St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

The course is nice so I would like to play again.
I have played this course few times in my career so I know it very well. I would recommend this course to my friends.
Course in great shape and personell really nice.
The course condition was excellent - timing between tee offs was great. I would play this course again.
st.andrews
good value would play again with foresome on weekdays
disapointing
I was on the t-box the same time as the reviewer from 8/2 - It was ALL TRUE.... The starter was beligerent and couldn't care about what happened after getting people off the 1st tee. After he made the comment "then go play somewhere else.." 6 people walked back in and demanded their money back.
The had an outing in the middle of Sat on both courses??? It backed up both courses all day. Not smart. Slow play ruins a good day - St. A needs to figure this out - it's not difficult to pace things along even if the just had a ranger located every 6 holes telling people to pick it up if they are behind pace.
Shame as the courses are decent, without slow play a fun course for the $. I've played a lot out here in the last few years and I don't think I have EVER seen a ranger address pace of play. They are losing my b'ness.
St Andrews Golf Course
The course was in excellent condition. I would definitely recommend anyone playing here.
"If you don't like it, don't golf here"
Showed up for 2:30 t-time to find 4 groups on the tee box at 2:30. Starter said he was going to bump us to 3:00. Several golfers were upset to be bumped and the starter said that "it's Saturday and we have an outing going on and you should expect a slow round". Then he said, "if you don't like it, don't golf here"!!!!
After that comment 6 of the golfers that were bumped (including myself) returned to the Pro Shop for our money back. They did refund our money, less the golfnow online service fee.
One of the St. Andrews employees said that Management only cares about booking Weddings and Outings and could care less about the golfing community.
it is a nice course with affordable greens fees. However, some staff members could use a lesson in decorum and the management could recalibrate their priorities.
Great time for golf
It was a lot of fun golfing there. The other golfers were having has much fun as we were.
Nice Course in West Chicago ,IL
I found this course to be difficult with skinny tree-lined fairways. From the Whites its long at 6600 for a par 71. Greens rolled true and the greens are very large with tons of slope from back to front. Elevated Greens. Only odd aspect from our round was lots of "FORES!" due to skinny fairways bordering other holes tee boxes and greens. Literally had to duck n cover every other hole because of errant shots from groups around us.
Good course - 2 courses
Good course, greens were good, pace was a bit slow, has 2 courses, I think I like the Joe Jemsek course over the St. Andrews course. St. Andrews course seemed congested, meaning some tee boxes were close to greens.
St Andrews Course in top shape
I have not golfed this course in over 30 years but it is in excellent shape. The lack of rain in over a week made things a little harder but, there is enough room off the fairways for the extra roll. Greens, although firm, were in excellent shape. I will be returning this season to shoot the Jemsek course. It looked just as nice.
Excellent course for the money
Course is manicured beautifully. Greens are huge with many undulations making it challenging but fun to read them.
Staff was very friendly. We ate afterwards in the clubhouse and I have to say the food was excellent.
Will definitely return.
Not bad, not great
Played the St. Andrews course for first time. Staff was great and we had a beautiful day. Layout is not too difficult and the course was in very good shape. My only complaint was the speed of the greens, and a few holes were too close, so balls were flying from across fairways.
Stuck behind an outing
A friend of mine and I played on a Wednesday afternoon. We were told when we were checking in that there was a golf outing in front of us, so the pace of play might be a little slow. We weren't too worried, until we got to hole 2 and there were 2 4-somes in front of us. The groups weren't regular golfers, and it showed by their lack of tact on the course. We witnessed one golfer drive his cart onto the green. Not the courses fault at all, but just frustrated us as golfers who respect the course. I would definitely go back to St. Andrews, but will call beforehand to ensure that there aren't any outings occurring when we want to play.
Much better than what I remember from a year ago
The course fairways were I very good shape. I was surprised to see the amount of leaves on the ground in certain areas. The add on GPS worked great and is a nice enhancement to this course.
Great value
Great value, challenging greens, long par 3's, friendly staff, stop by the bar/restaurant after your round for some reasonably priced cocktails and some tast food off the grill. I relly enjoy playing this course!
great value
For The Value, Great course. I Would Definitely Play It Again
Nice Good Priced Course
If you're loooking for a fairly priced nice golf course here it is.
First timer
I've never played golf in Chicago before so I don't know what is regional or due to the "bad winter" like most of the reviews I've seen but seemed like nobody fixes their ball divots on the greens. But thought it was a really nice course otherwise. Played course #1 which had a bunch of holes tucked up against the highway so got noise from that so I would be interested to check out course #2.
