courses available on GolfNow for same price
Don't get me wrong, if you want a course that's nice and EXTREMLY forgiving, this is a good place. Im not s good golfer but I like to push myself. every out of the fairway hit was easy to find and get back in play. you could be two fairways over and have no real issue having a shot at the green.
St A
Great staff. Need tighter marshal to keep pace of play up.
