It gets better with every round
Whether it's Big Blue or Wildcat, a great round of golf always. I've played both courses numerous times and I always find something new or challenging. One of my favorite tracks in the Bluegrass.
Wildcat course
Course was great but bunkers look like they have not been fixed all year. No sand just mud
Good Course
Always a challenging round. The course conditions are always excellent. Pace of play is good most of the time.
Par for the course!
Nice course. Fun layout. Course conditions were good overall. Many greens had small dead spots that looked worse than they played. Green speed was good and the greens that didn't have large trees around them were very good. Bunkers were horrible need drainage and new sand. Tee boxes and fairways were good. I would come back and play again!
Much improved
The Wildcat course is in the best shape it's been in years. The only knock is that the sand in the bunkers needs to be replenished. As the summer has gone on, the course has improved, from the tee boxes to the fairways to the greens. The re-routing of the holes on the back 9 was a brilliant move, finishing on a risk/reward par 5 is a great way to end the round.
Top 3 in the region
In my opinion the Big Blue course is one of the top 3 courses in the area. The layout is fantastic. You are never near a house and the scenery is gorgeous. The course requires smart play from tee to green to get to the pins. The back 9 is challenge for any golfer with the final 4 holes being as tough as any around.
Getting better every day
The Wildcat course has always been considered a step beneath Big Blue and while that may be true, the margin is getting narrower. The re-routing of the holes was brilliant, making the 18th hole a risk/reward par 5 of 530 yards The front 9 used to be maligned, but with several of the holes playing uphill and only one par 5, it's longer than it reads on the scorecard. The fairways were in outstanding shape, as were the tee boxes and the greens were very good. The only criticism is that the bunkers are not in great shape, as it seems all the sand resides in Big Blue's bunkers.
OVERBOOKED
Staff and course are above average. No ranger or starter on course. Course was overbooked. Pace of play was horrendous. 5some, 6somes playing in front of us. Had to wait 20 minutes to make each shot. Walked off course after 8 holes. Course needs set, enforced tee times with starter and rangers on course to enforce pace of play! This place has been much better than that in the past!
Course was in terrible shape.
As a UK alum, I have played this course quite often throughout the years. I was shocked this week to find the wildcat course looking terrible. The greens had been aerated, which is understandable, but we were given no warning or discount. Putting was impossible. The greens also had quite a few repaired spots and completely bare "muddy" spots. A number of fairways were completely brown, with no signs of live grass coming through. The tee boxes were beat up and appeared to have not been moved in weeks.
To summarize, playing at an SEC university course which happens to be my alma mater should have been a relaxing experience. Instead I was ashamed of the state of disrepair I found the course to be in. Reluctant to give it two stars until they get their stuff together.
First time
This was the first time I played the wildcat course and I was disappointed in the condition of the greens and some of the fairways. They just completed rerouting the course so it was a little confusing which way to go since the signage and cart paths were not yet in place. "Big blue" the other course at this property looked to be in much better condition. Had to wait 7 minutes to check in at the pro shop as no one was there. Overall not a bad experience and I will give it another chance over the summer.
Disappointed
Overall, after looking forward to this round for a while, would have to say we were all a little disappointed, including two of us that played there many times. This time of year, maintenance can always be expected, but to have had no warning that all the greens had been punched, wasn't very good. But that alone would have been ok, but many of the greens weren't even putt-able with all the "other stuff" growing through them. Couple of fairways were pretty bad too. Maybe later in the season, this would be worth another round... but for now, there are better courses at a better price
Not what I expected
3rd time playing the Wildcat course and once again the greens were horrible. I expected so much more and after 3 times of being disappointed I will not return.
Great deal!
The course was in great shape! I'm surprised how true the greens were in November! Great layout!
Great variety of play
This course is great because you'll have to play a variety of different tee shots. The course forces you to play a tee shot that sets for the next shot, and if you miss-hit the tee shot it'll be very hard to hit the green...unless you're good with your long irons. I played late in the season and the bunkers were not playable. Other than that I have no complaints.
Rough condution
Course was in rough shape. Bunkers were mostly dirt. Pace of play was over five hours. Nice layout but too difficult for average golfers.
Not what it used to be
Played Wildcat today for the first time in at least two years and to say that I was caught off guard by how bad the conditions were would be an understatement. Almost all rough around greens is completely dead. If you missed a green you were chipping off bare earth. The fairways were in good shape, but most of the tee boxes were riddled with crab grass and just beat up. Most greens were okay, but there were several that were in really rough shape.
The most infuriating part of the round happened on the 10th hole when we had to navigate our way through sprinklers in the fairway. I get it, it hasn't rained here at all over the last month save for one day, but you can't have the fairway sprinklers on a timer on a Sunday afternoon. Our cart, bags, phones, & wallets were narrowly spared (less than 3 feet) when a sprinkler randomly kicked on next to us!
But it got worse. I called the pro shop to let them know that this happened and to ask that they not do this to us again in subsequent holes, and not only did I not get an apology but I was advised that the sprinklers were on a timer and there was nothing he could do, and that simply by playing golf, having a sprinkler pop on during right next to you is simply something that can happen during a round. He tried to explain to me that it hasn't rained (which I knew) and that there should be some reasonable expectation that you might get hit with a sprinkler on the golf course if you're playing. A complete joke. I get that you have to water the course (it looked like they over watered by the greens killing all the rough), but don't put the sprinklers on a timer on a weekend afternoon. Manually go out and kick the sprinklers on and off around the golfers. It's not rocket science.
Needless to say between the poor conditions and almost getting soaked by a sprinkler (and being told that it's something that I should just expect can happen) I will not be returning anytime soon.
Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking to improve course conditions and take your comments very seriously. We will address issue at course and hope you come back in the near future so we can make up for this experience.
Go Wildcat
Outstanding course. Very challenging course. Greens could use some work. Will definitely play it again. Great local course. Found it to challenge my skill set. I play about twice a week.
Thanks for your review! We love having you as a regular and are looking forward to seeing you next time!
