Chevy Chase Country Club
About
Chevy Chase Country Club (formerly known as Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club) in Wheeling is one of Chicagoland's top public golf facilities. Thomas Bendelow designed the golf course in 1925. The classic layout remained largely the same until 2002 when a major renovation updated the course and made it more challenging. The layout now has deep pot bunkers lined with tall native fescue that border the generous, rolling greens and undulating fairways. Though it is more challenging than it was, the golf course still offers a player-friendly round. Four sets of tees also ensure that golfers can play to their skill level. The course finishes with its signature hole, a par 5 that features water both left and right of the landing area off the tee. Three massive bunkers and yet another pond all fiercely guard the green as well.

Interesting
I understand that rates are higher on the weekend but charging $57 for a round for cart path only and not having any ball washers out on the course is slightly frustrating
Average course with friendly staff
We played this course early in the season (4/27/13) after there was a lot of rain in the area, which should definitely be taken into consideration along with my comments below.
- The staff was friendly and organized.
- The practice facilities were sub-par. No driving range to warm up, just 2 run down hitting nets where you get hit and retrieve your own balls.
- The grass was long and couse was pretty wet - cart path only condtions (due to early in season and recent rain).
- No Beverage cart on course.
- No Starter or Course Rangers present.
- Pace of play was really slow, had to wait to hit every shot, 5+ hour round.
- Course layout was pretty cramped. The holes were packed together pretty tightly, and we were ducking from somebody yelling FOUR on every other hole.
Good condition considering the rain
Only real issue is absence of ball washers on course, and with all the rain we've gotten recently, ball was in need of a wash!
great conditions for late march
Of the 2013 golf season thus far, chevy chase gc has the best mantained greens. The ball rolled true and the greens were very receptive.
Most of the driving holes had very wide fairways. A bit of a begginers course, but A LOT of fun to play.
Preeeeteeey, preeeety good
Great course that both myself ( a beginner) and my buddy who shoots in the 80's really enjoyed. Very hi tech golf carts, friendly and attentive staff. The greens were a little mucked up with ball marks, but everything else was perfect to me.
Slow play haven
We played right after an outing that was on the course on a friday afternoon and it took over 5 and a half hours to play. There were no rangers on the course enforcing any of the groups that were literally out on the course just to party. At one point, we pulled up to a tee with 2 groups yet to tee off-it was ridiculous. I hadn't played since the renovations to the course and didn't think it was anything special. For the money, I would much rather go to a different course.
The course has nice countours and excellent sand in the bunkers.
Chevy Chase had nice conditions for winter golf. There was a little goose business on the fairways but not so much so as to interfere with your strokes.
Great Course, Great Staff
You can not beat Chevy for a great round of golf at a good price. The course and greens are always in great shape in even fall. The satff makes you feel like a millon dollars.
This course has good features
Experience 18 holes of championship golf at Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club. The Traditions golf course is good. but too much golfer.
7.5 HOUR PROJECTED ROUND-Who's fault is that?
I only managed to get in 3.5 holes. My Tee time was 2:16, I didn't tee off on hole 2 until 2:45, then it got progressively worse from there. Our projected round would have taken 7.5 hours.
We had to fight tooth and nail to receive a rain check.
Drought conditions impacted course. bunkers need work. Greens inconsistent.
Old style course with narrow and tree lined fairways and small greens. Drought impacted course and bunkers. Want to play again to truly test the course.
The way a course should be!
You pull up, a cart is right there for you! Love the sign they put on the cart with your group name. Staff is in caddy bibs, nice touch! Course is mowed everyday, greens are true and fast. GPS carts! Only thing is, there is no range, but there is a little net hitting area. I play here a few times a month and recommend.
