Cant wait to play again
For years I have been told how great this course was. Links style courses are usually not my favorite. I was happy to see that this course is much more. We played the last day of June with temps 95+.I broke a sweat just loading my clubs in the cart. Had a nice breakfast sandwich, the attendant was very nice. The course starts out somewhat lame. Three straight par fours in the middle of the fields, back and forth. The fourth hole is a brutal 200+ Par 3 which is a test. The 5th hole is where I started to really like this course. There were rolling hills and trees!. Most of the holes are flat surrounding a hill that has 4 -5 holes integrated in it. The real challenge are the finishing Par 5 holes, 9 and 18. Both very similar and offer everything that makes for great finishing holes. They are manly long (575 yards) winding down the fairway working up to elevated greens with stepped traps and brutal rough. The greens were all very unique and challenging. Well worth the trip to Zion.
Great experience
I have played this course many of times but today it was in great condition and at a very reasonabke price. Cant wait to go back. Loved the greens!
Great Valur - Great Test
I live 56 miles away but make sure I play here 4-5 times a year
Reason - great layout , pace of play is always good ( generally play between 8:30-9:30). Played in 3:10 today , 3 some
Tee boxes , fairways and greens in great condition.
Greens were average speed but rolled true
$35 on Golfnow
Many that live in the south or west suburbs don’t know about Sheppard’s Crook Make time to try it
Excellent course for the money
Although new to the area, this is hands down one of the best courses I have played since being here. Very challenging with the 2-3 tier greens and course lay-out. I would HIGHLY recommend this course to others to try.
Very enjoyable layout
Enjoyed playing this course, it was cart path only the day we played. The day prior the starter informed us they had received 3” of rain so as you can imagine it was quite soggy. I will definitely play it again, really enjoyed the layout and some very challenging greens.
Tough but fair
Shepherd's is one of my favorite courses, not only for me, but some of my friends who live in Lake County. It's difficult, but fair. This past Sunday when I played it was very breezy which added to the challenge. I am and average to good golfer but depending on where they place the pins, a 79 can become a quick 89!
I'll play it a few more times this year, but when it is less windy!!
Always enjoy this track
The staff is friendly and helpful, the layout is fun, and if the wind is up it can be challenging ... especially from the tips. A bit of a drive to get there, but a nice track that will keep you coming back for more.
Fun course, tough greens
Great value for $27. Fun links style course with greens that are quite undulating.
A must play
Treat yourself to a true test of golf where the wind can recreate the situational golf as if you were in Scotland!!
Great Value
This course is one of the best values in Chicagoland. The course has a wide variety of holes and is a good test.
Worth the drive
This is an outstanding course near the Illinois/Wisconsin border. An easy hour dive from Milwaukee, this course is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Wind and undulating greens make this a good, fair test with plenty of space to stretch out the driver. A really nice variety of holes!
The course has great features
The course has great features but not having a range or second chipping area can result in over crowding. Timing when a group leaves the tee box could be done better but all in all this is a great course.
