Chevy Chase Country Club
About
Chevy Chase Country Club (formerly known as Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club) in Wheeling is one of Chicagoland's top public golf facilities. Thomas Bendelow designed the golf course in 1925. The classic layout remained largely the same until 2002 when a major renovation updated the course and made it more challenging. The layout now has deep pot bunkers lined with tall native fescue that border the generous, rolling greens and undulating fairways. Though it is more challenging than it was, the golf course still offers a player-friendly round. Four sets of tees also ensure that golfers can play to their skill level. The course finishes with its signature hole, a par 5 that features water both left and right of the landing area off the tee. Three massive bunkers and yet another pond all fiercely guard the green as well.

Great Course | Great Value
Had been wanting to play this course for awhile as I drive by it every day while going to work. The course had some of the best fairways I've played on all year and everything from the bunkers, to hazards, to water, were all very well kept up and nice. Only thing I was bummed about was that they decided to sand the greens that morning. Other than that, the course was in great shape!
The staff was great! We had about a 2-hour rain delay and we got to just hang out in the very nice club-house and had a nice lunch.
Highly recommend this course to anybody looking for a moderate challenge with great conditions.
Well maintained for Park District Course but not memorable
Well maintained fairways and greens with backdrop to the 18th green and the par 5 number 15 offering the only memorable lasting moments. Also, the course is usually too pricey unless there is a deal on golf now.
Great Track!
I have been playing here for years. The course is always in great shape unless it rains. The course is prone to flooding. I wish the staff would moderate slow play more often. Greens are always is great shape.
Very well maintained
The course is in excellent condition. Staff was very friendly and we had no problem with the booking through Golfnow. It is a little expensive if you pay rack rate
a great course in great shape
We played this course 25 years ago and I wouldn't recognize it now. Chevy Chase is nicely redone and in amazing shape considering the spring rains...simply spectacular!
One of the better publics
Very interesting course, lots of variety and plenty of different shots to hit. Not very long, so you'll have a lot of wedges, and you can play it well here if you place the ball in the rights spots. Again, not a very great pace, send a ranger out once in a while, ok? I'd come back here.
this course is good for beginners
i recommend this course for beginner and intermediate players because pretty large green and wide fairway.
Everything was perfect, staff and course .
The staff were so kind and friendly. The condition of course was perfectly maintained .Everything was wonderful .Everybody (my friends)were happy to play Chevy Chase .We will come again soon.
Good Experience
The course condition was excellent. The fairways were like carpets and the greens ran smooth and moderately fast. A fun experience.
They need more attention for tea bax area
Good golf course
but They shuld put ball wash things even spring time.
Interesting
I understand that rates are higher on the weekend but charging $57 for a round for cart path only and not having any ball washers out on the course is slightly frustrating
Average course with friendly staff
We played this course early in the season (4/27/13) after there was a lot of rain in the area, which should definitely be taken into consideration along with my comments below.
- The staff was friendly and organized.
- The practice facilities were sub-par. No driving range to warm up, just 2 run down hitting nets where you get hit and retrieve your own balls.
- The grass was long and couse was pretty wet - cart path only condtions (due to early in season and recent rain).
- No Beverage cart on course.
- No Starter or Course Rangers present.
- Pace of play was really slow, had to wait to hit every shot, 5+ hour round.
- Course layout was pretty cramped. The holes were packed together pretty tightly, and we were ducking from somebody yelling FOUR on every other hole.
Good condition considering the rain
Only real issue is absence of ball washers on course, and with all the rain we've gotten recently, ball was in need of a wash!
great conditions for late march
Of the 2013 golf season thus far, chevy chase gc has the best mantained greens. The ball rolled true and the greens were very receptive.
Most of the driving holes had very wide fairways. A bit of a begginers course, but A LOT of fun to play.
Preeeeteeey, preeeety good
Great course that both myself ( a beginner) and my buddy who shoots in the 80's really enjoyed. Very hi tech golf carts, friendly and attentive staff. The greens were a little mucked up with ball marks, but everything else was perfect to me.
Slow play haven
We played right after an outing that was on the course on a friday afternoon and it took over 5 and a half hours to play. There were no rangers on the course enforcing any of the groups that were literally out on the course just to party. At one point, we pulled up to a tee with 2 groups yet to tee off-it was ridiculous. I hadn't played since the renovations to the course and didn't think it was anything special. For the money, I would much rather go to a different course.
The course has nice countours and excellent sand in the bunkers.
Chevy Chase had nice conditions for winter golf. There was a little goose business on the fairways but not so much so as to interfere with your strokes.
Great Course, Great Staff
You can not beat Chevy for a great round of golf at a good price. The course and greens are always in great shape in even fall. The satff makes you feel like a millon dollars.
This course has good features
Experience 18 holes of championship golf at Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club. The Traditions golf course is good. but too much golfer.

As others have stated this course is VERY tight with narrow tree lined fairways. Just thought this comment must be about a different golf course.
