Shepherd's Crook Golf Course

First off I would like to say I was very impressed with the conditions. So pure and pristine. Played on June 13th 2019 on a very rainy day. Course drained well and flew through my round under 3 hours.

Value was just perfect. 39 bucks with cart in June on a weekday was a breath of fresh air.

Staff was nice and pleasant so no complaints.

2 simple issues I had. 1 the location which obviously is different from everybody. From Downers Grove it takes around 1 hr and 15 minutes of travel time. That is with medium traffic, God forbid there was traffic.

2nd, I felt there were too many similar holes. Not that many memorable holes. So in my opinion if you live in the northern suburbs or happen to be in the area I highly suggest to play this course. For me it’s tough since the travel is just too far for an above average course. If I’m driving that far I wanna play Thunderhawk.

Probably the best golf course hospitality I have ever encountered. We were treated as well or better, than a high end resort. Even though it is over an hour drive, this course will now be one of my, must play more often venues..

Visiting the Chicago area from Michigan this course was recommended by a friend who lives in the northern suburbs and it did not disappoint. Despite the wind blowing 20-25mph all afternoon on this mostly open links layout the course was very fair and even allowed for some scoring opportunities. The course was in excellent condition with the greens rolling true with moderate speed and great conditioning throughout the course. Having played a few other Keith Foster designs I was not disappointed by Shepherds Crook and would tell anyone in the Chicago area to visit if your looking for a great deal.

Really enjoyed the course. Great staff and food at turn. Well worth the trip from Chicago. We will be back.

terrible staff. it is run by the park district of zion . their staff get paid no matter how they treat their customer. i will never go their and play again.

This place staff will do anything to squeeze money out of you. Had a tee time on a day where it rained and there was little to no chance of it being playable. I called 3 TIMES an hour prior to leaving (as I was driving 45 min to play) to check conditions and they said they were fine and the course was open. Proceeded to drive up there and when I arrived told me they had closed the course 30 min ago. Of course, no phone call, no email, no warning that they might be closing. Ridiculously rude customer service. I will not be coming back and suggest that if there are any weather issue so that you don’t as well because they don’t care about their players.

This course came highly recommended based on the architecture, and it lived up to the hype. It is a muni located around a dump on some rolling terrain. The green complexes are fun and interesting. The course routing is an interesting mix that keeps your attention with average to above average holes, but nothing I would characterize as picturesque or bucket list holes. It is just extremely solid all the way around, and exactly what you would want in a muni course to play each day.

I was pleasantly surprised by the golf course design.
