St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Fantastic conditions
I have played at. Andrews for 20 years now. It was our home course in high school and it improves every year
monday after work
The course is good considering the time of year, We played on a monday after work. We had a 4:30 tee off time and got in 14 holes before it got dark. Not all the signs were up, hole 10 was hard to find on course #1, but not that many people were on the course, so that was cool. the cost was good for 18 with a cart. the distance can make it hard
Nice place!
Both courses at St. Andrews offer a good mix of semi-tough holes, and easier fare. I played the blue tips and liked it. They're open mostly all year long, I played the day after Christmas and then again literally when there were still snowbanks in some of the fairways. Minuses are that this place can get crowded fast, the carts are pretty old and gas-powered, need updating bad. And it's a Pepsi-Only place. Not a lot of bathrooms either on course.
Kind of expensive in the summer tho, this is more of a $50-$55 value course, not $70
Getting Out of Winter
Today was the 2nd day of spring and for the time of the year the course is in great shape.
$12 tee time, no complaints!
Only problem was the 2- 5somes I played through. Imagine this early in the year there's no course Rangers out there to prevent it.
Course was in great shape for March, played in 2.5 hours. Not much to complain about!
Bama
We'll run staff is very professional. Considering it is mid-March course was in good shape.
Great Course - Too Early in Season
Because it was the first time it has been warm enough to play a round of golf the course was not up to usual standards. They were still doing work on a few holes and in some spot the course was soaked. Again, this was the first warm day of the season. For the lack of time they had to prepare for the weekend crowds; the course was pretty well maintained. Good layout and great hole placements.
5 hour round
Great facilities, course was in very good shape. I think our unfamiliarity with the course, first time here, and playing out of carts was the reason for a five hour round. The course is definitely walkable, and we probably could've played quicker walking.
I would like to play here again in better weather ( ie; warmer, less wind). Definitely one to return to.
Chicagoland Gem
This course never disappoints and I've played it for years. I've played both courses and they are fun to play. Staff is always friendly and courteous.
No room
This was my first time at St. Andrews. I enjoyed the course for the most part, however I felt all the holes were placed very close together. At one point there were 4 groups looking for their balls in the same area. From 4 different holes. And I was also surprised to see water on only 2 holes on the St. Andrews course. I enjoyed a new experience, the staff were great, the bar/resteraunt looked incredibly nice. Overall I had a good experience, but have found nicer laid out courses for the same value.
Rough greens.
This course has fantastic practice facilities. The staff was friendly, the over all course conditions are good. The greens were in rough shape. However The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. Pace of play was slow but not too bad. I would definitely recommend playing the course. Also any serious golfer should go and spend some time at the practice facilities. They are great.
allow for more break than you see!
20 degrees warmer would have helped but at least had no more than a slight drizzle for a few holes. Course played longer than usual due to weather and time of year. Greens in good shape, especially for mid-October. Always have to remember to play more break than you think on these very large and usually fast greens. Leaves all over made finding ball a bit of a challenge but did not need leaf rule! Staff across the board are all very nice and make your feel welcome.
Wonderful undulating greens
The course is well maintained. The highlight is putting on the large, undulating greens. Short par 5s turn into challenges when you get to the greens in regulation but still need to 2 putt for par.. Good luck on these greens.
Great value on old school layout
Course was in great condition, greens were good but slower than I would like.. they have a lot of undulating greens and if hte pace of them was quicker, the course would play harder. Overall this course is a great value. Has a great driving range practice facility.
great course
I enjoyed the course- however it would have been nice if they made an announcement that there would be a college tournament going on. Back 9 took 3 + hours
Very good condition
We played on a Sunday in 3 1/2 hours it
was very pleasant.
I expected to see Bagger Vance
I arrived at the golf course a 6 a.m. and complete my round of 18 holes at 8:15. Conditions were magical. Several of the holes still had the early morning mist hovering over the ground and the sunrise was beautiful. The crew and staff on the course are also considerate and friendly. If they you preparing a shot they'll shut down their equipment and wait. This is my favorite golf to play in the area. I highly recommend it.
nice greens/in good shape
tough pin placements and fiarways in great condition
Labor Day play
Knowing the holiday would bring out lots of people, the course played smoothly. Got thru the round in 4hours.
Enough challenges and nice layout
Can't wait to return
