Well worth $20
The University Club is a nice course overall. I was a little put off when the lady at the clubhouse said I would have to turn in the cart and walk after the sun starts to go down, but I just kept it anyway and swung into the darkness. The hot deal I got made the course worth it but I wouldn't spend more than $25 as other courses are nice near that price point in the area.
horrible shape
Like a cow pasture. No discernible yardage markers. Really disappointed.
Not maintained
Course was hard as a rock greens were in rough shape and the course was just rough for being a university course
Easier of the Two
Of the two courses at the University Club of Kentucky the Wildcat COurse is by far the easier of the two. Depsite that fact it is still very challenging. From narrow fairways to out of bounds tee shots are key to this course. Overall great course fun to play.
Fast Greens
Fast greens and some water made the course somewhat challenging-Well worth the $26.50 it cost through the golf now deal I received. Greens and fairways both in real nice condition.
One of Lexington's best
The day started slow with foursomes stacked up. Once we got going pace wasn't too far off 4 hours. Even with #'s 5-7 down for sprigging. Course was awesome. This course is a combination of narrow driving lanes, challenging greens, yet still forgiving enough for higher handicap players. I would HIGHLY recommend playing the U-Club leave yourself plenty of time before and after your round however. It seems to be very popular and could be extremely crowded. The grounds are as well kept up as any in Lexington. Oh yeah GO CATS!
Only has 15 holes open,
They had holes 5 ,6,&7 closed. Charged full price & gave no refund. Would not play again! When you pay for 18 you expect to plat 18 not 15.
Good course
A great, well kept course. I go to UK and haven't ventured out until this past weekend and I will be back soon.
Play it again
Course was in good shape, staff friendly, played in 4 hours! Bring extra golf balls, lots of trouble, but a lot of fun!!!
Well pleased
The staff was excellent, from the pro shop clerk to the restaurant to the drink cart. The course was in great shape and the greens were smooth and relatively soft. While there were some signs of mold or fungus on some of the greens, but it didn't have any effect on the putts. We played 18 holes in 3h:45m, even after having to wait on a few holes.
wish we could have played 18
Thought the course was in very good shape. Some greens could have been better but overall not bad at all. The only issue we had was with the pace of play. Played the front 9 in under 2 hours. The first 3 holes on the back took an hour to play. We ended up having to cut our day short. Dont know if people took a break at 9 and just got back on when others were making the turn which caused the stack up or what but it was brutal. Would play it again but maybe try on a weekday instead.
holding back
I have played the university club many times over the last 10 years and always enjoyed my round. Yesterday was quite the opposite. We were on the second hole and here came carts n carts of golfers just jumping in front of everyone because it was a mens league. My thought was.... SO! I could care less about a mens league. I paid my fees and was not told about any league. If they would have said... hey u guys start on the back that would have been fine. But no word from the staff was unacceptable. But course as usual was in good condition. Oh... for the love of god... answer your phone!
Not what I was hoping for
I've always considered U Club one of the better public golf experiences in the Bluegrass area. However I would have to label my latest visit as subpar. To start with they usually only let non members play the Wildcat course, which I consider the weaker of the two. I've been playing out there since it was Players Club and the pro shop was just a trailer and still think the "Old Course" is the better of the two.
It still would've been fine b/c there are some great holes on the newer layout but the greens were not good, not even close. There was some type of growth or fungus that left brown/ yellow spots all over them and they had a different speed, texture and height to them. This caused your ball to hop and bump a lot so you rarely got a true roll. Poa annua maybe? I'm not sure but it took a few holes to adjust to the slowness of the greens b/c they weren't nearly as fast and pure as they usually are. If you blocked everything else out and just looked at the greens you'd swear you were at Tates Creek. I played Lakeside earlier in the week and the greens there were better if that tells you anything. Maybe the Old Course was better but who's to say since you can't request the course you'd like to play. Other than that pace of play was slow (it was Father's Day so I understand that) hot dogs not very good but chic salad sandwich was excellent. It's still a decent layout and there are some good holes but in this market to charge almost $50 for bad greens and no GPS (yardages on sprinkler heads missing or broken and unreadable on many holes) is not what I consider a good deal. Especially when you can find Houston Oaks (still the gold standard of public course greens in our area IMO), Old Silo and others for $25-$30 on Golfnow and their email clubs. U Club, normally an upper tier course, has unfortunately fallen to 5th or 6th place, mostly b/c of the greens and greens fees. I'll avoid it for awhile unless they let anybody play whichever course they want, assure me the greens are better and I can get it for below $40.
Course in good shape....
But a lot of the cart paths could use some work. Many worn and/or rough spots in path. Very slow play but I'm sure that doesn't always happen. Also, two carts w/ young kids in them driving around on the back nine. Very distracting as they were driving opposite direction of golfers.
Excellent Course
Beautiful golf course, relaxing views & surroundings, challenging holes, quality golf carts, multiple yardage markers. Only 1 negative was conditions of cart paths.
Tip Top Shape
The course was playing in spectacular condition. Suggest a small bucket if balls included in the round. Only saw the beverage cart once on a 85 degree day.
Course is great but offers no tee times on Golfnow
A great course in the heart of the Bluegrass. Easier course of the two 18 holes courses offered at this location
